It's single player or multiplayer. I'd be surprised if anybody still plays it online though. Single player is very good and will keep you occupied for many hours. It's an old game so don't expect modern graphics.

I continue to be pleasantly surprised by the number of views and comments that this Bet on Soldier: Bloodsport video still gets, four years after it was uploaded. It's a shame that the game and its equally excellent expansions got so little exposure and publicity when they were released.

@csipcgaRob Games like these are slower and harder than fast-paced pick-up-and-play shooters of today. This kind of shooter was one of the casualties of gaming's "casual revolution." Much too bad.

I don't know if it will work on Windows 7/Vista. I don't see why it wouldn't though. Lots of games older than BoS work on Win 7. There's also the "compatibility" mode option, although I'm not sure you would need that. BoS games do have the early Starforce DRM though, so I don't know if that would be a problem.

Just started playing through this...having fun, despite some bad reviews from the release era.

This game has one of my top 5 FPS-sniper-rifle setups, too; you can pretty much perform surgery with the ones in BoS. No zoom 'sway' and being able to put the crosshair on a dude's ear sitcking out from behind a corner and hit it may not be realistic, but it's totally satisfying :D

SCREW every 'Champion' that has blinding weapons or those that go view-screwing grenade-happy, though :P

Yes that was me playing in the clip. At the time I didn't realise that reloading emptied out a clip and wasted any remaining bullets. I never had any problems with money to buy more ammo, repairs, or purchase a Mercenary or two though. The reloading thing is a habit ingrained in me through years and years of playing online PvP shooters.

The BoS games were very good though and I keep on thinking about replaying them. I'd be very happy to see a modern Bet on Soldier made as well.

Both Blood of Sahara and Blackout Saigon are available in English versions (with Starforce protection unfortunately). I bought the DVD versions from Ebay but Gamersgate has both expansions available for Digital Download .

Oh the memories... I actually liked this game very much, even if it was buggy like hell without the first 350mb (!) patch and was full of flaws. Stripping an enemy of his armor and then blow him up with a grenade was strangely satisfying.

I really enjoyed this game too, as well as Blackout Saigon and Blood of Sahra. I liked the whole "Iron Storm" look and feel of the games. I think they would have been more popular had they not had the dreadful Starforce DRM

@csipcgaRob Yes, I think the look and feel of BoS was rather unique, it really has that "deep in the trenches" feeling most of the time. And I think the DRM was one reason it was not very popular, the 2nd was the game was buggy. At least the german version was not even playable before the first patch since you already got stuck in the first mission. Anyway, I just installed Blood... after watching your vid, it made me want to play it again and it still is fun. Can´t find my BoS dvd though. :(

I used to reload often here in the beginning (habit from cs), but here.. if you reload after firing few rounds you basically waste all those bullets in your clip.

Yes it has a storyline. It's a decent single player experience if you like FPS's. I don't think anybody plays it online anymore. The single player game is pretty long too which pleased me.

The money can be used to buy better weapons and armour and to hire NPC "Mercs". The NPC's are very handy as they have different combat skills. I used the engineer a lot because he repairs your armour. You have to keep them alive theough. Once they're dead, they're gone until the next campaign.

When I shot that footage I was using an a P4 3.0GHZ with an X1800XL 256MB All-In-Wonder. Hardly top of the range CPU and video card. The game was played at 1280 x 1024 with 8 x AF and 4 x AA. All graphics options were set to maximum. It was as smooth as butter. If you're struggling to play it on a modern PC then there's something wrong with your drivers.

i went to a video game store with my mate and we got a game each. it was buy 2 get 1 free so we got BoS with both expansions. At first the shiny faces and lame physics were a bit dissuasive but then i started to find the game real cool. Shame theres no servers....I love going blind noob in heavy armor with dual uzis, chaingun, acid and flash with a rocket launcher in slot 3. Hell that was the longest comment ive made since Chris Crocker hit youtube :S

Two things:

1. Why does the main character sound like an asthmatic when running around a lot?

2. There are 40 different weapons to choose from, yet why do all of them in each of their categories look all the same with more ammo of better accuracy or stability?

I can't disagree with those comments. All in all though, I quite like the game. I'd be happy to see more games made in the BoS universe, preferabbly without the challenge matches though.

Sometimes the better models have more abilities than the previous ones did. The best pistol has auto-firing, the better commando rifles can blind someone with the secondary fire, the best warshotgun can fire all barrels at once, etc.

I preferred using a gasthrower/commando rifle/automatic pistol combination myself.

And the better assault rifles fire grenades (except the better Nixens, which fire shotguns), the best sniper rifle has hallucinoginen bullets which distort the enemies' vision, the best "Gasthrower" (flamethrower) fires all three gases, and the better "machineguns" (miniguns) have a cooler which lets you fire the minigun longer while having the cooler active.

Oh come on guys! Why do people rate this game so negatively? I bought the game included with v1.2 patch, and I found mostly no bugs. Well, sure some of the game flaws are rather irritating, but the action keeps me focused on the game and less on the goofs. Surely you can say it gets repetitive after awhile, but it's mostly new stuff, new battles and new equipment to unlock. I find this game rather fun, and one of the best I've played. But oh well, thats just me and my stupid extra long comments.

It's a shame that Kylotonn made such a mess of the Blood of Sahara and Blackout Saigon expansions. The Original BoS game was rather overlooked in my opinion. Blood of Sahara was OK apart from the dreadful voice-overs. It just very, very short.

No headshots in Blackout Saigon. Crap voices and braindead AI.
