How could someone say Bogi was greedy for going for her 3rd Olympics? Bogi slays is incredible and deserved to be there. Look what she did at the Europeans prior to the Olympics...she won the silver aa! Bogi slays will forever be one of the best gymnasts of all time. It isn't all about the big skills...her dance and creative movements made her extraordinary!
@isa1285 far from the best she had to be the worst there! She was at her 3rd olympics and she didn't really have any top level skills i mean she had a double twist on floor, she won her medals and everything and has had the olympic experience, i think she could of retired and given a spot to a younger gymnast before they burn out, I mean a younger gymnast who has more top level skills could of brought medals home, she couldn't even come close. I think by her 3rd olympic she was greedy
Perfect form? She missed every single handstand. She was a great gymnast but way past her prime here. Her comeback here reminds me of Miller's in 2000. Gymnastics is a sport for the young.
This wasn't a failed comeback. She was 2nd AA at Europeans in 1996. That seems pretty successful to me.
"Gymnastics is a sport for the young". Bogi was 23 here. Have you ever heard of Oksana Chusovitina? Olympic silver medal at 34. Daiane Dos Santos - Olympic Event Final at 25. Daniele Hypolito - 3rd Olympic Games at 23. Ariella Kaeslin - world silver medal and european title at 23.
@MaebySurelyBarely yeah she had one nice moment in her whole comeback. That was just a blip really. At the Olympics she wasnt even competitive, one final on vault where she finished near the bottom and out of the top 10 in the AA. 95 Worlds way down in everything. 96 Europeans well out of the medals in all the event finals after that AA silver.
Svetlana's (near) fall here was just as devastating to me as watching Kim Zmeskal fall of the balance beam in Barcelona! It was heartbraking to watch! Still, Svetlana continues to examplify (15+ years later) the perfect form and execution that she displayed here, this despite the big break on the hecht.
Same here with me!! I practically cried when Kim fell off in 1992. :( Svetlana had had such a great comeback winning silver in the AA at Euros behind Lilia-she really had a good chance in the AA. In my opinion the free hip hecht catch did not belong in a compulsory routine. Such a transition is incredibly tricky and difficult even for a routine today. The bars are just so wide.

Well she did win the silver medal in the AA at the 1996 European championships, so it wasn't a bad comeback at all.

Man she was so good in her day, amazing how she changed over the years, but still always pretty to watch.

Good thing she ate her Wheaties that morning.

I can't believe she caught that! That is experience! She was still at her best in 1996 too bad she didn't win any medals.

Interestingly, she kept perfect form even on the extra swing! That's one polished performer!
