This is a classic Disco jam from back in the day. My clubs back then were: Ipanema's/Inferno's/The Funhouse/Roseland/One's/The Lemon Tree/Elephas/Environ's/The Lofts/The Garage/Gotham's West/Bonds48, Casa Borinquen, Epoca, Chezsensual (another words, old school NYC)
Wow...Those opening notes almost want to make me wet my pants! (Tee-Hee!) I remember a couple on American Bandstand used this song in a dance contest! Good memories and a great sound!
I'm confused, why does the label claim this is on 'Love To Love You Baby'? (Unless there's some crazy two-song version of that album I haven't found yet.)
@zazoom84 No.... the name of the album should be "A Love Trilogy." "Love To Love You Baby" had a side-long track.... but that was, obviously, 'Love To Love You Baby.'
@zazoom84 Oh, I see. They DID put out a special album with "Love To Love" on one side, and this on the other. (Besides - on the 'Love Trilogy' album, this was listed as four separate songs - "Try Me", "I Know", "We Can Make It", and "Try Me I Know We Can Make It." Which chunk is which is fairly obvious, at least. :-))
There were enough radio stations back in those days, that Did play disco , especially on Friday and Saturday nights. They knew we were out cruising from disco to disco, out on dates, and also for the ones at home on those nights. Many "mainstream" stations did not play much of it but thank goodness there were other stations that did. I miss those years so much. We had so much fun on those weekend nights at the discos...so happy I Was There.
1 of many facts which are great about Donna, is that she surely has the most beautiful singing voice, her range is above reproach!! The 1st time I saw her was @The Chateau-De-Ville in Framingham, MA in the mid 70's, & she sang Live, no lip-syncing w/live performances in those days, & it was purely sensational, worth every penny & time for all of us there, hands down!! Even today in her late 50's her voice is powerful & beautiful, even after all the demands that were placed on her back then!!
My mother, who grew up as kid in the 70s and adored Donna Summer, showed me this song via "Looking For Mr.Goodbar" with Diane Keaton and I've been in love with it ever since.
Ya got an easy way to make me cry...cryin' over you. Oh was this record ever the bomb. It was of staple of the NY discos in the era before disco got so commercialized as to render it unpalatable to those of us who set it off. Those glorious pre-AIDS days, before that damn disease killed off so many...Well, I can go to my grave with the epitaph "He had FUUUUUN!"
man, so many comments going around these days about the lack of creativity in music. But it's true. I'm constantly going back to search anything from the past thats out there. this is a great record indeed. one of the best exponents of the disco era itself. reason why 70's radio was so biased was because the dudes didnt want long songs taking up air time where commercials and profit can always fit in. corporate radio bullshit. it's gotta always be about money.
can someone meet in the club to hustle no what i mean? can i get an amen.......f>+k this hip hop, rap bull s(#t, teeny bopper s*!t, cant we all just have some classics?????
I have this album. I played it all the time especially on the weekends. Dancing around the house while getting ready to go to the club New York City clubbing. Yeah baby lol. Thanks for posting.
WOWOWOWOW!!!! This was the first 12in I ever bought. I am so greatful for the memories! Thanks for posting this. (Thank you Duane) you know who you are!
i agree guys i wa only a little pest when this was out being born in 1973 but i remember my cousins dancing to songs like this in my old living room growing up in canarsie brooklyn, nyc.man how i wish i could go back to those days the more these times become more and more horrible
I am the eternal disco queen. I have danced to ALL her music back in the '70s' and '80's. You still rock Donna Summers!!!! Thanks for the wonderful memories your music brings to me.
My favorite Donna Summer song! I just saw her in concert last year at the Pomona Fair. She still sounds and looks amazing! I heard her say in an interview she will no longer perform her sexiest song, "Love To Love You" because she's a Christian now. As long as she keeps performing I'm happy!
Back in the Seventies, I was disco sucks- rock forever! Yet I was an in the closet Donna Summer fan. I'm glad I can now openly enjoy her great music as now rock sucks.
This song enbodies the best of the Disco era which was sophisticated and beautiful. sad that the Disco Era became bastardized with saturday night fever and Johnnie Travolta who made disco a bad word because then there was a stampede of fools that came and wore the white suits we never wore ! It became a sad thing mainly beause we had sucha wonderful time Donna and giorgio, we still love to love you!
@elzizzo Absolutely true. Disco was great before all the guido types and suburban kids started infiltrating the discos.. New York, it was the Puerto Ricans,African Americans,West Village gays (before Chelsea Hell) artist, cool Caucasians and just really cool and free spirited people. That's the disco I remember not that Satuday...Fever crap.
@kwacou You nailed it! You and Elzizzo know the deal because you lived it. I did too. NYC 70's and 80's. I hated that whole commercialized Saturday Night fever crap that was a whole marketing ploy to make money from the disco craze. Meanwhile I was dancing at the underground clubs in the village.Blacks, Hispanics, Gays and straight would all come and party together with no problem. Few people know the experience.
This has got to be one of the greatest album sides of all time. Too bad the YouTube format does not allow for the whole thing to be heard in one stretch.
And another thing, Donna Summer is one of those artists whose best material, like "Love Trilogy," never got any play on the vast majority of radio stations.
@PreCodeMovies Yes, and that was very, very sad :(:( that Donna Summer's music didn't have the mainstream airplay that it surely deserved. Back then, they thought it was just a fad, and would go away~Well, as we all know, they were dead wrong!! She made more monies for the record industry in such a short period of time, more than any other artiste in a long time has, especially when records weren't at all that expensive, and were still being purchased at the music stores throughout the country.
This song is not on the pictured LP. This song is on her second LP (1976).

As they say today, this is EPIC!
This was when Disco was sexy - the early years. This was, and still is a classic LP.
I believe this was featured in the film Looking for Mr. Goodbar.
Thank you for this upload.
