I was first shown this video in church (its a very open minded church unlike alot of them out there.) Her message is simple in this video, start taking care of the planet we live on. The lady Anne Leonard even said in an interview she isn't against "stuff" but she wants everyone to appreciate what they have and not just do mindless spending. I mean think about it, how many people are in crazy debt because of mindless spending? it'll help the environment and your pocket.
I'm starting to wonder if human beings have lost the capability of being intellectually honest. Intellectual honesty knows no political ideology. It's about the truth. And whenever there is truth these days, it's only a portion of the truth. A theory is something that has been tested many times and never proven to be false. We let other people test things, assume it's legit and then take their word for it. Sustainability is important, but I'm not sure if we're capable of destroying the planet.

I heard about this video being shown in schools. Thankfully I haven't seen there yet. I wanted to see just what they were trying to teach. I refuse to watch any more of this garbage! When I first hard about the video, I thought this would be about how our production of physical products has its drawbacks on sustainability of non-renewable resources. Something completely science-related, not government-related. They threw in a political agenda and that raised a red flag for me. You can perfectly send a message without mentioning what's wrong in the government, to avoid mixed reactions.

There is a differences in the type but forests are a renewable resource that with proper management can be enjoyed by our great-great grand children. e.g. of this are northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Maine. This is a very limited one sided view. Metals that are mined, are never lost. We just will have to mine them from old land fills.

I was first shown this video in church (its a very open minded church unlike alot of them out there.) Her message is simple in this video, start taking care of the planet we live on. The lady Anne Leonard even said in an interview she isn't against "stuff" but she wants everyone to appreciate what they have and not just do mindless spending. I'm starting to wonder if human beings have lost the capability of being intellectually honest. Intellectual honesty knows no political ideology. It's about the truth. And whenever there is truth these days, it's only a portion of the truth. A theory is something that has been tested many times and never proven to be false. We let other people test things, assume it's legit and then take their word for it. Sustainability is important, but I'm not sure if we're capable of destroying the planet.

When I first hard about the video, I thought this would be about how our production of physical products has its drawbacks on sustainability of non-renewable resources. Something completely science-related, not government-related. They threw in a political agenda and that raised a red flag for me. Whoa--- wrong numbers, bad math. Just one example. the United States has replaced more forest area in the last 50 years than was cut down in the preceding 100. There is a differences in the type but forests are a renewable resource that with proper management can be enjoyed by our great-great grand children. e.g. of this are northern Minnesota, Wisconsin and Maine. This is a very limited one sided view. Metals that are mined, are never lost. We just will have to mine them from old land fills.

No ---again. Bad numbers. In northern Minnesota we now harvest the Poplar (Aspen) tree. The Poplar can grow to maturity in 10 to 20 years, at a much greater density then conifer (pine) or hardwoods like oak and ash. Poplar is the primary tree used in paper and chip board production. Greater wildlife habitat is maintained because there is a large diversity of plant life in a Poplar forest than a conifer forest. We can maintain large old growth forest but everything has a life cycle.

I've seen all this :'we have to save the planet NOW stuff" when I was 12 and that's almost 30 years now. What has changed? Not that much. I've been a greenpeace member, active member for WWF but I lost all hope on these organizations. Not because I'm older now, but as long as we keep on fighting against the powerful we will loose.

This is hilarious, frankly. The issue is a real one, but it's so hard to take her seriously because it's so funny. "Mining, which is just another word for natural resource exploitation". Which it is, but that just comes across as comedy rather than a clarion call to action.

People who don't care about sustainable consumption of "stuff" should really read up on stories about the destruction of "great" civilisations like Easter island because they were thoughtless in their consumption, "well she uses technology to make the video" some argue, yeah but the technology here isn't being aimlessly used but rather is put to good use to send important valid points to a brainwashed and greedy society

I did goto her site. She cites stuff out of context, and most of her resources come from books that don't subsequently cite anything.

Listen I'm going to say this first that i'm not inside the box and I know about the global agenda. I know the governments not going to help us out. Even if her statistics are not 30 or 40 percent accurate its still enough to wipe out all our resources. Also her idea of our consumer culture in her consumer video is absolutely true. I agree with you too man we all have to look at for ourselves. Yet with the knowledge I know and what I take in from what I see going on everyday thisvideomakessense.

does this hint at taking away free-market economy so the governments can be larger than these huge companies that produce so many jobs for people? Without these huge companies the government would just control prices instead of there being competition/supply/demand/natural price which ultimately control prices. I for one disagree. the system doesnt work and will eventually lead to a worldwide crisis. our rate of consumption is overwhelming. what are we gonna do when we hit the last drop of petroleum?

that being sayed she leaves out alot too. new teck is being made every day to help minimise the stuff we need to take from the earth. all of the projections that people making these types of videos use are based on todays useage.....

Actually, ALL of the planet's original forests are gone. They've been replaced multiple times over the aeons.
Furthermore, the purpose of government is not to take care of us. Government literally has only two legitimate roles: defend the citizens from foreign and internal threats to our sovereignty as a nation and to secure (not grant) the inalienable rights that are guaranteed to us by the Creator.
