@mesa401 I bought mine from Cold Steel directly in 2007 & it doesen't say if its carbon steel or not.? I paid apx $85.00 + shp from them, & the Sheth is plain & does not look like the newer ones made of a Kydex type material i have no idea of what type alloy my Recon Scout is made of.? The other knives that I bought from them has a red label on it saying carbon steel keep oiled or it will rust.?
@ALEX165ALICKI The carbon ones will rust if you neglect them. A light coat of oil in storage will prevent that. Hang on to the carbon ones, the prices are going up n them fast on ebay.
@fappometer14 The BK7 is great, without a doubt, but it has a thin blade, and it's not full-flat ground as the RS is. Personally, I have both, and I think both are great, but overall, I think I like the RS more, because it's got such a thick blade that just blasts apart wood. The BK7 has a fairly thin blade. But, in some scenarios, I'd prefer that thin blade. Both great knives, but given the choice, it'd be RS 6 times out of 10.
New proposed rules from the U S Customs will broaden the definitions of illegal knives to include all Knife's that can be opened with one hand which will in effect ban ALL pocket knives nationwide that can be opened with one hand please go to AKTI before June 18, to help prevent this, the only contribution asked of you is your voice
Why were you chopping ice? Get a damn ice pick if your doing that. Your claim sounds a bit BS, my friend has cut through dozens of logs on our trips, I highly doubt that it would chip on a little ice. However I probably wouldn't use any of my knives to do that, I WOULD USE A DAMN ICE PICK.
I was just trying it out while I was in the woods one winter day. I love Cold Steel's products and I own about a dozen of them. What I believe to be BS is the tip strength tests they show. If I can blunt a tip by chipping ice, there is no way that they can do all that stabbing and still have a perfectly undamaged tip.
@godslefthand83 Type in "Cold Steel destruction test" on youtube. You should come up with a guy named "noss4". He basically tests a variety of different knives until they are completly destroyed. He doesn't have a test for this specific model I believe, but he does have one for other cold steel knives such as the SRK carbon V and the tips hold up very well.
I actually don't own one so I wouldn't know, but from what I hear it should work great. If your blade was damaged then contact Cold Steel and send it back. They should set you up with a new one if it's as bad as you say it is. Good luck.

Well duhr.
It's trying to show that the blade isn't damaged at all, hence why they do close-ups.

I have one of these with the carbon V blade. The tip got jacked up just by chipping some ice. These tests are BS
