You so lucky this not been remove Oh Ross Jr had all the alvin show videos remove from You tube either he did are the folks at Paramount did....we are just i miss the openin credits n closin credits.....
Bitchin cartoon. The original Alvin show was clever. Who owns these now. Legal issues have torn the Rocky Show apart. With different creators claiming ownership of the different segments, characters and music score. Wonder if thats a problem with all these 60s variety show cartoons.
I have never met anyone (in person) that has ever heard of this cartoon! When I was a kid I LOVED this cartoon! Thanks to YouTube I can know share it with my daughter!
This was so interesting to me. I have fond memories of the original Alvin show, and I had wondered long ago after having seen Richard Haydn on The Dick Van Dyke Show whether he had done Crashcup's voice. I had written myself a note about it at the time - ( back before you could find out almost anything on the internet) Now I know that was not the case - but now, after reading this discussion thread, I at least understand why it was not ridiculous for me to have thought so! Thanks so much!!
Definitely. He'd keep inventing newer and bigger weapons, ultimately bringing about the end of the world, so he would then have to invent a new world.
The idea behind every "Crashcup" story was that Clyde, who claimed to have invented practically everything [with the aid of his "magic pencil"], attempted to demonstrate to the viewers his latest "innovation". Here, I believe he invented "the baby" (and how to handle one). Of course, every time he did, he destroyed his credibility by NOT knowing how to handle the situation....Shep Menken based his "Crashcup" voice on Richard Haydn's "Fishman" characterization from old radio.
I don't want to sound blasphemous or nothing, but do you think perhaps Clyde Crashcup is a satirical look at The Almighty?? Clyde may be a satirical version of God? I mean he claims to have created nearly everything and he even creates people, and all of which tend to get out of hand...Could it be??
clyde represents the ego which is clever and all, but gets itself into deep trouble, leonardo is the spirit, the small wee voice of the soul and between the two they create a great cartoon.
And there was Crashcup's assistant Leonardo, who never spoke aloud but was always tugging on Clyde's coat and whispering some sensible suggestion in his ear -- which Clyde, of course, would promptly dismiss or ignore. And the inevitable catchphrase: "Leonardo, I'm not comfortable in here!"
Leonardo nearly spoke once, he was upset over something (forgot what) and started hopping around making this strange whimpering noise like a tiny dog trying to talk.
This was a funny character way back in the day. Too bad that there aren't more of them accessible here.

lol, Clyde Crashcup was always "inventing" things that were already invented. The silent Leonardo had to constantly correct him.
I remember when he invented SOAP, "S-O for SO, and O-A-P for OAP...soap''

LOL Shepard Menken (who was the voice of Prof.Crashcup) also did that Western Airlines bird..y'know.."The ON-N-LY way t' fly!".

Bradley Whitford did a Richard Haydn "Fisherman" voice in Adam Sandler's first big breakout hit, "Billy Madison" (1995) while reciting Shakespeare.

As a child I remember my favorite Clyde episode was the one he created a woman. If it's available anywhere please post it.

Haydn also did "Fishman" on an episode of the Dick Van Dyke series.
Also, in response to an earlier question, no, sorry, this is the only clip I have of Clyde Crashcup.

Leonardo bears a striking resemblance to Poindexter from Felix the Cat. Just a thought.
