@blueroomexit They didn't write better B-sides but they were of a high quality, much like The Smiths, because they took their template from The Smiths, in terms of creating their own individual world full of a particular iconography.
@kaledrina no it isn't. Violence can be absolutely fair. Any creature faced with danger to itself or dearest (in a broad sense) will rightfully resort to it. Useless street attacks, however, are not traditional or fair, but a result of directionless aggresion or surpressed homoerotic impulses (remember: men don't fight, men kill). Would an aristocrat touch a bar bully with anything but his produced sword?
@tenderprey75 Having to resort to violence to protect isn't fair either though if you're going to talk about fairness. It's not fair to have to resort to any kind of extreme measure because there's no choice in the matter.
I also gotta disagree. Not every creature is willing to resort to violence, even when in danger. There's plenty of people out there that won't. Some might think those kinds of people are stupid but that's really neither here nor there.
@sherwoodfella that's what bowie fans probably said when Suede came out! but yes, amazing band. Bernard Butler should be in the pantheon of greats...amazing how little he gets referenced these days....
Very good point about bowie, I think I said the same to someone else last week! I think Suede summed up a period in my life for me, they were one of the first bands I ever got into when I was 13. , , ,so my opinion is entirely biased!!
@sidandmoi actually, i've come to like this song, pretty much. I prefer the Sci-Fi Lullabies version (which somehow sounds slightly different from this, maybe it was mastered in a different way i dunno) to any live concert. those multi-layered vocals on the chorus are top notch, the guitar track is really good, and overall, that class the track has cannot be portrayed in a live show. imo...
I love the live version of this on the special live cd/dvd that came with Coming Up. Sounds so much better!!! Aghhhh....why is that? I guess his live performance is just more spontaneous, passionate, recklessly genuine. I love how much energy they always seem to bring to stage. Every single video I've watched so far, of so many different songs of theirs from different years and tours, they are all hyped up and so alive in the moment. Crazy. Wish more bands could pour that immediacy out.
yeah Asphalt World is great. but i think youre right killing of a flash boy should not only been a b-side. its a fucking great song. so as new generation:)
I adore this song, maybe it's my favourite one by Suede, my favourite band... so what can I say? Yea, 'Asphalt World' is great, but the treatment of the sounds, the ryhtm, the lyrics... all is so perfectly dirty here that I can't help falling in love with it! What a shame it wasn't include like an A-side in an album... because its quality is evident.
It's about 4 mins. It's about the Killing of a flash boy. It's set down in Hackney. Which if you don't know is a very violent place. Suede sent a crew down there to film this as a backdrop for the tour. They used real people from the area.
omg what a crock of shit! I've seen all these real people in the bill. You also make Hackney sound like south central... I lived there for 3 years and never got mugged. streatham on the other hand...
@blueroomexit Have to disagree. Sorry.

Love the song. Just can't stand the non-sense violence.
tenderprey75 1 year ago
@tenderprey75 but there's so much violence implicit in a lot of Suede's music, certainly while Bernard Butler was still in the band
baboon2525 1 year ago
@baboon2525 there is. Violence is a symptom of our time, and Suede are obviously allowed to portray it.

Why'd this get left off "Dog Man Star"?? It would have fitted better than "New Generation".

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It all depends on opinion. But I think the best song was by far "Asphalt World", no matter how cliched it got it was just too fucking cool for words.
I thought 'New Generation' just sucked to be honest, it didn't fit, and wasn't upto the standard early Suede had.
