You should do this if you don't care about over-leveling -- i.e., stealth skills are your main stats (i.e. for a thief/ninja-archetype), or you don't play on the Expert or Master difficulties (Master especially), or you have really good equipment... or you are high level already (past lvl 30-50, after lvl 50 you have to level up EVERYTHING to reach lvl 80, to get to lvl 81 you need to have saved your skill books!)... or you just don't care at all, lol.

Overleveling aint as bad as Fallout 3 tho.

@Jarrkha In Fallout 3, you literally have to plan your skill/perk progression from the moment you're able to gain experience points.

And in Skyrim....... just playing the game on Master will level up your Sneak CRAZILY.

How come no one mentions that you not only up your sneak skill level but also your weapon skill level? For example i use a one handed weapon and whack him from behind. After a couple of hits, i will level up my one handed skill. You can do the same with a two handed weapon and hit him from behind. Oh and someone here mentioned that you can restore their health too. So you can carry a sword in one hand, heal in one hand and level up restoration,one handed and sneak at the same time AND level too!

yah im wondering that too, what does happen, does your stats revert back to the previouse checkpoint? or when you die (if you do) do they stay the same, because if thats true, who cares if you die,  you can just keep doing what you do, once you get behind the guy, just save right there and I dont think pissing him off is really as bad as it seems. any comments? suggestions? thumbs up?

@SlipknotDemonify Er i got my sneak done like this months ago. When you die, you just load back up to your save point and continue hitting him in the back again. For example you saved when you were up at 30 sneak. Then you died at 40 sneak points. You will load up to the save point (which was at 30 sneak). Try this. It works. You can always make a save file before you start hitting the guy.

It's only frustrating when you keep hitting them and then forget to save and they suddenly turn you into an icecube and you have to start again from the nearest save point. Trust me, around 80 sneak later, saving is essential. What i did was instead of hitting them repeatedly and quickly in this video, i hit them once and then the "seeing eye" in the middle of the screen opens. I then wait till it closes again and hit the person behind again.

i know it may seem pointless, but i think you should save before you start hitting, there have been accidents with the guys turning on you and knowing you have been hitting them for a while, so they basically instakill fus ro dah you. honestly, this is a good way, but what happens to your stats if you die without saving?

If youre a low level, just sneak behind him and hit him once at a time then dip out. do that over and over and youre sneak will level up just about every time you do that.

if you notice in his skills page under sneak, he didn't unlock the 15x damage for daggers while sneaking. Im guessing if that were unlocked, it might make this a bit more difficult.

Hey guys, an even better way, (although it will make the game very unbalanced unless if you level up a damage skill too) is when your in the intro with Hodvar or Ralof, when they stop at the bear near the end, stop, put it on master difficulty so they don't die, lure them to a corner / spot they cant see you, and then stab their backs as much as you want. Remember that hitting them also pushes them so they don't have to be in a corner. I got my sneak to lvl 100 in about 5 minutes if that.

its not patched atall so shut up, the only reason they turn round straight away is because you've nearly killed them before-.- what you need to do is put the difficulty on master attack till they stand up then get 3 hits then move onto the next one

Yeh dude, this worked really well, but guys I need an answer. I did this until I got to level 78 sneak but ended up pissing off one of the Greybeards. It wasn't pretty but I got away. Now when I go back in to High Hrothgar they are all docile, but when I try to start attacking while sneaking again they immediately attack me. Anyone know when/if they'll revert back to their original attitude and I can start leveling up again? Thanks in advance.

You can also at the very beginning of the game, follow Hadvor into the keep. Ignore the chest and grab a sword off the wall.. You can have any level sneak, you'll never be detected.. Its what I do all the time.. lol xD

You can also easily do this just behind Paarthurnax's right foot with an iron dagger. Like @zomgl2pnoobffs noted, you can have Healing Hands on your off-hand to level your Restoration at the same time, takes no more than half an hour, and no matter what, Paarthurnax just doesn't give a rat's ass about getting his foot cut apart. (Probably because he can fly.)
