Hair is very difficult and expensive to animate. The fact that they can even animate someone with hair that long, worn down like that is enough of a challenge.

Technically DMC2 takes place several years after DMC1 (read the booklet). DMC3 precedes both of those games. As far as I know DMC4 could either take place in those years between DMC1 and DMC2, or after them.

And I wouldn't use Dante's in game model as a judge, it changes too drastically with each game. In the 1st one he was tanned, in the 2nd he looked like a vampire, in the 3rd he could have starred in gay porn.
