I like guns, but this just makes me sick, these are three very good examples of how and why current fire-arm legislation is as obstructive as it is exploitable. You shouldn't distort rifles to fit with bullshit legislative loop holes like these, it creates poor firearms, and it gives an ugly face to the firearm world, worse still it gives people in office things to bitch about. @GunWebsites Not my point. I don't support government intrusion, I also don't think that the people writing gun laws have any clue what they are doing. They simply get in the way, go after specific components that they understand, they try to ban pistol grips and barrel shrouds, can't keep tabs on what weapon is considered what, they make you wait a few weeks for weeks for your gun. They are uninformed, needlessly obstructive, and they do not prevent the things they try to stop.

@kartoonkid101 No it's not. AK-47 shoots a 7.62x39, while the AK-74 shoots a 5.45x39. So caliber is the main difference. The AK-74 also came with a chrome lined barrel, making it last longer. There's also 30 years of technology between the two guns. That's about the extent of my knowledge on AK's though.

Smith & Wesson sells them also. Or you could build your own. It's basically just an AR-15 rifle, but the barrel is shorter and there is no butt stock. The simple addition of a stock would make it an "SBR" and would require a $200 tax stamp.

You're right about the AR. It's has a much shorter barrel and no stock. That's what makes it a pistol. The addition of a stock would give it "SBR (short barrel rifle)" status and he'd have to fill out paper work, pay $200 dollars and wait a while for approval before being able to legally own it. The whole "SBR" thing is a crock anyway. What's so special about 16 inches for a barrel length?  Who's ass did that number come out of?
