  • GREAT WOMAN...TRUE AND BRAVE INDIAN

    I RESPECT HER.

  • She's a woman 1st of all and obviously she talks about peace, etc. But she doesn't realize that some groups take advantage of tolerance.

  • Freedom of speech does give her the right to speak and believe in whatever she believes in , n if m not mistaken we hv these rights coz we live in a democracy. If u blame Indian govt. at dis , then pls. comment on U.S bombing libiya , afganistan n other places.

  • Sagarika Ghosh threw really loaded trap questions, it's amazing how she dodged the bullets and thew them back at her. Sagarika made herself look like a fool by the end as her scripted questions which she thought for sure were designed to win when infact she lost miserably.

  • It's a perfect example how to keep your head cool & keep your argument forward under the severe attack from the nationalists(?).

  • Arundhati's insults without being rude are too cool .. love this interview simply because SG thinks shes being damn smart but AR gives it back without her even realizing !! .. amazing woman

  • SHE IS AN ANTI NATION ELEMENT WHO DONT GIVE A FUCK ABT NON MUSLIMS

  • Well .. I cannot say that I 'hate' Sagarika Ghosh... its impossible for me to hate such a sexy woman. Lovely eyes, sexy voice but her greatest attribute is the manner she wears the sleeveless dresses ... WOW ! JUST HOW MY IMAGINATIONS RUN RIOT HERE ... I CAN BARELY HEAR ARUNDHATI ! I think I can rejoice that I have lived in the age of Sagarika Ghosh or Nidhi Razdan, (whom I hold as the MOST beautiful woman I have seen)... but Sagarika is HOT & YUMMY too ! She makes me feel LUSTY !!

  • We hate you, Sagarika. We love AR!

  • she's the most courageous Indian alive(among men and women). She may b the only one who realizes the existence of something called "the people of india, poorest of the poor" and not boasting everyt ime abt "an imaginary orange" called IndiaIndiaIndia....... Yes she's the Goddess of Small Thing in India........and its not taboo to criticize Gandhi, even Gandhi himself wud hav accepted it.......

  • I HAVE ANOTHER POINT TO MAKE. I DESPISE THAT EVERY INTERVIEW ON NEWS CHANNEL WHICH HAS ANCHOR STUFFED WITH HER/HIS OWN VERSION OF EVENT AND WANT TO LISTEN SAME FROM THE GUEST. THIS INTERVIEW IS ONE OF THEM , FALLING ALMOST IN THE CATEGORY OF FAR MORE POISONOUS SHOW CALLED NEWSHOUR ON TIMES NOW WHERE AOURWIND GOSWAMY NEVER LET HIS GUEST SPEAK.

  • WHAT SHE SAYING IS KNOWN TO POLITICALLY AWARE CITIZENS OF THIS COUNTRY FOR A LONG TIME. I ADORE PEOPLE LIKE MEDHA PATEKAR, DEEP JOSHI, ARVIND KEJRIWAL. KANCHA I., VANDANA SHIVA WHO INSTEAD OF TALKING, DO WORK ON FIELDS, HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN MEDHA ON ANY NEWS INTERVIEW COZ SHE IS SO BUSY IN ACHIEVING HER GOALS WITH POOR. ARUNDHATI, THOUGH HAS VALID POINTS BUT FAR VALID AND BETTER REALISTIC POINTS ARE ALREADY MENTIONED BY FAR COMMITTED PEOPLE IN INDIA.

  • SHE IS RAISING A REAL POINT BUT HER SOLUTION ISNT REAL. I WISH HER TO COME OUT WITH A REALISTIC SOLUTION ON THIS.

  • @armaan923 well i dont think she needs to come up with a solution. the burden does not rest on her. i see her as an observer.

  • In Indian if you have Black Money you will be awarded by Bharat Ratna...like sachin tendulkar, Rajib Ghandhy.. who did not pay the tax for his Foreign car,,,And Kobad Ghandhy, Binayak sden, Arundhuti Roy who speaks for the poor Indians and fight for them gets the charge of sedetion.

    What a great Indian Democracy...

  • @Maxsarkar that is what great Indian Democracy is about. Black money + black buffons in parement rules. black money + suppourt of these buffons = power. simple

  • Its pathetic to see ppl removing & flagging comments which they donot like. My friends, its not necessary to have the same view on something but I do have the right to express my views and ppl have the right to view them & put their support. See!! thats Indian democracy where every move you make is manipulated by a a group of so called monitors.

  • Arundhati loves everyone but everyone hates each other...that is why people criticize her..

  • all those who disagree with this woman and/or abuse her, please think about this:

it's very common and easy to say what is safe and be with the crowd but it takes a lot of courage and substance to stand up against massive dissent , risking one's life for stating what is right. i think arundhati loves everyone but everyone hates each other.

  • I love the part how she interprets the 16-year-old girl holding a gun.

  • @amithbn I feel deeply sad when someone like sagarika ghosh dares to charge her with sedition. Who else is more seditious than Sagarika Ghosh herself. People who knows what role she & her husband played during the riot in gujrat wouldnot even like to see their faces.

  • If Arundhati Roy is sure about her ideology and support, tell Maoist killers to stand in Democratic Elections and make a change in country... They will not do...Because Maoists know People of India hate them. How these extremely poor, hungry Maoists are getting Sophosticated weapons valued Millions of Dollars. These are supplied by certain anti-India forces. Maoists Destroy Schools, bridges, railway, killing innocent civilians and Indian Soldiers And pulling tribal people back to Stone-age.

  • @joyal247 She answers that in another video. Saying that Indian elections cost more than the American elections. Most of the parliamentarians are millionaires. 99% of the Independents lose. These people are living in abject conditions to make use of these warped arrangements in democracy. It is not a verbatim version.

How do you know the worth of the weapons these guys have? How do you know what weapons the Maoists? Where is the evidence for collusion?

  • @joyal247 Dear Joyal, with all due respect, it seems you have failed to understand the depth of maoist problem & you possess a biased view on her speech. My friend...have you ever traveled in any remote poverty stricken areas of maoist infested places?? It seems u have not. how are you so sure that what ever you see in the TV are 100% true and not the tampered truth? have you ever thought that, if these people really do possess sophisticated weapons & million of dollers from

  • anti-India forces, how come they are still dying 10:1 in close combat with the central forces. the ratio should have been atleast 10:7 taking into consideration the skills & knowledge of the armed forces of the country. How do you be sure whether its they who are destroying the schools, bridges, railway, killing innocent civilians and not the political Parties like congress & CPIM so as to make sure that the maoists dont get peoples sympathy which is a major problem in Bengal.

  • Last but not the least...Unlike the so called 'communist party of India' the maoists donot believe in the parliamentary form of democracy. No communist party believes in 'parliamentary form of democracy'. Communism itself doesnot support 'parliamentary form of democracy'. That is a huge problem for America who has long tried to eradicate communism from the face of earth. The congress being a broker of the U.S is in the same process of eradicating Maoism & their supporters from India.

  • You being a free citizen of a so called democratic country do have the right to feel as you wish but before commenting on anything & anyone like Arundhati Roy, pls make sure that you have enough research on the subject & you possess a liberal & impartial view on the same. Pls travel the villages & suburbs of states like Bengal, Orissa, Andhra, Assam & keep your ears & eyes open. Truth shall be yours.

Congratulating you on your participation my friend.

  • you define freedom......

    you define truth.......

i know they hate you with breads in their belly,

i am hungry, and i love you.......

  • Phew...!! This is the most Breathtaking & epic interviews I have watched so far. This lady has made a fan out of me.

Sadly, its going to be very tough to made others understand how true (sadly though) she is. Wish we had a few more Lionesses like her.

Its fun to see some Perverts too are viewing this video. Hope she could make a human out of them.

Keep it up Arundhati 'The Lioness'. The youth stands beside you.

    With Deepest Respects & Love

    Youth of Bengal.

  • @tirthendudey Very well said. Lioness indeed :)

  • @vikasep : I agree with you completely. Being a traveler, I have extensively travelled most parts of India. In my travels, I have stayed with different tribal families being their guest as well as non tribal poor class of the so called civilised society.

I have visited specially Andhra, Chattisgarh, Orissa & of course Bengal being a bengali. Its hard to even imagine to live a single day the life they dwell with. No water, No food, No transport, No electricity. Its hell they live in. * Part I*

  • @vikasep : Government has never even tried to do any sort of infrastructural improvements there in these 60 yrs. Now whatever they have is by their own sweat & blood. Call that a fresh water Well or the agricultural land.

One fine day, somebody from the government shows up and demands them to leave the land for mining without even any sort of proper rehabilitation schemes, r they crazy to abide by!! why should they? They have created their own economy & state but has never bothered * Part II*

  • @vikasep : others who are living a much better life. Being their guests for weeks, I have never felt teased or unwanted. They have always shown proper courtesy & friendliness. What they are very possesive of is their land & their self respect. They would not stand up to any Bullshit & thats what happening. You surround them with guns & grenades, You kill & rape them & expect them to go for a Dandimarch or some crap!!!! You kill 1000, they take out 76.

    Not fair though.

    Think India Think...

  • @visi365 This comment is not spam and should not be repressed by those who simply do not agree with it. Yes I do agree with the comment but that does not mean that I would be ok with comments I did not agree being flagged. I did recently flag a comment in which someone advocated for her assassination however.

  • She is an anti-national. she is funded by Chinese communist regime. She should be put in Tihar jail. I am challenging that women to go china and hold a rally for the oppressed people. Then she will know the value of Democratic Freedom prevailed in India.

  • @jkabc25 ha hah aa haa haa... fuck you illiterate dump.

    go away....

  • She is the finest and brave writer / activist and speaker who comes out every time with truth and proofs , She is the role model not only for women but for so called mens ( mard ) as well ,,, she thinks beyond the border and community and nationalism........

  • @piyara18

She is not concerned of border of the country she lives in. But majority of every countrymen are concerned of their country, family and loved ones. She loves only controversy. Her mother , Mary also started controversy in Kerala. Idiots.

  • @ApplesandCreme

Are you braindead? Her mother championed for women's rights. She cares about the mothers and daughters and sisters of the country. The patriarchy made it controversial.

  • @ApplesandCreme Yes how dare she argue for human rights and non violence. All these controversial women you see. They really need to learn.

  • I respect Arundhati's perpective. She is right in saying that people with a voice hate her because they are under pressure by the politicians.

  • te reporter keeps on talking abt roy to raise voice against te voilence of maosits....bt te r nt romancing voilence.....tey choose tat as a weapon for teir survival....let te indian army first follow non-voilence movement to chase te protesters....thn aft tat tey cn talk abt te voilence in our indian country.....te media nvr cares abt tribals....tey nvr visted te place wer roy went...te jus end up sittin in ac halls and critize a people's movement, wich end up being voilent.

  • bravely defended! she may not have all the answers, but i've learnt alot from arundhati roy's perspective. i'm glad there are courageous people like her that express their views with such honesty and clarity. on the other hand, i didn't quite like the way the journalist provoked her and twisted her words - i guess that's her job.

  • @supriya55 if maosist kill your family then you will surely respect her for her fucking views?

journalist dont provoke her words she herself is twisted and this media attention whore will do anything for attention.

  • Fake democracy USA never had a women president. lol Equal rights. Non sense. Obama is an Idiot who brain washes others with his speeches. Man of mere words like me !!!

  • well...this lady is obsessed with being in spotlight...i bet she is trying for a Nobel ....haha..pathetic.

  • @pishkyam The Nobel (peace) has been sufficiently devalued due to its award to genocidal war strategists like Henry Kissinger, and its misuse to honour who would merely like to get it talking seditious or destabilising things. But still A Roy will have to take her chance joining the queue which already has hundreds of specimens like her writing and saying things merely for limelight and with no genuine conviction in what they say.

  • I have confidence in my common sense and understanding of this self proclaimed intellect Arundhati Roy. By learning more English words from the dictionary , nobody becomes great.

  • What she talks is totally a layman can talk..she talks about structural violence of democracy that is affecting ..SO does what is maoist violence defined as Anti-democratic strucural correcting movement of democracy..SHE IS SUNK IN HER OWN IDEOLOGY THAT IS AVERSIVE TO DEMOCRACY IN ORDER TO JUSTIFY THE STRUCTURAL VIOLENCE WHICH IN TURN SUPPORTS THE KILLINGS OF 76 CRPF PERSONNEL. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHEN MAIOST KILL SOME NEAR ONES OF HER AND ASK IT WAS GAINST THE STRUCTURAL VIOLENCE OF DEMOCRACY.

  • (to Annie...) >> The big question today is, whether we are really on the right path to have merely imbibed mental and physical skills of innumerable descriptions demanded for applying all those technollgies (automotive, computer, nano, electronics, ....) WITHOUT a modicum of undertanding and continuation of our cultural values like ensuring a strong foundation for posterity's future without tampering with it, for our short term pleasures. All Western Christian values exclude ecology & its future.

  • miscegenated (not misgenerated, which was a slip by me). Miscegenation here means, for ex., politicians becoming powerful miners, priests becoming politicians, ... which mean an extremely horrible nexus which will definitely destroy any chance of justice for all.

  • >> Some of us believe that the follow up on achieving freedom from the British masters turned out to be counterproductive. That freedom simply passed on to some huge vested mining, business, trading, and landed interests many of whom also misgenerated with politics to produce a crossbreed to mulct the Indian people and destroy much of India with its human and other resources. The belief is that they must be given no role in elections, but the 'Maoist' solution to kill innocents is no soln.

  • @bmkaruppan 'Solution' is not foreseeable until an Avatar is borne who can stir Indians to look back and take maximum inspiration from the Vedic cultural and human values.Churchill stood against independence to India saying, freedom would degenerate to an antipeople, useless, fake democracy (of the kind you've described). But his political rivals in the Labour Party did not pay heed, feigning chivalry, and granted Indepce.to India after WW II in which Britain enlisted Indian military for combat.

  • @bmkaruppan When saying that 'Maoist' solution to kill innocent people in their revolt against the establishment for justice to the victims of a corrupt establishment, you seem to obliquely suggest that they should Maoists should kill the known criminals with vested interests that you have specified (administrators, politicians, ...). But pls. remember we have a judiciary which is the last resort for justice, after people's representatives, the media, the social activists, consumer courts, etc.

  • @MarjorieBakre Hahha !. Judicary, last resort, people's reps, media, social activism, consumer .... ? Arundhati Roy has already said, and many of us agree with her, that ours is a fake democracy. The people as long as they remain uneducated that democracy is essentially FOR all of themselves, and not just of and by some impostors and selfish rascals among themsleves, and remain unaware of their rights (and duties), this fake IS destined to keep us all in hell on earth.

  • Arundhati Roy talks, in this i/v as indeed usually, like an above average commoner, but it is true she has been amply catapulted into public limelight in India and elsewhere. we wish she were more than just that, more than just a talker or writer, she had been gifted with some powerful thinking power, so that she could have offered not just a two way analysis of our 'fake democracy' but also come up a solution to usher in happiness for all of us.

  • Tash, I agree with a lot of what you are saying but, I'm uncomfortable about your comment about tribal people having no life survival skills. To be blunt, if they were bereft of such skills, they would have died out hundreds of years ago. I would actually go on further and say that they of all people are the best equipped to survive life. They possess an unique understanding of the ecosystems of the forests, have developed sustainable farming methods and know the medicinal qualities of plants

  • @annieobrien83 Arundhati Roy is one of a lot of pseudointellectuals rooted in the conventional wisdom (rooted in ignorance!) which most Western scholars continue to exhibit till date, pseudos to whom India has no history, has had no ordered civilisation or human ethos, etc. That is why she says tribals had no survival skills ! They had them, but did not have access to modern media marketing methods for them, and that only added to their happiness and peace. The big picture question today is,..>>

  • @lsjtifo I'm a bit confused by what you have said ..... I believe that Arundhati Roy doesn't see India as having no history, no ordered civilisation, human ethos etc. I do agree with your view about pseudo intellectuals but in the western world I feel their views represent the far right. I believe their views are rooted in the colonial past when the oppressors represented natives from Ireland, India, Australia etc as being savage, inhumane, and most importantly as being completely incapable of

  • @lsjtifo 2: running their own country.I agree your comment @ western christianity. In Ireland, before colonisation, we were tribal, pagan & all lived under the Breton laws which were far more egalitarian, particularily in terms of women's rights than christianity & colonisation.

  • @lsjtifo India is an interesting place, I believe if offers us a real view for the future in terms of respect for our environment, working in harmony with our ecosytems but it also gives a frightening insight into the awesome power of corporations. India has the solution but it is also striving towards destruction via capitalism.

  • @annieobrien83 India has a great tradition, arguably the best in the world, that gives a very lively kind of respect and love of all ecology which includes both the animal and plant kingdoms besides humans, which is coming under extreme pressure as lands, grabbed by politicians by colluding with land registry department officials for title alterationsand driving away poor agriculturists owning mostly small pieces of land, are used for industrial, housing and commercial purposes.

  • @lsjtifo I agree with your view on India's relationship with ecology but I think you need to look at Bhutan if you want a world leader in this regard as it has a king who decided himself that Bhutan should be a democracy, preserve it's ecology and focus on gross national happiness rather than GNP. Nowhere in the world is there a country like India who is eroding all it moral and ethical virtues at such an alarming and speedy rate in the name of capitalism,it is truly frightening what's happening

  • @lsjtifo I say all this because I truly and deeply love India and its people. I have a huge amount of respect for this country. Some of the greatest intellectual thinkers, philosophers, academics, writers and activists etc come from India but your government, like all governments in the western world is pursuing capitalists policies which only serve the political, professional and corporate elite.

  • well we need to unite and work for our country, India is suffering for so many years and we tend to be blind.Rise and Shine.

  • She has done great disservice to our nation which give us education, food and medical care. Kerala was once a hotbed of naxalism where few bunch of people wanted to fight the order and the authorities. This woman with her idiotic ideas and arrogance try to defend these violent people who don"t want development, like some Muslims in Kashmir. You have to follow the instructions of police officers wherever you live. Grievances should be routed thru appropriate channels.

  • Comment removed

  • @ApplesandCreme What do you expect them to do, nothing but armed resistance which the government conveniently terms as Maoism since the word Mao gets the Sino Indian war of 1962 to memory to create unwarranted psychological fear and is indirectly pushing the resistance forces to seek china's help to overthrow he corrupt government. It is like self-destructive cycle that this government has set in.

  • @ApplesandCreme @ApplesandCreme You are stupid, I am Indian Hindu so you do not come up with other excuses. If you are an Indian you very well know what Kind of service you get at government office is our government for the people or is it for the netas, babus and lalas. If people's lands are being snatched by government forces, their women are being raped by them and they are being tortured.

  • @tash119

Are you living Congo or India, "women are being raped". A nation doesn't become self sufficient overnight or by killing its police officers. She condones the death of police officers who protect us. It is not my point to look at your religion. I am saying in Kashmir, only muslims want to join with neighboring Muslim nation. I mentioned for the reason she supports separatists. She was driven out of Kerala , you know. A person with a balanced mind can never like her ideas.

  • @ApplesandCreme These people are poor not absolutely because these people are foolish it is because these people were never given an honest opportunity to rise out of their situation by the Government. I never want to drive my car over the land of such people who lives were ruined by me I would rather prefer to walk with them than be one more exploiter using the name of development.

  • @ApplesandCreme Do you know, A 2007 report by the state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) found that 77% of Indians, or 836 million people, lived on less than 20 rupees per day (USD 0.50 nominal, USD 2.0 in PPP), with most working in informal labour sector with no job or social security, living in abject poverty.

  • @ApplesandCreme The government needs to first train this villagers and tribals of life skills, impart them education and give them compensation promptly and ensure their smooth transition from agriculture to other modern professions and also oversee there is no bureaucracy and corruption in this process by publishing everything in web and media.

  • @ApplesandCreme Government of India needs to have pubic debates in media.so there is transparency and everyone’s needs are addressed and then decision taken would bear any fruit till then this one way road will definitely escalate to violence and even full scale civil war because the people at the top very well know if their objectives are sincere or to have free ride with corporates.

  • @ApplesandCreme What the government agencies need to do is list all their correspondence, decisions on the web so every person of India can see and understand what is happening really at the ground level and if necessary raise voice to correct it.

  • @ApplesandCreme Try to understand if tribals, villagers with no life surviving skills are asked to surrender their farming lands for road widening projects, Infrastructure projects on the promise of being given a compensation which would all be usurped by our bureaucracy under one pretext or other or just due to the attitude of the babu’s that money is not for me so I will not let it go to others till they give me sufficient commision.

  • @ApplesandCreme You just say that police officers are being killed but you never asked what they do to villagers to receive such kind of treatment. Do you think Indian police force is transparent, sincere let me make it easier for you the answer is bloody well no.

  • @ApplesandCreme I am in a dilemma. Do I need to pity your lack of common sense or Do, I need to question your elitist support. I need to reverse your question do you leave in a utopia or India? You never responded to my question what kind of service do you get at Indian government office? Is our so called democratic government for the people or is it for the Netas, Babus and Lalas?.

  • @tash119

I have confidence in my commonsense and understanding of this self proclaimed intellect Arundhati Roy. By learning more English words from the dictionary , nobody becomes great.

  • @ApplesandCreme Well! Its good to be confident but you never said what do we do about 77% of Indians, or 836 million people, who live on less than 20 rupees per day (USD 0.50 nominal, USD 2.0 in PPP), with most working in informal labor sector with no job or social security, living in abject poverty as per 2007 report by the state-run National Commission for Enterprises in the unorganised Sector (NCEUS).

  • @tash119

Are you still respect this idiotic woman? You are concerned about the well being of Indians. So I believe you should be concerned about the integrity of your country. India can never accept unjust things imposed on it by PAkistan.

  • @ApplesandCreme What the HELL? how dare u cal her 'idiotic woman'? what is "UNJUST THINGS" imposed by Pakistan??????? do you know how much blind you are?? Go to BIHAr Go to UP Go to MP Go to Chathisghar Go to ANY STATE... Pakistan is nothing...u r worried abt pakistan coz u dnt know anything abt india. Pakistan was a matter before 15 years... not now Mr. Blind. What u mean by Integration??? I need a reply... please.. Integration without the MAJORITY?? HOW CAN U TALK ABT a country?
  • @vikasep

People are using democracy to destroy democracy. No country become prosperous so fast. It takes years to improve especially country of more than 1 billion. She is anti national , no doubt.

  • @ApplesandCreme Right. All these liberal disgusting women. Think they can write. No one compares to the intellect AB Vajpayee. His poetry was truly poignant and lyrical.

  • @cappuccinolover17 LOL. You are so hilarious! Rolls on the floor laughing.

  • sagarika Ghoshground - the most fucked up journalist that i have ever seen! With no background of Human Rights, Gandhi or the constitution, leave aside the naxal movement; she has no right to be a journalist! she is completely worthless and does not seserve to be on the national media. Either she should go and be a corporate bitch or go back home and get the knodledge she should have and them come back!, I feel ashamed that you are a bong (me being one), who are known to be intellectuals!!

  • undy999 please clarify why I don't matter?

  • Arundati Roy is a Maoist Activist/ Christian/Maoist...so se talks like one

  • Sagarika is an intellectual prostitute. She has sold her petty mind to the rapacious media. I wish she had her own voice!!

  • Arundhati is great. need more like her

  • Comment removed

  • Maoists being forced into violence? Yes Osama adores Gandhi either

  • I love Arundhati roy with all the respect

  • @mountainlion15 Oh please !

Don't your disgust of the corrupt system blind your judgment of righteous. Tribals and poor being exploited by a corrupt system and the naxal terrorist have nothing in common. These naxal cowards are the first people to kill and torture poor tribals to have their way.

    Arundhati roy is delusional moron.

  • @lekuindia I Respect your sentiments but are people like Arundhati not just practicing their democratic right to express what they feel. Lets not forget that she is not just a coffee table campaigner but one with grassroot social work experience. I think you will agree that its good for the nation and democracy that here is a woman who has the courage to raise issues as precieved by her rather than picking up the gun. Rebels like her R the salt of this earth and root of democracy.

  • @mountainlion15 I agree that is imperative that are as much rational voices and opinion as they can in a democracy that raise voice when there is injustice, but one needs to condemn when terrorist like naxals are called "gandhi with guns" by the dilutional arundhati... by the same logic what is osama? !

Isn't this hypocrisy when she is silent like a doll when naxal kills innocent people but will shout bloody mary when the state enforces the law against the outlawed naxals.

  • The accent of Sagarika is worse, inspite of her education abroad. she definitely must improve at least to neutralize the twist

  • In a land of billion people, there is only one true voice. Arundhati Roy.

  • @wisetraveller Truth is also a perspective....for some she is a terrorist

  • Two like minded whores saying the same thing!!

  • Brilliant woman. Excellent point when she said,"we are paying with our ecology, for other peoples economy". Also her comment, the empty condemnation industry, that is universal these days. India, another great democracy where you can speak out, as long as you don't criticize the corporation or the cult of progress.

Stand strong Arundhati, I here you in the hills of western Massachusetts, and its as beautiful as the red wing black birds at dawn.

  • @neeleyfolk does not matter

  • @neeleyfolk "India, another great democracy where you can speak out, as long as you don't criticize the corporation or the cult of progress."

Yes, that evil cult of progress. Progress is bad. Especially for a third-world nation like India. After all, if India progresses and modernizes, people from the hills of Western Massachusetts can no longer think of it as the mystical land of poor naked fakirs and elephants, that they send aid to every once in a while and feel better about themselves.

  • Not what I meant. The progress in your country, I assume you're a citizen, doesn't seem to be helping most people. Progress all over the world needs to be replaced with sustainability. I find it offensive that my fellow citizens wallow in consumerism while the majority of the world lives in poverty, when we can do with so much less. Not riding an elephant, yeah and I'm not guzzling beer and driving a pick up with a gun rack. Just trying to learn, reach out.

  • CORRECT RATIO PLEASE...THIS IS STRETCHED

  • @docsunsand

She is supporting naxalit movement thats it, ok I agree we are in comfort zone but what abt her is? she is not a poor people she is much more wealthier than us and this is nothing than to gain cheaper popularity.

If they do not have than from how they are purchasing automatic weapons ? they do want development they want to run parallel government, Government trying to make many conversation but they are killing CRPF people and innocent Indian citizens. This war not the struggle.

  • to rise above materialism for the good of the entire humanity is the biggest challenge being faced by us all. Arundhati roy is a medium of expression of that particular conflict, she is right in saying what she feels. She is speaking about the condiotion of the spirit that is . we all have to think about it, very very deeply. Let us be shaken a lil bit by this talk , try not to judge but hink ponder over it. we know our planet is suffering , she is just expressing that pain... love her for it

  • This is called Bullshit !!! Its really very strange that she does not feel anything for the Indian soldiers killed in Dantwada. These Naxalites are not the innocent peopel they are conducting the most sophisticated war against the Indian government. they need to be stopped at any cost, at any way.

They are blasting all the schools and governmental buildings and infrastructures is they need development then they have to protect them.

She must be face serious litigation for her words.

  • @imstripathi she is not for violence tripathiji and she is sad the crpf are dying, poor people are killing themselves for the rich to feel secure... people like u and me and sit in comfort and make these judgements.. lets us feel for mother nature.. let us also think for her

  • As Chomsky once said, dissidents/critics are subjected to hysterical tirades from media and the establishment.

  • beautifully said, lovely wise woman

  • Arundhati bright and straight - every word to the point

We need more of her kind!

  • " How doe the hungry go hunger strike?" " Those who do not have money to boycott?" Great words Arundhati

  • @secularvoice Ya these words are great and she will get some cheap popularity, I have few great words too !!

Suppose they are hungry and do no have money to buy food they how they are purchasing automatic weapons ? which are very costly. they have ties with other militant group, they are not hungry they are militant. I am agree that there is discrimination in that field but war has never been solution . Arundhiti must be jailed for this interview.

  • @imstripathi

" Arundhiti must be jailed for this interview. " So what about you ? Are you talking about the tribals or some body else? Buying arms automatic weapons? Even if they buy it who are you to criticize? 62 years of criminal neglect by 15 elected govts. At last even their very land is going to be snatched, and they are to be killed for 102 MoU's, and they are fighting back for their survival so what is your problem? If you are so worried go and fight back.

  • @secularvoice

What I am saying you are not getting it. I am not in support of any violence and she is supporting it. She did not say even a single word for those CRPF soldiers who dies there. if they want to ralk they need to come but they persistently denying governmental proposal.

No one knows who started it, but its for sure that they can not fight with Indian government even with their support form their brothers like China and Nepal.

I am agree with you that government ignored them.

  • @imstripathi

" She did not say even a single word..." either you should have a hearing problem or you didn't listen to first part ofthe interview where she is stating the sad fact of poor (CRPF) fighting against the very poor (tribals/maoists) being forced by a system in which they live. By the way , several AK-47, two mortars, several INSAS, SLRs wielding CRPF men were on a hunt for tribals and not charity work. Be clear about that.

  • @secularvoice

I told you, you are crossing the normal limits. so stop the debate. I can understand your feelings about them. I have the same feeling but they need to talk first. Watch that video again note the attitude when she told about naxelites and CRPF. it is more than self explanatory.

Please keep in mind do not make any personal comment when you discuss in public domain. Its normal curtsy about each other. I have not made any personal comment abt you and Aundhiti. Please be gentle.

  • @imstripathi Dear Tripathiji,

" support form their brothers like China and Nepal." then what about India, which has bought billions worth arms from USA and Israel and have sought the immediate assistance of US counter insurgency experts (including chidambarams several visits) what about the suggestion by US FBI who openly expressed their willingness to train Indian police to fight maoists (better say tribals)?

  • @secularvoice

Indian soldiers do not need any assistance from other countries. every one has the right to offer help someone. Indian Government buying these arms because be need for everything. These moist raping the tribal girls and women and claimed that they are innocent victims of government policy. When Indian Army will deployed then they will know about the brutality which they have been practicing from long time.

wait and watch, it will be like Panjab.

  • @imstripathi

" Indian soldiers.....assistance .." If they do not need then why do they buy arms from out side? why do they seek the counsel of Mahinda rajapakse fro counter insurgency? Why the dependence on Israel? Think please. " moist raping " very very rarely heard, any way Maoists are not impotent. But they have never made raping as their policy as the CRPF and SAlwa Judum systematically rapes (100's well known cases pending)

  • @secularvoice Salwa Judum hurts the Maoists the most as it hits them where it hurts..CRPF and Salwa Judum Respect their Mothers and sisters...Mother equaes to God...so there is no question of raping these things...these case that you are talking about must have been put up by people of your thinkin....well You dont have any concept of god....I wonder how much do you people respect women......Not surprisingly you alwas kill women and children...We got to learn a few things about rape from you..

  • @imstripathi

" When Indian Army will deployed" Just search google to news to find the most recent CCS decision not to employ Indian army even for abduction or transport of personnel in maoists areas. but still you can romantically wait indefinitely for Indian army being deployed, and dream and write poetry about it. I have no problem. Before telling about Punjab please read what KPS Gill, and even Rammohan have have told about army deployment

  • @imstripathi

The scenario in Punjab and maoist affected areas are totally different. Well settled Punjabi majority in the end didnot prefer terrorism. The same thing happened in Kerala in 1970 when Maoist movement faded away when the state economy greatly improved. Thetraibals areas , on the contrary are vast underdeveloped, criminally neglected, areas where the poeple are fighting for very survival. They cannot be killed like in Punjab.

  • @secularvoice but tribals support the Salwa Judum

  • @imstripathi

Just one more word. Indian govt. fails to understand history. No army/bomb/airforce can crush/defeat the will power of poeple who are fighting (just Vietnam war is an example, or the defeat of NAZI by RED army) as long as Maoist have the people behind them they will win however hard Indian Govt fights. On the corollary, If maoists loose the support of the people they will crumble to pieces.

  • @imstripathi

"Cheap popularity' ? you do not understand. Just have a look at several of her fan sites and see. She is internationally recognized speaker even appreciated by great thinkers like Noam chomsky. A frog living in a well may not understand these (not about you) but will appear as cheap popularity. People debate less but swallow more what the majority vomits out.

  • @secularvoice

She is renowned author, but it does not change the fact, Yes whatever she is doing is not right. She can support Naxalites but she can not oppose Indian Republic. Yes, this is cheap popularity.

Ok Lets stop debate here. because you are crossing the limits of normal conversation. But I want to say one thing , wait wand watch what will happens to these naxalite if they will not leave the path of violence. I am waiting for the day when Indian Army will deployed there.

  • What a rubbish question that Sagarika poses after being desperate frustrated of not being able to counter the arguments by arundhati roy i.e. question of leaving India. Sagarika why can't you think about that option. That may be what elites consider Looting everything, deposit in Swiss bank and live else where. Of course

  • @enshaman: How do you expect somebody to defend their land, their property and above all their rights to live when all you are doing is forcing military force against them. Making this statement doesn't make me support their killing, but that they need to be heard rather declared a terrorist organisation and being destroyed.

  • @jiteshnambiar You need to step back and examine your presumptions. I am making a clear distinction between tribals and Maoists so comments like "all you are doing is forcing military force" are unfair and inaccurate.

The VERY FEW occasions on which a tribal village is on a mine site they should be given just compensation and relocated to a nearby site. Maoist leaders have instigated and exploited the poor for their power games when no huge human rights issue had existed.

  • Oh those poor Maoists, they never instigate fights, especially in China, they are so mistreated, let me shed my tears of a clown right now.

  • India is a country where the highest court of justice can take decades and will still continuing its probe or would take 11 yrs to convict a murderer whose father is in politics. It works for the people in a certain class with certain power and do not exist for some at all. I approve of the fact that neither media or the corporate are the voices of India but people like her and Sainath who reports the voices of mass people and brings shows it to the mass audience. They are voice to these people.

  • @jiteshnambiar The highest court in the land will take years for everyone but the extremely wealthy and politically well connected. Maoists have murdered thousands, most of whom are no more guilty than you are. Being poor does not make you automatically morally superior to the middle class, communist nonsense notwithstanding.

  • Mao was from China not India

  • What breathtaking moral vanity. Arundhati Roy wants to presents herself as the last moral person left in India but shirks any responsibility to be involved in actual solutions. Talk, talk, talk.

She is utterly shameless in making up "facts" to tug at your heartstrings. The poor non-violent Maoists snatched AK-47s from the CRPF!! Really?! The problem, Arundhati, is that the CRPF have never used the AK-47, so this ludicrous scenario couldn't possibly have taken place.

  • @enshaman

Aruna is THE voice of sanity. Ironically, I see the moral vanity in Sagarika, with her phony populist questions and naked hypocrisy. As Aruna puts it , mediation is not something she does best. She is a compelling writer and you can't push her against her will in a free society.

In the incidents at South Bastar and Dantewada, the policer officers and SPOs were carrying AKs too.

I can just hope that Sagarika( and you?) has the humility and the grace to be ashamed of herself.

  • @silentrocker Er it is irrelevant that police officers recently carry AKs. ARs assertion that Maoist weapons are "snatched" from government forces is ludicrous. It is like something a schoolchild would come up with.

There are no "professional" mediators. AR speaks so passionately for their cause, is articulate and well connected. Who better, seriously? Why has she NEVER been involved in anything that leads to a solution.

BTW well done with the insincere "free society" comment.

  • @enshaman

It is relevant because it is very possible for the rebels to snatch AKs from the police. I don't see a reason why such hues and cries against her statement. Having said that, there is also a possibility that they might have procured some as well.

How much effort does it need to understand that she doesn't want to mediate because she doesn't believe she does it best? Its rubbish to insist asking "who is better?". There are many other "hawks" in Delhi claiming they can do better.

  • @silentrocker Every conflict sees battlefield pickups of weapons. The "hues and cries" are because she tried to make it appear as
