  • holy sh-t this game looks amazing. too bad it's not in english : (

  • The sprite work in this game is AMAZING 0_0

  • Princess Eclair lives! Long before La Pucelle I see. :D

  • why was'nt this localized internationally? this game looks pretty awesome.

  • I would joygasm if this, Grim Grimoire, Odin Sphere, Muramasa and Dragon Crown came out for my 360.

  • @IAmTheMikko and don't miss Dragon Crown

  • @rack25 Uuum, I didn't, it's the last thing I mentioned there.

  • durch GAME ONE hergekommen ^^

  • @TheSchieri Ich welcher Folge haben die denn was dazu gesagt? Sieht nämlich interessant aus, wie auch Odin Sphere.

  • @rpgEvilshenlong keine Folge ^^ bin durch nen Plauschangriff hier her gekommen :D

  • @TheSchieri ah, ich hab's gefunden, danke. :)

  • grrr This game looks cool. Dumb ass Sega. Not releasing many RPGS on the saturn in the west did not help u did it?

  • someone needs to do a fan translation patch and lets play this game.

  • Reasons why Sega Saturn failed in America:

    1. People thinking "Hey, look at that bunch of ugly low-resolution polygons! FF7 is them best gaem EVAR!!1LOLOLLOL!!1! All these non-interactive overly stilish cutscenes are so awesome, games never looked this good!"

    2. Games like Princess Crown, Nanatsu Kaze no Shima, Assault Suit Leynos 2, Radiant Silvergun, Silhouete Mirage, Scenarios 2 and 3 from Shining Force 3 and Dragon Force 2 NEVER being released in U.S. Sega had the worst management possible.

  • @CervantesXV Obviously the fact the PS1 is infinitely superior to the Saturn in every way except for 2d games had nothing to do with it.

  • @roundtr1p My point is: even being slightly better in 3d (if you played Nights you know the Saturn was perfectly capable of 3d graphics on par with the PS1), my point is: 3d graphics were ugly at the time, even on the N64 (that was "infinitely" better than the Playstation); hell, even on pc. But, for some reason (novelty), people preferred ugly early-3d games than 2d games as beautiful as this Princess Crown. The Saturn failed because people were only looking for its 3d games; (cont.)

  • @roundtr1p Sega itself only marketed the 3d (that's why Princess Crown wasn't even brought to US). IMO, the 2d games from that time STILL look beautiful (try playing a 3d game from 1996 now. It doesn't even compare). Just an example: PS3 is "infinitely" superior to the Nintendo Wii; still, the Wii is much more successfull than it. Why? Because Nintendo knew how to properly market (even exagerating) the motion controls (so much that, now, Sony released the Move controller). (cont.)

  • @roundtr1p PS1 won because it combined 2 novelties from that time: ugly 3d and overly long cutscenes (greater video storage on cd). N64 had much better 3d, but no cutscenes; Saturn had amazing 2d and cutscenes, but very few good-looking 3d games (Panzer Dragoon series, VF2, Burning Rangers, Nights... and not much more). Plus, PS1 was cheaper, easier to program for and... easier to mod and play pirated games (in some countries, e.g. Brazil, that was a deciding factor).

  • @roundtr1p My comparison with the Nintendo Wii is: motion controls are still not really good, but they are a novelty; so, the Wii sells A LOT, even more than the most powerful consoles. At the time, 3d and video cutscenes were a novelty, so the PS1 won - even if you had better looking games both on the N64 (better 3d) and the Saturn (really good looking, even nowadays, 2d).

  • @CervantesXV I still have my Saturn !

But I heard the reasons for the Saturn ultimately losing to Sony was:

    - The processor was very complicated, so it was harder to code for. It was hard to get 3rd party developers to work on the platform.

    - The graphics processor couldn't handle real transparencies whereas the playstation could. Made for 'much' better 3D.

So more games and better looking ones made Sega fold the console.

  • @CervantesXV Silhouete Mirage was released in the U.S.

FF7 is so loved not because of it's "ugly low-resolution polygons!" (as you put it) but b/c of it's deep, captivating story, and engaging and well thought out game play. Final Fantasy VII is a critical and commercial success and has sold 10 Million copies worldwide. For a game that is so terrible (by you're standards) it sure is popular, eventoday.

The Saturn didn't flourish in the U.S. is b/c of SEGA's numerous mistakes, end of story.

  • @neoxalucard

    I'll be honest...

I've tried repeatedly to play FF7 and it is boring to me. Meanwhile, over on my Sega Saturn, I play Legend of Oasis, Dark Savior, and this RPG... and what a surprise. NOT BORING! Final Fantasy is just simply over rated...

  • @MrBlutos It was made by the same people. They made Muramasa, too.

  • they should remake this with hi def sprites like how Disgaea 4's gonna look....AND THEN RELEASE IT IN AMERICA!!

  • If only this was in english *sigh*

  • @1cyxz1 I believe theres an English version on the PSP

  • @1cyxz1 nvm its in jap on PSP too

  • I would have loved to have seen the late and great Working Designs bring this over to the states!

  • this looks like odin sphere or a tales of game

  • I'm sick of seeing "Sega Saturn games that should be on XBLA" and this does not get mentioned. I don't care if it's no where near known as NiGHTS into Dreams, Raident Silvergun or Virtual Fighter 2.

    What's worse...there isn't even a fan translation ¬_¬

Hey Atlus...Please release an enhanced version :D

  • I can appreciate this game a lot more after playing Muramasa on the Wii. It's yet another one of the stellar Sega Saturn games that were never released in the US. That always astounds me. So many great games were just ignored because they were quirky, or they were 2D. Sega would have been far wiser to carve a unique area for themselves as the old-school console. But perhaps 3D polygons were just too flashy to resist at the time.

  • Oh my, this looks AWESOME... I remember hearing about this game but I'm just now seeing footage...MAN!

  • Nevermind, I found some translation. Tried to post here but got an error message so tuff luck

  • nice sprite animations and coll gameplay I wish I could have tried this

  • One of the many great Saturn games that for some reason was never released here in the states. I actually found this game, used, at an EB, during the brief period where they were selling Japanese Saturn games. Bought it immediately.

I finished the main game (having no idea what was going on), but never any of the secondary characters' games.

This music really brings back memories.

  • @charlesajones77: Saturn had some good games, but was overwhelmed by PS1. Maybe we'll see it re-released later?

  • @kryptonitebullet179 yeah, its on psp right now.

  • @Branded1978: Where can I find the translation you speak of? The translation that you use?

  • It's a shame is only in japanese

I tried it out and got stuck cause that

  • There are countless of translations online for this game. You should read one.

  • Thanks, but I'm too lazy for that :)

  • you're right never tought of it.but like kinsa says i'm a bit lazy to.

  • Shame though cus your truly missing out. I'm half way through the game right now and it hasn't been a problem with the translations so far. Hopefully it will stay that way. It truly is an amazing game

  • okay so it's worth a shot and is easier then it looks.okay i misjudged this by it's languiche.how about astal japanese does the jap text hurt that game?,i only can get a jap conpy of that great game.

  • Not sure about jap astal.I have the american vesrion of the game and the text is in english so it doesn't matter. You should get the US Astal

  • i shall but it's not easy to get.leaves a bit of challenge eh.

  • @Branded1978 So do you mind divulging where to get them cuz I haven't found one yet...or did you mean countless as in zero?

  • @kinsaktube when your a dealing with an rpg you don't understand language wise, the best thing to do is to open EVERY door and talk to EVERYBODY- a little tedious but it usually works

  • @sepiropth

I did exactly that, I was lvl. 28 if I recall, but at some point I got tired and gave up

  • Rom and emulator download link anyone?

  • Is there an englisch version?

  • Nope falagarius. Best bet is to buy the spiritual sequel Odin Sphere for the PS2

  • Woah...Are you saying these are the same people that made Odin Sphere ?? I didn't know that...I never played Odein Sphere....I owned Princess Crown but when I got really far and then got stuck, I returned it to the store...Dumb move I know... Then that mean the people who made Princess Crown are the people making Muramasa: The Demon Blade for Wii! I think I will get Muramasa: The Demon Blade !

I think I would rather wait for Mar

  • Yep, the same guys just made Muramasa (they're called VanillaWare now) which is considered to be Princess Crown 3. They made Grim Grimoire also which I started playing it's pretty good.

  • "which is considered to be Princess Crown 3", that made me laugh :D

So i guess that makes Bayonetta, Devil May Cry 5 eh?

Seriously, i too consider OS the spiritual successor to PC, but going as far as calling Muramasa PC3? Shame on you!

But oh well, all VW games have something going on with them, aside from the visual style i mean. So go for it NWii owners, i think you will have a great time playing Muramasa or Princess Crown.

  • THEY NEED TO PORT THIS TO DS!!!

  • theres 1 on the psp ^_^ hope this helped

  • it's been ported to the PSP in Japan if that's close enough.

  • Nah, they need to localize it for the psp first. It's already ported to the psp...

  • Yeah, I have the PSP port of this game. I still need to go play it.

  • I'm looking forward to getting into this game - I want to get my batteries in first though - no good without a save-game! The garphics are amazing; I love the way the Saturn took everything that was cool about the 16 bit consoles and just made it HUUUGE!! Very impressive for a 32 bit machine, shame its in Japanese though - why they never released these games in the US, even a limited, profitable run, I'll never know.

  • I remember seeing screenshots of this game back in my old Gamefan magazine. Man, I still want to play that game. I heard it was ported over to the PSP...in Japan. It's been released twice and the US still doesn't get the chance to play it.

  • this looks wicked

  • you will never find a saturn game at gamestop but on ebay!

  • Has this been translated?

  • LOL! This relates to Odin Sphere. This looks nice!

  • Princess Crown = Princess Crown I

Odin Sphere = Princess Crown II

Muramasa: The Devil Sword = Princess Crown III

the number I - III only stands for the Trilogy of that art style games, Muramasa The Devil Sword will come out 2009 exklusiv for Nintendo Wii in the same, if not far better Style like Odin Sphere

  • I'm going to have to say they could only be spiritual sequels. They are not all Princess Crown games. See also: GrimGrimoire and Soul Nomad & the World Eaters.

  • but Nippon Ichi software made soul nomad, dood.

  • I said "see also" for reasons. Look it up. Odin Sphere is not Princess Crown II. What is wrong here, dood? I speak the truth.

  • i get Odin Sphere one week ago, it's beautiful

  • I have played Odin sphere, and have been a fan of Princess crown way before Odin sphere, but this Vid just brings back memorys of how awsome Princess Crown Really was. I WANT THIS GAME AGAIN SOOO BAD!!!

  • it's frame the same makers of odins sphere^^ you could say that Odins Sphere is a spiritual sequel to princes crown

  • Looks just like a predecessor to the popular PS2 RPG, Odin Sphere. AT least the Japanese were lucky to play such a colorful game on their systems.

  • I dont know why people get so upset about it not being included in odin sphere. the games market is a hard place to survive , especially with monsterpublishers like ea-games etc. its their damn good right to choose the option to maybe publish it later on in europe, when it might get what is needed : Money !

Especially since there had been so many illegaly copied games at ps1 and 2 I really would consider it very carefully who is on the fault of things.... even its a bummer !

  • It was ported to PSP ... IN JAPAN. Odin Sphere sold like hotcakes, bring it's mama over!

  • odin sphere it's better

  • It got a port to the PSP, but you'll have to import it.

  • looks gr8 for 2d 5/5

  • It looks like Odin's Sphere

  • Odin Spere Is The Sequel For It

  • Odin Sphere is the spiritual successor to Princess Crown, which was made by Atlus.

  • Odin Sphere is a spiritual sequel to Princess Crown.

  • Odin Sphere is a sequel of this game

  • Odin Sphere was a spiritual sequel to this game.

  • Odin Sphere's precursor.

  • Or you should say Odin Sphere lookins like this?

  • That's because they are made by the same company idiot.

  • Can you really play saturn import games just using an action replay? because i have no idea how to install a mod chip and i really wanna try this game.

  • Yes, Action Replay Plus lets you play Import games. I don't own many imports yet, but it hasn't failed once on the ones I do own. Plus, it's just good to have all around.

  • My question is, why did they not put this in the hidden/unlockable in odin sphere? I mean We miss good games like this and they bring us the sequel....Thats MESSED UP!

  • @Valis77 Because Sega sucks.

  • @Karakta lol i guess so.

  • @Karakta what!!

  • @Valis77 Odin sphere is NOT a sequel of Princess Crown

  • @Rin8Kin yes is it's call a Companion piece :P thats what i really meant

  • I've had this game for Saturn for many years now but have never been able to play with the Japanese text. If the rumors are true I hope the PSP version leaves the sprites in.

  • Kyos, that's because it's from the same makers of Odin Sphere. I guess they figured keeping the same style and making a new game would be nice for the PS2. Evidentially, they were right. ^_^

  • wow...looks like really old version of PS2's "Odin Sphere"! this game even has the same "item ring" concept!

  • Same developer. They have a new Wii game coming soon too.

  • This took a while for me to find.this is the best gameplay I ever seen on sega saturn.

  • Good news, I heard they ported this for the PSP, I don't know when it's coming to shevels, but when it does, I'm buying it.

  • I just picked it up in Japan for like $25 as it is like a greatest hits type game over there. However, I haven't heard if Atlus is going to bring it to the US. Regardless, their are faqs for the game.

  • wow the animation still beautiful even after almost a decade

  • this game looks so unacceptably good for a Sega Saturn game. I agree, definitely time for some Odin Sphere :D

  • just bought odin sphere about hours into is, its amazing!!!!! GORGEOUS GRAPHICS with brains to boot! all i can say is WOW what a game!!! and i want princess crown now. damnit lol.

  • just bought it!

  • Agree with Lebowsk1 on this one, beautiful!

Check out the forum at segasaturn(dot)co(dot)uk

  • Looks super! I want to play it.

  • this vid got me hyped for odin sphere. cant wait. game is going to be incredible!

  • I just Hope Odin Sphere plays like this...

  • Sure hope so, only looks and sounds way better :D

Havn't played Princess Crown, but the gameplay looks great :)

  • this is how I always wanted videogames to be when I was a kid.

  • What do you mean, you wanted them to look beautiful?

  • Bigger, more detailed sprites. Like, playing Secret of Mana for the SNES, how Princess Crown looks would have been the next step.

    to use another example,

Street Fighter II->Alpha->III is pretty much how I see the evolution of 2D graphics, getting more detailed, smoother.

  • I agree with you, i love these games! Time to get Odin's Sphere!

  • Same I agree I think I will get this as well, I love old school games more then full 360 all around graphics.

  • cool!!

  • Such a beautiful game... :D
