@ralliart12 How Did You Get That Boot Logo? My Boot Logo Is Just A Loading Bar With Nothing On It And By The Way, My Operating System Is Windows 7 Home Premium.
Microsoft has decided that to be allowed to sell a computer with XPH or W7S it has to be a netbook by their definition, which means max 1GB RAM (and 160GB/250GB HD). So HP just state this, although it's works just fine with 2GB (HP's own 2GB editions have other Windows versions).
@soilheart Yup, I've read you're right about the MS's restriction on the RAM, though it's the 1st time I've heard them imposing a restriction on HDD capacity as well. Anything more, have to be an after-market distro- or user manual upgrade.
Hi Schaltza, the successor to this model, the 5102, still has NO Ion graphics chip and they simply refresh the processor to the newer N450 & give the option of having a full touchscreen & load up Win7 Starter Ed. by default as well.
Can you tell me how noisy this netbook is? I've read that the fan is constantly active and noticable? What is your experience? And do you have any idea if it comes with W7?
I think this really is the best netbook atm, agree?
The noticeable fan activity was toned down on the latest BIOS firmware, F.02, released by HP a few days back. A BIOS-flashign demo will be released by me by tml. Netbooks may begin shipping with Win7 Starter Ed. in a few wks' time, but I doubt they will ship with Win7Pro.
Btw, Allaar90, if you are very concerned abt fan activity & heat (along the base), I will say it will be noticeable on this model (I dun wanna give u any false hope). As for whether it is the best model, I believe if u dun mind the slower HDD, lack of Wireless-N and larger formfactor, I will advise you to go for the HP 311. It has the nVidia ION LE ship and even though it is "LE", the graphics performance it deals out is very kickass. Not to mention its battery life is better than 5101 by a bit.
Ok! Thnx, but I found out that the versions with the 1366x768 screens can't be upgraded to 2Gb RAM.. I'm going to buy the Samsung N510 with 250Gb, windows7 and a better batterylife.
That's amazing! But windows 7 costs over 200 USD and that's too much for me. We have the same netbook but mine is on XP. I got mine about two weeks ago and it requires Office 2007 Product Key to activate it. I cannot find it? Is it somewhere on the machine or on the box? Also I tired playing a DVD video and it doesn't play, asking for DVD decorder or something. Do I have to buy these all? I don't know anything about these so please let me know of how to deal with these.
I got my Win7Pro free from MSDN Academic Alliance. The Office 2007 installed on ur system is a 60-day trial; to use it fully unlimited continuously you have to purchase an Office 2007 license. Systems purchased outside rarely come packaged with a full license of MS Office; likely those laptops that one buys in schools will have MS Office bundled.
Perhaps you like to try launching Windows Media Player to playback your DVD?
Actually I timed my unit while it's on XP and then again when it's on Win7Pro; I discovered while Win7Pro takes only slightly longer to boot than XP, it is immediately usable upon the desktop showing.
Whereas for XP, even if the desktop showing, you have to wait for things to start getting responsive.
do you know how to upgrade windows 7 starter to professional

The HP Mini 5101 is a netbook.

So the hp mini isn't just a windows 7 startup its also installed or is that a seperate accessory added ?

@SGStudios13
I don't tink the experience will be pleasant. In fact, even running Windows 7 Pro on 1GB RAM, on an Atom machine, may prove to be unpleasant.

About the max RAM-question:

Hi curlyhot15, after a few months, the performance of Win7Pro on my machine, still appears adequate. So, no worries & put Win7 on it =)

Does anyone know if they are going to build a 5101 model / or a successor with Ion graphics and when is it coming out?

What version is it you have?
Allaar90 2 years ago
