3M-77 will eat depron, styrofoam, bluecore, and foamboard......I use it for my EPP planes only, never use epoxy, too much weight, also spray it outside, fumes are toxic to breathe...nice job
EPP is Expanded polypropylene, an engineered plastic foam material. Stronger and more resistant to damage. it works well to make a plane that can survive some pretty good crashes.
Hey there just a question, 3M90 spray you used, can it be used with depron? EPP foam can take CA even... which is not the case with depron. I'm afraid 3M90 spray would eat depron... am I right? Thanks!
3m90, i have not used on Depron yet. i think it may eat depron, but not sure. I know it eats Blue Core Foam, found that out the hard way, LOL. I would test any adhesive on a scrap piece of foam first to make sure it works. It took a few mistakes for me to learn that too, LOL.
Where do I find the Fiberglass weave you used here? I hadn't heard of it before and would like to do some testing with it on a build I am working on next.
aecomputer1, you can get it at Home Depot. The one on Hwy K has it, thats where I got it last. It is usually in the Roofing Repair area. Alos Home Depot carries the 3M 90 Spray adhesive. this adhesive will work for EPP but NOT on Blue core or some others. So if you use it, test it on scrap material first to make sure it does not eat the foam. Anyway, would love to hear how your testing goes if you decide to use it. Thanks for the comment.
Zoey, please see the Build along videos. Frank is in the process of making a tutorial on how to make a plane from scratch. We will also be doing other videos as time allows us too. Thanks!
Didja run this script past an editor before filming? He might have made a change or two. Heh.
Good tips on making EPP rigid. I like the idea of using the glue/fiberglass layers to add stiffness. Less expensive than CF, and you spread the stiffening agent out instead of having the stress focused on the foam immediately around the CF pieces. How many times have you had a fiber rod poke out from an EPP wing after impact? Yee, hah!
Thanks for the comment, LOL, yeah I know I kept saying one more thing.... I kept remembering things I need to say. We pretty much just wing it, no scripts. An actually this plane I'm doing a "Free Flow Design" expirement, just making up the design as I go. No set plans. Just a basic idea and see what the end result is. Thanks again for commenting,
Thanks for the comment BrandoRc! Yes there are a lot of different options to cover foamies. It does add a little weight, but makes them so much more crash resistant. If you have not seen it yet, take a look at the Bulletproof Plane videos. It has this weave on it and has been pretty much indestructible. Anyway thanks Brando, and thanks for subscribing too. And keep up your awesome videos too. It's great how we can all share ideas and all of us get better at making models.
this is great, a buddy who builds boats has been trying to talk me into a fiberglass or carbon weave coating to reinforce my foamies. looks like you guys beat me to it, lol. at least i have an idea of where to start. great work, keep it up.
Thinking about using the Henry coated fiberglass weave on some scrap pieces of EPP and Depron 6mm sizes. 75 pounds per square inch sounds really good for thin park jets. Hope you don't mind when using a lot of yours and Franks ideas... but don't worry, I will give you guys the credit. LOL
Rokit looks like a good plan. I would love to see what you come up with, your builds always look awesome. One note be careful what adhesive you use on depron. The 3M stuff I used in the video may eat away Depron. It did on Blue core foam. The EPP it did not. Just test out whatever you use on some scrap piece first. Oh, I did see 3M had some specific Foam Glue at the craft store. Have not tried it yet. LOL thats why we share ideas, maybe you can teach us a thing or two.

Hey its Zoey again, this is close to what I mean, but it doesnt show how to build the plane itself...
