  • i agree with what you are talking about. very well put

  • '73 was a re-release

  • ''73? I thougbt this tune wasoriginally made in 1963.

  • go to wikepedia and it will tell you that it was re-done in 1973 and its also on my album as well

  • KINTRELL33: I've tried to tell you a few months ago that this song is NOT from 1973. It's from 1962. It was NOT redone in 1973 and wikepedia does NOT say it was. I happen to be an expert on this band. In fact, I will bet there are few people in the world that know more about these guys than me. I'm not kidding! Please stop telling people this is a re-made version because it isn't. This is the original. It's 1962. THERE WAS NO RE-MAKE!!!!! What is wrong with you?

  • my album says 1973 and i know what i read, so i am sticking to what i read and what i saw on my album so i will not stop telling people what i know. and i'm not kidding. and there was a remake, so what is wrong with you.

  • THIS is the version I like (not the faster tempo one). Same with Hang'em High. ...Many thanks K33!

  • your very welcome querencias :)

  • Great tune! When I was a kid I had a babysitter who had a maroon MG. I used to sit in it and think of this tune, and how cool I was going to be when I grew up.

  • Aaah, good old classics, old music is much better than that new "music" just containing synthesizers etc....

    THX FOR UPLOAD! =)

  • Beeeeautiful! T H I S is the version I knew back when, really liked back then, and truly enjoy still now. Thanks K33! Is there a remastered recording of this version anywhere that you know of? Thx again...

  • I saw him perform this tonight!!! it's an even better song in person!!!!!!

  • It says 1973 on the album because it was reissued in 1973. The song is from 1962. Hell, they had already broken up by 1973, you turkey.

  • [edit] 1973

In 1973, Dunn and Stax session guitarist Bobby Manuel recruited B-3 organ phenom Carson Whitsett to be part of a band that was to back up a promising new Stax artist named Stefan Anderson. Their drummer was not working out, so they brought in Al Jackson. The project, however,

  • did not ultimately yield any results, but the rehearsals were promising, prompting Jackson and Dunn to reform The M.G.'s. This version of the band featured Whitsett in the place of Booker T, so was billed "The MG's" rather than "Booker T. & The M.G.'s".

  • The 1973 album entitled The MG's, with Manuel and Whitsett replacing Cropper and Jones, was not commercially successful, though it was critically well received. Carson Whitsett would go on to back up Bobby "Blue" Bland, Little Milton, and Kathy Mattea

  • and have his songs recorded by the likes of Johnnie Taylor, Solomon Burke, B. B. King, Etta James, Conway Twitty, and Lorrie Morgan. Bobby Manuel would become a staple of the Memphis music scene and later founded HighStacks Records in a tribute to Stax and Hi Records.

  • i can remember my father playing this song on the guitar when i was little

  • my father also played this on a guitar and he was in a band called good company lol

  • I absolutely LOVE this song and it cost me a $200.00 set of speakers back in 89 when I turnd my pioneer stereo all the way up!! It sounded like there was a band in my den,My son thought I had lost my mind Because I was ALWAYS teling HIM turn down the music!. He thought it was a blast till the second playing blew the Speakers.Oh well would do it all over again!!!!! And yes this is the correct tempo.

  • lmao oh wow i wish i was there to party with you when that happen lol, and thank you for the comment

  • you should fix the title change the year to 1962

  • on my album it says 1973 so that is how i am gonna keep it, i am not gonna change the title too 1962 when it says 1973 on my album

  • @KINTRELL33 nvm then. maybe it was a reissue idk

  • Haha I had this one as a ringtone couple of years ago (or a friend(s) had.. can't remember from all the Mary Jane..)

  • lol

  • this song is so awesome im addicticded to it lol

  • i am with you on that, my brother and i are addicted to it too hahaha

  • I like this song!!!!!!11

  • Thank you, Kintrell for posting this song with a slower tempo than the other postings of this song. I play bass along with songs on this website to practice, and playing green onions speeded up was killing my hand. Also, the slower tempo of this song helps me with recognizing if I am staying on beat accurately. Thanks again!

  • your very welcome, i am glad to be able to help somone out that plays bass, i too play bass guitar so i know exactly what you mean :)

  • thats a safe way to put stuff on youtube

  • I know huh lol, its better safe than sorry i always say lol

  • It will still get a copyright pull - even if it's a 50's 78rpm, KINTRELL 33. This is the fifth time Iv'e favourited this original recording. Good luck,my friend. Many many thanks for posting this.

This is the original recording from 1961 published in 1962, possibly re-pressed / or re-released 1973.

  • your welcome snakeskin2u2

  • hey ive got the same record player. got it a target lol.

  • i got mines from circuit city hahaha

  • So glad to see the original version posted, but where did the 1973 date come from? It was originally released in 1962 and was a top ten hit that year. It was a great song to do an early 60s dance called the Stroll to.

  • thank you my love, and i will tell you where the 1973 date came about

  • well the 73 version is much slower than the 62 version

  • yes that is true, but they both sound awesome to me hahaha but hey what can i say, i love ole school music

  • The only other 1962 issue available on you tube has been speed- increased (if you read the info) to avoid copyright pull - this is the correct speed !

  • i am gonna have to check that version out, because i sure didn't know that it was speed increased, thanks for the insight

  • this is the right version..slow

  • "This is the right version, slow"? Yes, this is the original 1962 single, but there is a big difference between studio recording and playing live. The MGs speed it up live for a reason!

  • Beautiful, beautiful music Love. Cheers for posting.

  • your wellcome my love

  • Sandlot FTW

  • I love this song Sandlot FTW
