Its a very difficult question. By necessity, Scorsese descends/derives from Kubrick, and yet appears, at times, to surpass him. Scorsese is best when he deals with domestic stories, individuals; he is a very colloquial, settled director. Meanwhile, Kubrick is all over the board; never sticking to one genre, one never senses he has a Kubrickian touch, a STYLE, which is a rather odd observation, as all his films are rather stylized (to the point of being rigid).
