  • is the ocean beach railway still running if so can you tell me when they are open for service?

  • Um .. well -- some of them -- as those are MINE -- on my latest video:

Re: ... Live Steam -- NZR (entitled) ...

LIVE STEAM - an AB on the move (NZR) - My 10 yrs in New Zealand Railways & 20 yrs of (my own) trains

  • Want a few Tags (try): LIVE STEAM an AB on the move NZR 10yrs New Zealand Railways and my 20yrs worth own hand built trains Galloway station Clyde buildings Cromwell turntable terminus last train Central Otago Branch Line "The Otago Central Rail Trail" Deisel DJ's DSC Shunter RM class Vulcan Drewry Silver_Fern Multiple Units "Model T Petrol Railcar" plus old Taieri Gorge bogie passenger wagons assorted locomotives railbike preserved restored vintage Josephine "A-67" Dubbs Ocean_Beach & Dunedin

  • Not that I didn't HAVE my own "free passes" ;-) and thus "rode' in the cab .. of several trains .. or the BACK CAB .. on weekends .. on the OCB "Vulcan" Railcars...

As I worked for the NZR .. in the District Civil Engineers Office , out of Fryatt St., behind the NZR Bus terminal .. at the south end of the Dunedin Passenger Yard... in the early 70's

  • That wee loco -- was a DUBBS .. (and is written about extensively .. Bruce Leitch's book : ENGINE CAB (Bruce Leitch was my super hero .. having as it was .. away back then .. the KIWI gift of the gab .. and a unique ability .. to gain ENGINE PASSES .. and Gaurdsvan passes .. to some of the most beautiful steam locomotive headed NZR running trains ..

And he wrote several good books.. the one I loved the best .. being called simply :

    ENGINE PASS

  • U know .. I used to walk past that wee "rusty" hulk of a totally neglected ICONIC museum piece .. sitting ALL FORLORN .. outside in all weathers .. beside it's look alike Double Failie ... (Josephene) .. at Dunedin's vintage museum .. away back in the very early 1970's & I always USED to wish .. that I owned it .. and could restore it to full running delight.

    Isn't it a true pity..

That the once proud "Josephene" ..wasn't also in a full head of steam .. running the rails at the "beach" too.

  • Apparently that loco has a Westinghouse pump behind the front headstock! The only 'A' (1873) to have one.

  • Nice
