The tape is almost NEVER hiding anything, its just for the set and forget pedals or the tone knob as it tends to be in the middle and above the button so its easy to fuck your sound up and not even realize it. NOTHING SUCKS MORE THAN CHECKING GEAR AFTER A SHOW AND YOU REALIZE YOU WEREN"T EVEN REALLY ON YOUR OWN SETTINGS. Mainly my amp heads but now its a FIRST CHECK, I don't like drawing on vintage fenders and Marshalls otherwise I would mark my spots.
Very cool sounds he has going on, and super tight player from the few little riffs he plays. I never knew Maroon 5 had such talent in the band. Maybe Ill have to listen to an album. Maybe..... Maybe.................. (probably not)
This was really cool not a maroon 5 fan but his pedal board is sick , glad he asked about the zakk wah i thought that was odd myself , lol sidenote this dude looks like taylor hawkins long lost brother
True bypass doesn't touch the signal when the pedal's off, meaning it add's 3 feet of cable for every pedal that's off (or whatever the length of your cable is)
I find it amazing that he doesn't want a "firm" previously set up "Maroon 5" rig, but a flexible one, that allows him to shape his tone according to the room/venue/crowd... he really takes his role seriously and enjoys playing guitar. I't nice to see there are still guitar players out there who are able to stay human, and not night-to-night robots.
I love when the Artist does the tour. But I also like when people know what they are talking about, many artists say, "This is what we have, but I have no idea why." So this was a great video, it had everything.
Ya know, I'm not blown away by his playing or his rig, but dang. This guy is patient and down to earth. He takes his time and he doesn't just BS and hurry through the interview. Cool.
Very good job, excellent job with that rig rundown I learned so much from this video!... He's not as pretty as Rebecca Dirks but his ninja-like interviewing skills made up for that... Ha ha!... Great job guys!!!
I didnt notice a compressor, did I miss it, and or what type. Also I know a couple of turing guitar players and I think they both would help a person all they could to get better, if they had the time, settings and all.
What is the interviewer talking about when he says "people accuse artist of taping up settings" ? Ive never hear that, and what would be wrong with saving a setting on a knob by taping it in place ?
@guitaristguy20 Thanks for watching the video -- the interviewer was referring to the fact that fans often accuse artists of taping up their stompbox settings/controls to supposedly hide their tone secrets, but obviously, with James and many touring guitarists, functionality and security is the reason.
He's wearing toms... yuck. This is 18 minutes of ugly shoes.

i think the guy from PG shoul've noticed the Line 6 has a mod.... i wonder what mod he has? maybe keeley// since he has a lot of his gear too.
topicrass 2 days ago
@topicrass Yeah I noticed the blue LED's on the DL-4 as well. Most likely the Keeley mod that fixes the volume drop.

True bypass? Signal loss? yeah, that's the point.
True bypass doesn't touch the signal when the pedal's off, meaning it add's 3 feet of cable for every pedal that's off (or whatever the length of your cable is)
True Bypass doesn't always equal better
