i think the fact that he could take off his makeup kind of killed it for me in the movie, like the joker's white skin is what kept him so mysterious, like you never knew who he was!
@goth9ever you can't compare them...Nicholson wasn't psychotic he just laughed..just because Nicholson is one of the greatest actors of all time it doesn't mean he was a better Joker...
@Susi2584 i'll be fair, heath was the comic joker and nicolson was the animated joker but from a hero/villian point of view, nicolson was the better joker
i dont mind heaths joker but its not maker any batman fan should know before joker became joker was running with other people because the just robed someplace batman chased them downto a chemical plant and batman accidently push joker in some chemical waste holder thingy and made jokers skin white hes hair green and well became the joker duh any nerd should know that =p
I don't think he was taking drugs in a " I wanna get high type of way" or fighting depression, He was having a lot of trouble sleeping for a really long time. He was at a point where he wasn't sleeping and the only thing helping was perscription drugs. He was probably taking more and more because it never really helped...
the different storys of how the joker got his scars is a reference to a comic called "the killing joke" in which he states that he remembers his past in different ways.
What's cool is that Nolan trusted Heath Ledger so much he let him design his own makeup and direct the second threat video about blowing up the hospital shown on TV.
I dont like to compare him with Nicholson at all cus he was also perfect for Joker of that time, I mean thats like comparing Nicholson to Cesar Romero, completely different times man, and I dont think thats fair. Having said that, ofcourse Heath is also a great Joker, cus he is the modern day Joker a more realistic one that our time demanded. He will b Immortalized in this role for sure, and yes that make up is great wot we expect from today's standards thats just a little thing really lol.
i wonder if they could use his character in hollywood again since its a separate persona ledger invented and requires makeup anyway. im sure theres an actor that can do it. just like brandon routhe or w/e his name was, not perfect spiting image but enough. ya know?
@Seanshines@Seanshines A lot of people in the movie industry and involved with the Dark Knight said that Ledger got too involved in the character. What interested me about this Joker is that he had different reasons to why he got those scars......he was a complete mystery that's what made him more of threat than Jack Nicholson's Joker
@RoDiggityDangit18 Its pretty true to the comics, as well. In The Killing Joke, when he is talking about what made him the way he is, he says, "Sometimes I remember it one way, sometimes another...If I'm going to have a past, I prefer it to be multiple choice!". Interestingly, The Killing Joke is the main character source that both Ledger and Mark Hamill used. Of the three main actors that have played joker, my preference is Hamill, Ledger, Nicholson (in that order).
@RoDiggityDangit18 i figured it out actually, the long scar on the right cheek was his dad, and the small one on his left cheek and lower lip was because of the razor he put in his mouth
@RoDiggityDangit18 OMG, the first time he told the story about his scars I was so disapointed. I was like, sap story boo hoo. Then he told the story again, AND CHANGED IT COMPLETELY. Holy eff, blew my world.
@RoDiggityDangit18 the jack nicholson joker somewhat follows the original story line. the joker is supposed to fall into a vat of chemichals but we were never told his name, and because of his insanity even he can't remeber his true past all he knows for sure is he's the joker
@clashcitycretin10 I hear you on that. But when we see Jack Nicholson's character fall in the chemicals and transform into the Joker, we understand his insanity.Remember what he said in the movie "You dropped me in that vat of chemicals! That wasn't an easy thing to get over and don't think I didnt try."But Heath's Joker, for all we know he was always screwed in the head.He didnt have a traumatizing experience,he's just psychotic because he simply wants to be.
@RoDiggityDangit18 i see heath ledger's interpretation of thejoker as more a riddler. he wasjust a really smart guy that wanted to hve fun and screw with batman, that's what the riddler is all about.
this song makes me think about the Vietnam war, i can see the Huey's flying in formation whit napalm exploding on the background, @Skybreeze08 i dont know if he was a good dad, but he was a great actor, and he was a great Joker ! loved the magic trick scene :D

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to be rude to Heath in any way, but he did not play a very good Joker; though Heath did play a good maniac, he was not a good Joker. I have seen a much better actor (A.K.A. Jack Nicholson) play this character. Mark Hamill, though, by far is the greatest vioce actor for Joker. In my eyes he is the Joker!
If anyone wants to argue against my statement just remember it is simply my OPINION!!!!!!
@ChiRoxMySox Heath took it and owned it. He wasn't trying to copy the previous Jokers, he did his own. In my opinion he was the best. His Joker just brought the audience to a different place. The best scenes in the movie are the ones with him in it. The acting was superb.
Comic books Joker i different. It was completely new Joker. And for my taste. Not some comic book character with colors and grin, but a real psychopath. There will be no better superhero movie because of him - he did his job to good.
@canesrule96 I only watched the scenes he was in. I have no actual idea what the movie was about I just know that the Joker, no matter who plays him, is Beast in hotness and other wise.
@canesrule96 Persoanally, Jack Nicholson is the best Joker but not trying to copy and making it his own made Heath Ledger's version outstanding ! ! Romero, Nicholson, Ledger ALL brilliant in their own way ! !
@canesrule96 well.. u do know that the joker character cost him his life. He basically stuffed crack inside his body just to deliver this performance. It was great, but it wasn't worth it.
with makeup scared the crap outta me but great job i mean before this i saw how hegot his scars and ots fits so well with that i always thought it was because of makeup so if you dont know how he got them type in how the joker got his scars
I highly doubt anyone is gonna read this but I'ma write it anyway cause I did it for Heath and his loved ones.. PLEASE, PLEASE & PLEASE check out my latest single dedicated to the late, great Heath Ledger!!
It's called "The Joker Never Died"
Whoever said The Joker died, obviously was mistaken.
Without the makeup, Joker's scars don't even look *that* bad(bad enough). The scar on his left cheek doesn't even connect to the corner of his mouth either. He definitely scores high for shock value all the same.
@Lindylax821 Jesus man, what did i say to piss you off? Man, all I was saying is if you wanted to see what the joker looked like without make just look at heath ledger, no need to post this. I think I'm done with youtube, people are douchebags.
i think the fact that he could take off his makeup kind of killed it for me in the movie, like the joker's white skin is what kept him so mysterious, like you never knew who he was!

@canesrule96 I only watched the scenes he was in. I have no actual idea what the movie was about I just know that the Joker, no matter who plays him, is Beast in hotness and other wise.

@canesrule96 Well yeah but the last scene which was totally epic did not have joker in it

It's weird seeing this. This is the only scene in TDK where we see Heath without makeup, and it's only for a second, and he doesn't speak.
