BTW I believe they don't really chew or "eat" in the conventional sense. Maggots consume nutrition by releasing a secretion that contains enzymes. The enzymes break up dead necrotic tissue into a fluid that has various nutrients in it, but living, healthy tissue will not break up. The maggots basically then absorb the fluid. So, they don't "chew" or "eat" you - really they just get the bad stuff. Also the secretions have additional benefits like having antibacterial properties.

It's quite simple. An ancient remedy once again resurfaces after a brief lull and thankfully it has saved already many amputations that "infallible" consultants had already pronounced essential backed up by vascular surgeons, bombastic bedside prognoses and ignorance.
