Thank you, bgmolly, for making this superb film available. I thought that I had seen the best performances by Miss Shearer but this one is now at the head of the list. Soap opera it may be but that is what moviegoers wanted in 1931 - big extravagant sets and big extravagant emotions to help them forget their own lives of quiet desperation. And it did the same thing for me this evening!
@unclepup This is silent movie? Shearer is the worst actress ever in films. If she had not been Jewish they would have laughed her off the screen. Small beady eyes so close to her nose. sheesh. she can't act either

elegant actress and commanded the screen. I never knew Neil Hamilon aka Commissoner Gordon on the 1967 Batman series, was such a ladies man in the early days.
The way that plane nosedived, SHE must've written 'kiss?', and HE must've written 'help yourself' - damn Hays Code.
