This was originally written as a gospel song by Eddie Hazel. The Gospel Origins of the Funk is a short video made by P Theory. They lyrics are different, but you won't miss the tune! I hope you will take a listen. Eddie loved Gospel music and many people don't pick up its influence in his songs.
It is really fucked up that this music that was meant to be unifying and to transcend the barrier of race elicits so many hateful comments on here. I hope all you people who are so easily talking bad to each other are just kids that don't know any better. If you can't get down with this gift of sublime funk in the spirit of brotherhood, you kinda missed the point.
The Osmium LP sounds more like a rock band playing funk occasionally, which made me love it. But anyway who gives a fuck about labels when it comes to good music?
Funkadelic-Parliament is THE very definition of the intoxicating seventies. They were Gods of the Groove, utter and indisputable masters of their own concoction of sound: an infectious, revolutionary funk unprecedented at their time, and still in a gilded league of its own today.
Psychedelia, prog, psychrock, bluesrock, hard rock, soul: musicians that came before led up to them, and musicians that came after derived from them. they are lords of a wordless language known as music
you cannot deny the black influence in music. blues funk jazz it is there whether you deny it or not. it isnt about race it is about ackknowledging the contribution of the people who created the music. no saying that whit folks cant do this type of music b/c they can. i just get tired of people saying it aint about race. duh it's about pride in the contributions that my people have made to music worldwide. so shut with that shit

Ha - who sez rock music wasn't descended directly from The Blues? The best music in America is done by or inspired by African Americans - no brag, just fact -
The real question is why is Funkadelic never mentioned among the greatest american rock bands of all time. No disrespect to Clinton but Eddie Hazel made the first three albums. Is it any wonder that their next great album was Standing on the Edge?
I think they used to rock, like no one else, on their first three albums especially, but this is far from their best album. Wonder why this is their most famous album. Maybe because of the title track? Can't really compare since they are so different, but the first three albums are so perfect in every way. Could it be that they rock TOO MUCH and are therefore not appreciated by the usual funk crowd? Tip of the day: Listen to the first albums on LSD, the way they were meant to be heard!!!
@ThePlatapus If youve been on the planet earth any significant amount of time and are just now finding out that who you call niggers call play good music then you must be living in the woods Billy Bob. Something so simple as musical appreciation is reduced to a racial issue for people like you. I normally wouldnt waste my time responding but it amazes me how many YT sites geared toward Kemetian interests are viewed by tubobs like you. The Funkadelics trained white artists. Stop talking stupid!
I really never to reach out beyond the 90's and 80's, where it seemed many blacks had taken to rap. Not saying there isn't plenty of AWESOME black bands of that time, like Hootie and the Blowfish! Yeah...
But before this I did like Chuck Berry, Public Enemy, Jimi Hendrix and plenty of other negro musicians. But this is probably like the first band I'm really taken to to be known for being black.
@ThePlatapus Hootie has one black guy but i like your way of thinking. Living Colour was great as well, and they recently came out with a new album i think
@ThePlatapus you shouldnt worry about the race of the musicians, music transcends human faults like racism and racial differences...the music is all that matters man.

@Pendor42 I love it, Im 14 and my daily intake for music consists of usually Funk/soul like Funkadelic, Isaac Hayes, and Rap/Hip Hop like Tech N9ne and most underground rap today.
yea i dont get wut happened really black people played some kind of rock music til the early 80s/late 70's. from blues to rock n' roll to R&B to Soul to Funk all guitar oritented rock music. then rap came out and that was it lol. rock suffers from it too because white rock muscians were whiggers until the 80's basicaly. they wanted to talk and dress and sound like the earlier black muscians. now rock music has no soul
Is a crying shame that I've never ever heard of Eddie Hazel up untill 2 days ago. The truth is that I never paid attention to this great band or to Funk music. To me Funk music was just a simple 16 beat measure: tinkatin-tukakatin ect. But what I'm hearing here blows away just about any Rock band that I ever heard and I've heard many. This dude is perhaps the closest thing to Jimi Hendrix yet it took me 41 yeas to hear of him. :(
Some of the things Funkadelic plays sounds alot like what Jimi Hendrix played (atleast to my ears). Who started playing this style of music first, Jimi or Funkadelic?
If you Dislike this, it is a clear indication that you have sold your soul to Garth Brooks. Eddie Hazel was the F$&^IN MAN

Plus you contradicted yourself
"It isn't about race, it is about acknowledging the contribution of the people who created the music."
two sentences later...
"I just get tired of people saying it ain't about race."
then at the beginning...
"You can not deny the black influence in music."
So what in the world are you really getting at, here?

Prince probably played this one a lot. Give Sly props too along with Jimi.

@Pendor42 I love it, Im 14 and my daily intake for music consists of usually Funk/soul like Funkadelic, Isaac Hayes, and Rap/Hip Hop like Tech N9ne and most underground rap today.

@funnystuff1284 The American Sign Language Association. It means "I love you", and has been around long before Ozzie Osborne or George Clinton.

yea i dont get wut happened really black people played some kind of rock music til the early 80s/late 70's. from blues to rock n' roll to R&B to Soul to Funk all guitar oritented rock music. then rap came out and that was it lol. rock suffers from it too because white rock muscians were whiggers until the 80's basicaly. they wanted to talk and dress and sound like the earlier black muscians. now rock music has no soul

Who started playing this style of music first, Jimi or Funkadelic?
boxingin 1 year ago
@boxingin good question. this most of this stuff is fairly recent maybe 80s? the guys are still alive an giggin anyways
Pendor42 1 year ago
@Pendor42 Well, Funkadelic's real heyday was in the '70s. But I gotta admit, they did some real nice stuff in the '80s, too.

@boxingin ok here is the story, everyone in funkadelic loved jimi, so the influence is there.
