the whole album attic faith is so inspirational, at a point in his life when he was living in an attic in Amsterdam he felt as though he was the only one who believed in his music and every time he'd play a show fewer and fewer people would attend but this truly shows how you gotta keep believing in yourself and good things will happen. he is one of my favorite solo artists for sure
Amazing song from an amazing album, why Polichinelle was never as big as some of the syuff that Cold Play and Keane knocked out is proof that it's all about marketing and luck. It's all about personal taste but i play Polichinelle as much as i do jeff Buckleys Grace. And i love that album.
I saw the Prayer Boat play live in 1999, waited in vain for them to hit the big time and their songs are some of the most beautiful lyrically and musically I have ever heard. So happy to find other people who agree.
This song is exquisite and Emmett's voice even lovelier. It's beyond my comprehension why this band didn't make it. Perhaps it's just that they were too good - often the best stuff doesn't get recognised by the masses. So sad.
But thanks Emmett - to quote from the song, 'You give me poetry for my hunger...' I couldn't live without your music.
I only discovered Emmett and The Prayer Boat in 2006 but since then I have become totally smitten. As someone who has been through some pretty rough times,
their music - and lyrics - have helped me immensely.
Emmett once said that what keeps him going is knowing he means something to some people 'very intensely'. Well, I am one of those people and if Emmett happens to ever read this, I just want to thank him. He will never know how much he means to me.

He and the song are as fresh as the day he wrote it. Such gentle genius - a gift for us all.

Emmett Tinley is still making music and has released an album "Attic Faith", but The Prayer Boat as a band are no more.
