  • Oh, if I had heard this in 1999. But oh, that I have heard it now.

  • That was amazing. Since I was saved, the church I've been at has made me feel so guilty, so full of self-loathing and so doubtful and uncertain in my faith. I was depressed, miserable, and felt as if God was judging me, along with every christian I know. I still know many christians judge me, but I also know that that is NOT what Jesus taught! I've read his word, his word is love, his love should be preached and we should live in his grace! Jesus is the way and he should be our constant focus!!

  • Every time I watch this I am re-introduced to the Son of Compassion, my Savior, my Healer, my Friend Jesus. Thank you dear Brother Brennan.

  • He changed my life - after it had already been changed...!

  • Brennan Manning's books have meant so much to me - especially The

Ragamuffin Gospel. I believe it was truly life changing for me those

    many years ago.

This sermon on youtube is my first time to hear him speak. Oh, how I

wish I could meet him in person and kiss his lips and thank him . Thank

you Heavenly Father for this man's powerful testimony of your uncondit-

ional love. I pray that you bless Brennan Manning beyond measure.

    Karlynn Sharpe justachatwithkks@aol.com

  • Never heard of Him before great sermon.

  • I have been to church my whole life, but Brennan Manning is solely the person who truly introduced me to Jesus Christ.

  • I find it strange that the most important part of the gospel was missing

  • @nzjunglist

    What part would that be?

  • i love brennan i had the pleasure of meeting him at a church in orlando florida several years ago , just re bought the ragamuffin gospel , what a great read, i love brennan for the simple most important thing is that Jesus loves me as is , and he wants me , and is madly in love with me wow, thank sbrennan for letting me know this , the most important thing is love , in this world of hurt , I stand in awe to know that Jesus loves me

  • God uses Brennan Manning's voice (in print and verbally) to pierce my soul. Thank you for posting it.

  • Beautiful sermon.

  • The Father does not look at sin. He is perfect. Pure. He tells us to be pure or in our case we need to try to be pure meaning not sin. But we sin everyday. And yes even though we have our "problems" He encourages us through Jesus the Christ to do the very best we can to change our sinful ways. The Father is Love but he does not accept sin. It's condemened by us not experiencing His love.

  • @SuperLmer He does not accept sin, but all our sins are covered by Christ! So that when the Father looks at us, he doesn't see sin, his sees Christ and his perfection! That is why we are loved as we are! Salvation is not by works, it is not conditional and it is not uncertain, it is by Christ's grace and grace alone. Sure, being holy and such would be nice and we can try, but it is not what gets us God's approval. Focusing on our failings is not looking towards Christ.

  • @MxMagpie Thank you. This made me understand more about this topic. I truly appreciate your guidance.

  • There are a few web sites that try to discredit brennan manning ,but I think they are just doing it because they are afraid of loosing their position. Brennan , Points people to the great lover JESUS CHRIST. Thats what its all about ! Brennan is the real deal . Jesus took away the sin of the whole world once and for all . Brennan understands the finality of the cross .love this video . Ahh, Jesus He loves us !

  • @selfreliantboy people hate the truth, speak the truth and you will be attacked.

  • @selfreliantboy i agree with you.

  • Jesus did also said to the adultress "sins are forgiven....go and sin no more." Jesus said that the Father does not like sin.

  • @SuperLmer what is your point?

  • Jesus did also said to the adultress "sins are forgiven....go and sin no more."

  • We must recognize we are ungrateful, damaged sinners and the Lord Jesus Christ is always knocking at the door to our hearts, Even till the end of life. I'm so glad that I accepted him as my personal lord and savior. Praise you lord for always being there thank you for all of yourself you gave at the cross. You suffered and gave your body, your pain, humiliation your life, your blood.....who ever rejects such love is not worthy of you Lord.

  • I was raised christian but when i listen to brennan i feel like i've had a skewed view on the true heart of christ.

  • alguem poderia traduzir ??? seria ótimo !!!! obrigada!

  • Fantastic sermon. This is the first time I've heard Brennan Manning. He speaks to my heart. Thank you for posting this. I needed to hear this message.

  • Comment removed

  • Brennan Manning always has been and always will be my very favorite!

  • Brennan Manning doesn't expound scriptures in the way conservative or traditional Christian preachers do, but he truly communicates the compassionate love of God as demonstrated in Jesus

  • is he "catholic" or a "denomination"??

  • To all viewers and commentators:

These sermons and plenaries that we post are meant to spark reflection and CIVIL dialogue. NO hateful comments or replies will be tolerated from any point of view. Thank you and God bless.

  • @techmissioninc i understand what u r saying...but let people react to this video how they will...positive/negative...good or bad.

  • show de bola

  • manning is a cool dude

    great speaker

i enjoy his mind and his viewpoint

    hes a brother in Christ

why seek to discredit him ?

  • I think it is so important to understand that evry human has fault, not everything that manning says can be accounted for truth. It is important to take the truth people a have spoken and use it for yrself. I've taken things from other religns that are wise and used it, this doesnt mean I belve anther relign is truth, just that I have learned smthing from anther human. It is important not to look for a king in man, at the end of the day it doesnt matter what this man belves, only what you belve.

  • I have trouble with Manning because of his strong universalist associations. He mentions in his book SIGNATURE OF JESUS that his FAVORITE book other than the Bible is "On Being a Christian" by Hans Kung. Problem is Kung doesn't believe the Bible or that Jesus Christ is the only way to God. Check it out.

  • @Mrdese33 Then why comment? I'm sure there are fundamentalist videos on YouTube. I'm a Franciscan and I enjoy Hans Kung.

  • inspiring

  • Amen to all your posts, john146only. God bless you for faithfully contending for the faith delivered once and for all to the saints.

  • @Utopiang Utopiang--sinner--do you remember that you are of flesh? That you are human? Have you forgotten that ALL are invited to the kingdom, thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ? Do you deny the Grace of God? Or I suppose the better question is, do you think that because you love Jesus, that your work as a Christian is done? FOOL! I see your words here on this website, and I am appalled at a woman who should know better. Your words are negative, hateful, and false. Sinner, I pray for you.

  • "Diversity" in itself is not a bad word. I think we should understand clearly what is meant by diversity and the way God intended it to be as part of his kingdom. There can only be unity in diversity when we are all one in Christ. Until then, it is hard.

  • You said Manning in encouraging people to meditate within themselves. Can you provide quotes on the mysticsm he is endorsing? I've only had time to read about 5 of your responses here.

  • Just looked up on Mathew Fox because I was pretty alarmed on the last quote you posted. It seems that Mathew Fox is preaching a different gospel that is not of Christ. I could hardly bring myself to understand that Brennan Manning is connected to a man like that. Though we differ on some points, I am sure that Mathew Fox is a false preacher and the fact that Manning aligns himself with him comes as a surprise to me. You may be right about this.

  • John146, all you are doing is just typing someone else's words and taking Manning's words out of context. Please don't tell me that this is your own research. It is clearly evident that your are not spiritually mature for Manning's words. You have completely misunderstood him, without even hearing him out . In doing that you have forgotten that the Bible also warns "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry".

  • You are not passionate, just spouting words in anger because people do not understand you, when you do not have the courtesy to understand others. Manning is addressing the words in his book "Abbas Child" to CHRISTIANS- who have accepted Jesus and who have called him as Lord. As such there is nothing wrong with the quote - "When i find Christ, I find my true self and when I find my true self, I find Christ".

  • After all what is our true self? Why does the Bible tell us to "examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith". It is because when we know who we truly are and that we are sinners- we find Christ. We find a Saviour. There is nothing unchristian about this quite.

  • And Manning is NOT presenting a pantheistic God, he may be quoting others and drawing similarities in thought. But as far as I can see, HIS FOCUS IS AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN JESUS Christ. When he speaks of contemplative prayer, he is not advocating eastern mysticism - He is speaking of the mystery of Christ dwelling is us and us in Him just the Father dwelt in Christ as Christ in the Father. How can you be slow to understand this?

  • I think Manning may be too spiritually minded for you, but that is no reason to label him as a fraud and blasphemer. But remember this the Bible does say "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man." I will not judge Manning's faith or commitment to Christ.

  • They called a Christ a false teacher when in fact he was speaking the truth. The more people like you accuse, and throw false and evil words against Manning, the more I believe- that He is speaking the truth. And the more I am convinced that I should not look to you for answers.

  • You are going too far with your words. You do not know what Christ means to me. But this is why, you and I will never see eye to eye. I know my God and because I know Him, I know who are His. The bible tells me that I do not require a teacher , for the Holy Spirit will teach me all things. But I leave the Lord to judge you and me . We are done.

  • sO NOW YOU EXPECT ME TO ACCEPT YOUR TRUTH UNCONDITIONALLY, WITHOUT TESTING IT! Interesting and on top of that you are calling me deceived.

  • Oh so now you are speaking on behalf of the gay community and on behalf of God - when you say they Don't WANT GOD'S GRACE. PLEASE LEAVE THE THINGS THAT GOD NEEDS TO DECIDE TO HIM AND CARRY ON WITH SOME WORK.

  • Nice one! Calling me an immature Christian because I differ in my views is REAL MATURE and so is calling someone a "nutjob". Yes, I have got to learn all about Christian virtue and truthfulness from you, my brother. After all, what a fine example you have become. But enough of this, seriously - Haven;t you read "Judge not and you shall not be judged. Condemn not and you shall not be condemned". That is what goes with the homosexuality community as well.

  • Because it is written "ALL have sinned and fallen short ..". I don't care what the gay community or what any other so called Christian community thinks . Jesus said "the son of man came to save the lost, not to condemn". If has God decided to extend his salvation and love to sinners, who am I to stop him. And who are you? So there is no need for spreading fear and hatred unnecessarily. Please don't expect everyone to go around speaking Christianese as you.

  • That is not what the kingdom of God is all about. And if you cared to listen closely to Manning's message of love and tolerance, you may have seen that it is not actually different from what Jesus preached. And so what if he is Roman Catholic. That is just a name. And what bout you? Should you be of a particular denomination to get to heaven? Does the Bible say that?

  • Thanks for being so concerned over my eternal state- but I already have a shepherd who is able to keep me from stumbling. So thanks for your brotherly and kind Christian concern-I only suggest you show it elsewhere. As for being deceived, the Lord said you shall know them by their fruits-he didn't say words. And stop condemning and bearing false witnesses against your brethren- That is not very Christ like.

  • He has not denied the Lord neither the Father. As for contemplation, the Bible talks about staying silent before the Lord many times. Perhaps you should try practicing it more often. Start with your posts -try producing fewer and sensible words.

  • john146only, I wasn't sure if your comment was directed at me. But if it was, no-I am not against sound doctrine, what I am against is people judging each other according to their own doctrine rather than the doctrine presented in the Bible. Having said that, I have seen nothing unbiblical about Manning's message and doctrine, so far in this video nor in any other presentation of his. He has only been a God given inspiration to me, and I am sure for others.

  • And John146only, please do not reply or comment me any further on this matter. I see below that you have much better things to be occupied in, such as spreading strife and malice among fellow Christians. Please continue to do so, but we are done.

  • Amen, john146only, avoiding ele12957 is good advice. My wife, Utopiang, refuses to communicate with him even when he tries to provoke a reaction by making false accusations about her. Now he's sending insulting replies to unrelated comments she made on videos weeks ago to try to get her back in the game. But she's being wise about it and trusts in Christ (Matthew 5:11).

ele12957 is obsessive and denying him/her interaction is the most effective way to deal with him/her.

  • Watch this warning video about ele12957:

    /watch?v=-GGW3VAuEp4

The Christian community is aware that he/she is a cyber troll/bully and are warning people not to get into a discussion with him. If you disagree with ele12957 on ANY issue he/she will come after you like the devil himself. He's been after my wife (Utopiang) for 4 months since he/she took offense to her comments on a video about Benny Hinn mentor Kathryn Kuhlman.

Share the video with others (Romans 16:17). In Christ.

  • hmmm.... check the illbehonest channel.... This guy is very sincere, but you'll see in the channel that he is very mistaken... and to his or not to his doing, ignorant of God's word.

  • Utopiang, you obviously have much to learn about God and his ways. Nowhere does Manning teach doctrines of demons- what a thing to say!

  • Hi MagicalSpacePumpkin, let's examine one of Manning's many heresies:

"[T]he god whose moods alternate between graciousness and fierce anger ...the god who exacts the last drop of blood from his Son so that his just anger, evoked by sin, may be appeased, is not the God revealed by and in Jesus Christ. And if he is not the God of Jesus, he does not exist" (Brennan Manning, Above All, p. 58-59).

Here Manning denies the penal substitutionary atonement despite the prophecy of Isaiah 53:4 & 10.

  • This man is truly amazing. Yet, it is not him who is amazing but the message that has been given to him by God. It truly is like beautiful glacier water in a world full of tepid streams. May God bless him and all those who he helps to strengthen.

  • Brennan Manning - A truely called man of God. God has taken him under his hand, and through the holy spirit has led Manning to such a powerful sermon. This sermon is life changing. Thank you, my friend, for uploading this!

  • Thank you to the person who uploaded this video. No one but God could possibly know how desperately I needed to hear this message, and I view it as a gift from His loving hand given through you.

  • thank you brennan

  • I just can't believe it. This is so good...

  • This guy is awesome

  • Grace upon grace--no one preaches it better than Brennan.

  • This man has and continues to make me weep. Or, rather, it is the One that speaks through him in ways to break through the defenses I set up against Him with humble Love to draw me back to His grace. I will never understand how He does this, nor how He can use mere men to hammer His message of Love into our hearts. The fact that I AM is with us here, though we curse His name and deny His existence is something that is beyond me. I suppose that is why we can cry: "Abba, nothing is beyond You."

  • It is good to hear something as bold, fresh and uncompromised as this. It got me rethinking alot of things.

  • I am deeply distressed by what I only can call in our Christian culture

    >> the idolatry of the Scriptures. For many Christians, the Bible is not a

    >> pointer to God but God himself. In a word-bibliolatry. God cannot be

    >> confined within the covers of a leather-bound book. I develop a nasty

    >> rash around people who speak as if mere scrutiny of its pages will reveal

    >> precisely how God thinks and precisely what God wants."-Brennan Manning,

    >> Signature of Jesus, pp. 188-189

  • Dittomom, the quote you gave by Manning is blasphemous. The Word of God is inspired BY God - the words came from directly from HIM. GOD confined the revelation of Himself to the Bible. We are not to know any more than that which He has revealed. Manning and other mystics seek a subjective extra-biblical experiential faith which the Lord describes it in the Word as "doctrines of demons" (1 Tim 4:1). 2 Cor 12:4 makes the reason for the closed canon clear. Beware of false teachers (2 Pe 2:1).

  • Instead of asking what it means to be cool in Christ Jesus, it would be more prudent to ask what it means to be the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!

  • You may want to view again, I don't think you got the heart of the message yet.

  • You didn't watch the video, did you?

  • I have studied the man and his message and I know that he does not teach God as being holy; but rather teaches self acceptance after the model of Carl Jung, and contemplative spirituality after the model of Thomas Merton.

  • You got any quotes? Sources? Links? Videos? I love people like you who make comments without backup. If you're going to accuse him of being a heretic, then at least quote him or provide a scholarly critique that we can see. Otherwise, your comment has no benefit other than to tear a man down.

  • drum, I have had a long e-mail exchange with Studier101 he hasn't read anything by BM but gets most of his info from anti-BM sites. I believe he is a calvinist and the thought that anyone could choose God or that God could love someone who was not "elected" is a concept calvinist just are not able to grasp.

  • No, Brennan Manning teaches that Christ accepts us, that it is all about Christ and not our appearances, and that Jesus transforms lives and empowers us to do good works. He is not an intellectual purveyor of God knowledge, but one who actually lives out the wisdom of God in Christ and teaches others to do the same.

  • Manning is a purveyor of Contemplative Spirituality-Nouwen, Merton, Keating, Foster, St. John of the Cross, and St. Teresa style.

The man claims Jesus spoke to him and advocates things like centering prayer and the "empty chair".He has never repented of Rome or articulated Christ's atonement as a propitiation for the sins of the world.

He equivocates on the issue of homosexuality, if not downright condones it.

He is preaching another Jesus and a different Gospel. I have a dozen or so references.

  • ha ha ha ha ha - love you man

  • Can you send me some links to show that he has dissident thinking?

  • studier101, it is good to know that you are a studier of the law, and not a studier of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is funny how you slander a fellow servant of Christ, by only posting on his negatives- which according to you are a barrier to the truth. You have judged him as harshly as you can , without giving a thought to the Spirit behind his words.. Jesus said " But if ye had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the guiltless." -Matt.15

  • Listen to what the Lord says to those who insist on judging others unfairly "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone."

  • In as much judgment is necessary , mercy is equally necessary. For you would not be talking , if it were not for the mercy of God. I am tired of evangelists who insist on knocking everyone down with their "sound doctrine"- when will we learn that it is not doctrine that saves, but faith in the living Christ. I have heard Brennnan Manning, and he has never openly advocated or supported homosexuality. What he condemns HOWEVER is the unfounded fear, anxiety and hatred surrounding homosexuality.

  • Jesus says again and again that he came to save the lost. It is not the righteous that need him, but the sinners. Sinners who had to have sins in their lives. When Christ preached never once did he call someone a sinner- he only said "do not sin". His will is not for people to perish but for them to know the truth. FOR THE SON OF MAN DID NOT COME TO CONDEMN BUT TO SAVE. This is Manning's message, how wrong could that be?

  • Again, AMEN, Studier101. You have spoken wisely and with blessed discernment. God bless you.

  • Amen, Studier101. Brennan Manning's mystic teachings are heretical and dangerous.

  • Its a catch phrase. and one can only be seen by God in His righteousness by the Grace of God its by Faith that we are saved and by Faith Christian are called to live. We can do nothing but God has already done everything we just need to accept

  • Manna from heaven at last. Wish I could preach like this!

  • Raw truth from the heart of God from a man who has walked with Him. Very very very good. Had the same message on cassette many years ago. Delighted to find it on you tube. thanks techmissionic!

  • this was awesome Brennan!Thankyou for sharing the ragamuffin gospel....compassion of Jesus.

    shari

  • thank you techmissioninc for put this Up... may God bless you

  • Wow, for the first time I see that Jesus loves me, and I've been in church all my life. I HEARD that Jesus loved me, I SPOKE that Jesus loved me, but I never felt it. Until now.

  • Amazing! I love it!

  • mackiemoo,I was only going to watch a few min.since it's so long but,got addicted and watched the whole thing!Yes,as Brennan said;"Jesus Christ is the Son of Compassion."

    Thanks techmissioninc and mackiemoo!

  • I love this message. This is GOOD NEWS. The gospel of grace is the only gospel. Great man, Brennan Manning, speaking about an even greater man. - read "The Ragamuffin Gospel"
