HAHAHA Why is everyone slating the sound of the civic? Next time you get overtaken by the sound of VTEC just turn your radio up a bit and try and drain it out ;)
@eastern11battery Haha as a Honda devotee i have to agree that Civic does sound crap. And i love the Vtec and I Vtec engine. I have an Ivtec Honda and i have to admit mate there are a lot of other cars out there that can whoop it, it surprises me sometimes. VTEC is great but not brilliant just loved by the tuning fraternity as easily tuned .
@Azureecosse I agree, There sure are alot of cars out there that would quite easily whoop it! But what motor does this civic have in it? The video says it has a 2.2 but i'm guessing even if this was running a k20a it would make alot more distance between the mondeo, to me it sound more like a b16a2 or a b18c4 motor, not bad for for a 1.6/8 even if the crap exhaust has ruined the sound! I'm not a civic fanatic, neither a ford freak but honda are fantastic engineers and dont deserve to be slated.
@eastern11battery There slating the sound because of the shitty cheap fart can on the back... Now maybe if the idiot spent money on a decent exhaust system it would sound so much better also also gain BHP! TBH vtec engines are only decent at around 6K.....
@CarTRIBUTE I'm an idiot because I'm expressing my opinion on a video that everyone is aswell? Your comment makes alot of sense, doesn't it? It's only a bit of banter FFS, lighten up!
the crap start was down to long gears on the v6 models which lets them down. other mondeo owners who own 4 pots and even diesels diss the v6. the v6 needs a turbo really but sadly its very difficult to get one in the engine bay.
@totalguy I don't think it was the gearing, it was just a case of the car being far superior to the driver who hasn't got a clue how to launch. He can't even say he was trying to save his clutch because the start was just crap. The gearing isn't too bad in the V6 in 1st, 2nd, 3rd - it's 4th which is the bitch. It's very tall, over 120mph at the redline I think. I'd still rather drive a V6 over the shitty diesels though, I'll take crap economy and smooth performance over a chuggy hairdryer :)
@adslegend I own a V6 and the gearing is too tall, but once you're over 3500 revs the secondaries open and you're away. You'll be behind for the first 10 yards but after that you'll real them in. Secondary failure is quite common, so if his secondaries have gone he's only producing about 140bhp max. Could explain why it looked so tame. This just looks like the driver messed up the start though. I dunno what Romanello is saying but the weight of a V6 mondeo is 1300-1400kg, not 1700kg.
@adslegend my mates got a tdci with nos without nos 183bhp with nos who knows 85bhp jet on it would leave a mondeo v6 behind easily. i prefer the torque on a diesel ill never go back to petrols now.
@totalguy got to compare like to like though - a TDCI mondeo has 155bhp standard (2.2 STTDCI) and is slower than the ST200. An ST200 tuned as your mate's TDCI is would be pushing out somewhere around 210-220 and with an 85shot of NOS it would be chucking out around 300bhp so, like for like, the ST200 would destroy the TDCI. Diesels are lovely for cruising but horribly unrewarding to drive fast. They run out of revs far too quickly. There's more to life than peak bhp figures - it's about delivery
@rudeboymick funny you should say that his tdci was dyno'd sunday with and without nos and with nos it was kicking out 223bhp. i for one am happy i had my tddi remapped and its now putting out 160bhp which is really good for a tddi
@totalguy it is very good for a TDDI; is it a 130 or 115? I was at a remap day recently and those diesels get good gains from just a remap - can't say how much difference it makes in the real world cos I haven't driven one. But even with NOS the TDCI was only 223bhp which is around what a tuned ST200 can get without gas, so it proves the point about comparing like to like. I'm sure it's fast and would easily beat a standard V6, but that's not the point.
@rudeboymick my tddi apparently was 115 same as all tddi mondeo's in the uk. there was a 90bhp version in other countries though. i have a fixed vane turbo though and most of them have a variable vane turbo. it was putting out 144 before remap, only mods are removed the silencers and a K&N panel filter which probably gave me about 5bhp. i have drove a standard tdci 130 and most wil be putting out more and they can bloody shift its all about torque with a diesel and acceleration because they fly
@totalguy I drive a 2.2d x-type a lot (basically an STTDCI underneath) and I know what you mean about the torque - great for in gear acceleration but still feels dead compared to my tuned V6 mk2 at high revs. You on talkford.com?
@rudeboymick yeah i am lol same username. if you drive and catch the turbo right it will shift like shite off a shovel lol mine does if you dont catch it right it wil ljust seem like its just reving and not doing much. id say the same applies to all diesels
The mondys mass is almost twice that of the civic, and the crap start doesent give the ford any credit. I know for a fact that the mondies even though they are a heavier car will still handle very well (like all euro fords), you cant compare 2 very different cars. A more suitable match would be a focus st170, which is a similar weight and has similar engine characteristics. (ive owned both an st24 and an st170 and im quite familiar with the older civics and i know what great cars they are.)
I don't know the specs of the civic but I do know that they seem to mostly be driven by twats who don't know how to drive properly, at least in my area. And they do sound crap with those stupid backboxes on, most 4 pots do.

I have got an ST24 and I have to say it is a great car. The engine is nice and torquey and makes a nice noise.
It is basically an exec car though, so it is heavy. I am guessing that the Civic - although I have no idea of the mods on either car - was a lot lighter.
I had a Mazda 323 before and it handled beautifully, really light and low, the mondy is totally different but its a lot of fun to drive, as well as abit of a sleeper. Which is nice
nice civic man...its well.....errr No, worth mentioning i was playing with a civic today coming off roundabouts etc i was out accelerating him so badly up his ass he put his indicators on to say...enoughs enough...loser! V6 Mondy kicks some ass!
