I usually have to hear others give the stuff he's been doing lately good reviews b4 I bother watching. Some of his stuff with bikes lately isn't all that good. He seems to be trying too hard to build a rep within the global ADV riding community. I know many of those guys like the exposure he brings but they know he's kind of a candy ass.
A candy ass? The man rode through Mongolia and then up the road of bones. Not to mention the Race to Dakar series in which he finished a stage after breaking one hand and dislocating a finger on the other. He's a bonafide hardass.
If u follow the ADV riding community & are familiar with the riders therein, you'll know that what Charlie does isn't at all uncommon. The only difference is it's widely known because of the camera crew he had with him. To those who know, he ain't no hardass. I don't want to diminish what he's done to expose what's been going on for a long time in the ADV community :-) but please don't tell me he's a hardass. Because he isn't, he just plays one on TV ;-)
I respect your opinion but I still disagree. I think that the people you're talking about are jealous...plain and simple. The see a man gaining notoriety by doing the same things they've been doing for years and they resent him for it. Kind of petty IMO. BTW, I think they're all hardasses-every single one of them-Charlie included.
Not everyone has a production team running around in a chase truck/van at little more than a radio call away should any 'difficulties' arise ;-) not to mention 2 other guys riding with u to help at all times [which is good actually & recommended]
& yes his injuries were real but also again, not at all uncommon.
There are guys in the ADV riding community whose experiences & accomplishments really do make Charlie look like a candyass. But like I said they aren't widely known. So my point of reference may be a bit different than yours. No big deal really.

No one resents Boorman for what he's done (least of all ADV riders or me). He's exposed a world that was previously mainly shared/known about thru the internet & books. He's certainly raised the profile of what ADV riders do & why they do it to the average joe at home.

I agree completely. Simply by being "one of the guys" he's gained the status of hardass in my eyes. If there's a tougher group of men on the planet I haven't come across them.
ADV riders are the "Commandos" of all riders. There are non tougher! :-)
Boorman should profile those guys if he really wants to impress folks like me. He should use his connections to show what the real deal truly is, not have a crew follow him around :-( I don't really wanna see some dude trying to emulate the guys who are the one's who truly deserve some camera time - documentary style. :-)
