ok, i think the set is waaay to high for both the 51 and 31, the 51 should be kit while the ball is still travelling up, out of the setters hands. The 31 should be more of a shoot, they're setting more of a 32. For the 51, when the setter receives the ball, the middle should already be beside him, so the ball, and the attacker travel upwards at the same time., and a 32 or 31 only works when used in a combo, otherwise it'll be a 2 on 1, with an easy chance to create a hole betwen blockers for 6
Approaches are late, but practice helps on the timing. They should be taking their approach as soon as the pass starts, and be in the air before or close to when the setter has the ball in his hands so that they can properly execute the ball cause the st should be low to avoid reaching and go for a quick hit :D.Yay for running 1's
LOVE IT! look at the age of these boys... they are not listening to thier coach. Yes, agreed, they are all late. Yes, you need to be in the air slighty before the setter touch's the ball, giving the setter an idea of where you are and yes the setter needs to be a tad bit more off the net. LOL but good learning for basics.
I would have stopped the drill, or had them try it without the ball. Be in the air. It's the setter's responsibility to make sure he gets the set to them. Good thing this is just practice
a lot of the problem is their timing and the sets are pretty close to the net a bit of the time. a few of the hitters are hitting across their body rather than following through straight down. It's a good drill but all they need is timing really. If the setter can stay on the ground rather than jump every time, it will be easier for the hitters who have practiced timing with a grounded setter, to hit the ball, thus resolving in a Kill.
The hitter should be in the air when the ball is in the setters hands. The hitters should take off farther back because they're hitting the ball behind them, thus hitting the ball weaker.
Yea, if you're going to set a 1-ball that high, it's going to get stuffed. The sets need to be lower and the hitter needs to be in the air just before the ball gets there. As for the 32s, you'd never try that in a game unless the other team has been giving you line all game and know that their opposite won't be able to get over and cover it. Just my 2 cents.
Ball is being set too tight to the net. Hitters are jumping almost even with the setter instead of taking off behind the setter and leaping to and reaching forward for the ball. Several are hitting across their bodies because they are too close to the net and jumping past the ball.
ball is being set a tad high however the main problem here is that the hitters are arriving much too late for a quick. i agree with the previous comments...the hitter should be in the air before the ball is set and contact should be made with the ball as it rises rather than as it begins to descend.
you sould be taking your approach after the pass depending on how well of a pass it is. you should be in the air slightly before the setter touches the ball ready to kill it. these guys need to practice on getting in the air before the setter touches the ball.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention. If the setter jump sets, he is shortening his closure-time to the ball. Which will make hitters (who have practiced timing based on the setter being grounded) late by default, unless the hitters are taught to be super early. This is also a function of hitters being younger and not recognizing when the pass will force the setter to jumpset unless the offense is designed to always have the setter in the air (to force blocking commitments in the middle)
Hmmm, perhaps consideration should be given to the fact that it is a teaching video vs a end result performance/highligh video. Perhaps these fellows are young. Also, there is more than one way to set quicks. It depends on the pace of the pass, and the desired pace of the offense. The short setter has a harder time with balls being passed past the net. Nebraska women have three middles that run at different speeds based on execution. Oh, and they are national champs.
lol, i love how everyone is saying that the hitters arnt coming in quick enough, cuz its true o.O
a quick is the normal quick
b quick is the shoot set, this is still too slow
it would be a nice tandem set though

Wow the net is so high.. Nice spikers

The net's 8', it's a typical mens net.
A few hits are okay, two were good, but a few should have been embarrassing.

agree, surpise from quick attack is fading with too high ball. Easy for blockers to react. Like i said... its dead for the hitter

Would you want to hit with your fist or open hand?

I see..
They aren't in the air when the setter is setting them the ball..
They just seem to be doing a normal spike..

shitttttt, some of these guys are amazing hitters!
:) they're prettty sick

the hitter needs to be earlier and the bs need to be flatter. otherwise youre making it to easy for the opposition to block you
volley1200 4 years ago 3
ya the ball should still be on its way up when the hitter hits

They are not listening to the coach!!!
Jump before the set, I saw this probably twice out of all the hits.
nowAYlouAY 4 years ago 2
I learned from my coach that the hitter should already be in the air when the ball touches the setter's hands.
vcflight15 4 years ago 4
i agree- I believe the hitter should be taking off as the ball is taking off the setter's hand. they are running it a tid bit slow
onerichhobo 4 years ago
Looks to me like those quick balls are being set a bit high? i thought it ought to be a bit faster to beat the blocker.
