Word. I read a lot of people on the internet, saying a 600 would be too wild for starting out. But when I talked to many people in person, the opinions get shifted around. I personally will be starting out with a used Yamaha R6 after proper safety classes and taking steps on getting accustomed with the bike and then later on trade it in for a R1. I know for a fact going to a R1 is crazy, but fuck going through many bikes, I personally would be content starting out w/ 600
@HypermaxZ well all you need is so skill with a bike and respect for the bike becuz im 14 and ride a 1998 honda superhawk 996...so its a 1000cc and i have never crashed it or layed it down in anyway
Thanks for the tips everyone. Unfortunately I already got the Busa and i'm taking it easy but I quickly found out it's not the bike I have to worry about but the other drivers in cars that pose the biggest risk. @antoniovese75 Does it really matter if you look stupid? A 600 from a decade ago is twice the size of a modern litre bike anyway and a much better starter bike, big bikes arent dangerous, yes they will punish you more quickly than a smaller bike but a high side is a high side, big bikes let you get away with being a shit rider, you have to work an r6 to go fast, an r1 will make you look fast if you coast through the corner, gun it down the straights and leave it in 6th all the time....
@antoniovese75 A litre bike can turn a skilled rider into a lazy rider with poor technique, imagine what youll end up like with no experience? get an old cbr600f or something similar, bigger than the latest litres and requires a bit more skill to ride fast.

250's are great beginner bikes, you forgot to mention that. Just giving people advice about 600's and 1000's is kind of stupid, if youre trying to give tips.
lol all the noobs saying "R1 is the best" probably dont even have a sportbike. There is no bike that is BEST!!! Each company makes a bike that fits each person differently. For example, i think the CBR600rr is the best bike becuase it it very comfortable and fun to ride. Yet my good buddy thinks his GSXR-600 is the best on the market. Each bike has a different rider...

Then I would be soo worried about hurting my 2007 baby... and I'd be able to "comfortably" learn riding in general.. other than that I'm just way way careful!!! it could easily kill you !!
I had a CBR 125 for a year and a half then got sick of it and bought a K6 GSXR-1000 And i am soooo happy i did! As long as you don't go crazy off the hop, any size bike can be a good one to learn on. Obviously the smaller the cc the easier to learn but its all in respect to the throttle.
"starting out on a one thousand isn't a good idea unless you've been riding awhile"... because we all know you can ride for a while, and THEN be a starter. choad smoker, agreed
Don't be a hater now, but I'm just a kid, and i have plans on getting a motorcycle license. Could someone give me some tips on streetbike that I eventually after a lot of practise also could use for stunting? is a speed triple an okay bike to start with? thx
im 17 and want a bike liscence, in the UK you cant just get a speed triple or any bike over 125cc (33bhp) until youve passed your test with it and ridden it a couple of years. Then u can upgrade to anything up to a 250cc then pass another test- then at 21 you can take your full bike liscence- anything you want. A speed triple is a 600cc plus bike so no, not as your first. Unless u want to not ride it on the roads and kill uourself learning on it....
you have a few mistakes there. after the cbf before your test you are limited to 125cc (no bhp or kWh limit on 125) then after your test you are limited to 25kWh or 34bhp for 2 years, if you are 21+ before this period passes then you can do the DAS and ride unrestricted.
my first bike ever was a lil ttr 125 four stroke trail bike. and then i hoped on my dad's friend's katana 600. and i would ride my friends 00' gixxer 600 around town all the time. not too scary, but hey i have good throttle control . so with that being said. im going to buy a bike this dec or jan, and im really looking in on the cbr 600 f2 or f3s . i dont think i should have a prob.
i need sum help ive been riding dirt bikes for a few years so im not new to the motorcycle world but i would like sum help on knowing what a good starter sports bike is
lol probably not, if u dont know how to control yourself good in a 600 you are dead for sure, sorry being tragic but even though in any bike you could die but this just increases the chance of you to die, more power = more speed = harder crash lol probably should start on a 250 in my opinion
if you have never riden a superbike or just a newbie to powered bikes in general (never ridden an atv,mx,) should probably never start on a 600, too dangerous, also not saying that you need XP riding in offroad vehicles, just saying because riding on road and dirt is really different : /
I think Freddy cougar weres the same shirt in all his videos. I saw him wearing that shirt in a how to shot a rifle video and how to shoot a .45. What a douche...
i did it this way and it worked pretty well, 1st bike was vfr 400 nc30, after 8 months got my 600 gsxr and its immense i love it, yeah 600's are really great cant wait to try a 1000 though
i have to dissagree ive had both now but thik quality is exactly the same quality now. you statement is a very generalised view taken by many bikers which was born around 25 years ago. the only manufacturer i think in the 600 class which aint as great is the paint on triumph daytona 675's of around 2004-2006 which now is great
colbytheghost i suggest any 4 banger, as a vtwin doesnt like doing wheelies, not good oil flow to 1st cylinder, something fairly light weight, like a 600 probably, 250s i think are a joke but thats all i can help you with i think.
well a used tire is kinda dumb but whatever, a used tire wouls already be scrubbed in, alot of accidents happen cause of new tires, and you need to heat up tires to get good cornering, a cold tire is more slippery.
new tires need to get broken (scrubbed in) they are slippery like they have oil. not really oil, like theres wax or sumthin from factory you need to wear this shit off by doin slow corners.....
Okay, so here's my question: whats a good bike to get if I want to practice stunts at some point? I want to learn how to ride a bike very well before even attempting to do so, however I'm just wondering what older year model bikes that can be had for cheap are good for begginers.
I stated off dirt biking, went and bought a 1000cc for my first bike, yea 2004 sv1000s. woo but yea i dont suggest it, almost died, becareful of new tires if you r inexperienced..
Are we serious with the comment wars? Really?!? Someone totally missed the point of the video. I appreciated it that for sure. It doesn't matter what you ride as long as you ride. Assholes like the elitist sport bike pricks ruin it, and you wonder why old M.C.'s won't wave to us on the highways.
lol hey can some body help me im just getting into sport bikes and i have never rid a sports bike before and im wondering whats a good standard sports bike, one that will go damn fast when i want it to, but one you can just cruise around with too. plz reply or message me! and dont be some NOOB!
chosing a bike is all about the size of the rider. a guy thats 6'5 and 300lbs needs more than a fucking 600. a 600 will bust your ass just as quick as a bussa or a zx14 if you dont pay attention and respect it.
I agree at that size you'll grow into a 600 in about 6 months and end up spending more money to upgrade. But if you know your a speed junkie GET A 600! better safe then sorry. But if you can respect the bike and know it CAN kill you then thats a differnt story. BUT ANY SIZE BIKE CAN KILL YOU ALWAYS REMINBER THAT. Its the rider not the bike.
well I started on a 1000 Im about 6 4 and 250 pounds I just took it VERY easy on the gas and grew into it in about a good year I still dont ride it to hard but thats just me
Depends on what you want to do with the bike. My first bike was a CBR600, becasue i commute in city alot and occasionally go on motorways its ideal for me. Sometimes i do wish i had a smaller bike in the city but ill be eating dust on the motorway.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
o shut up man u dont no shit man im 16 and iv been riding a 2001 yamaha r1 and i took a class for a day and learned on a 250 and i jumped to a 1000 and its easy no one listen to this guy ,if you wanna get a 1000 for ur first do it there better then 600 this guy doesnt no what hes talkin about!!!!!
it depends on what you want to do , id rather have a 600 unless im on the freeway. its lighter , more agile , somewhat quicker off the line. 1000s are dangerous in the corners if you dont know what your doing.
For a newbie with no throttle control, no balance and a bad perception of speed, a 600 can be a deathwish, let alone a 1000. That said, damn they're fun.
I'm 16 too and i ride a '05 yamaha r6. But this guys give some good pointers about choosing a sport bike. ur 16 ur still an inexperience rider ok. Anyone who rides a motorcycle can ride a 1000, it's if you can handle it on the track at top speed is any other question
thats the gayest shit i've ever heard. a 250 isn't a sport bike at all, it doesnt even come with sport suspension or siutable tires for high speed. its a city bike, made for putting around. to imply you have a huge cock because you have a little kid bike is stupid.
you faggots and all your computer geek lingo....'noob'? and i fail at what? fucking your mom in her ass and then making her lick her shit off my cock? no. i passed that one. a cbr250rr is a little 70hp city bike, made for good gas miliage and such. it doesnt come with any performance enhancements at all, it just has ferrings to look cool. go fuck yourself.
You're stupid. Don't tell people to jump to a 1000cc. I hope you down your stupid r1 without gear on. Cause God knows your a newbie and don't know anything about protection. Fuckn squid! Ride safe everyone and wear your leathers!!!
im 17 and a senior in high school and i got my first bike 3 weeks ago. went out and bought a 01 kawasaki zx900 for 2000. only thing i had before that was a lil 80 honda dirtbike.
man. this was the best thing ever. i so enjoy riding this bike. charleston south carolina riders hit me up. lets go out.
@king81477 your a dumbass! and it is because of people like you that sport bike riders get a bad rep. The only advice you need is not to get one because you will kill yourself on it.
well for me i just got my firs bike i bought the gsxr 750 2008 it came with a mode control A B & C that u can adjust how much power u want so i started out on the C mode which give u less power an as u get more comfortable u can increase the power of the bike
thats a new feature for that bike and im pretty certain no one else has nething like it heard it was kinda cool specially in traffic and such my friend said it was nice to dial it down in C so he didnt haft try so hard to go slow lol
I have been riding sportbikes for the past 12 years and road racing for the past 5 and I would never recommend a brand new bike as a first street bike because you ARE going to lay it down. That said the bike you picked is perfect for a first sport bike.
I have a dirt bike so I won't be a squid no doubt.I've been riding dirt bikes for at least 2 and a half years now so no noob here to riding a bike. I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.
No, no... I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I didn't understand that you had ridden before although I still would not recommend a brand new bike as a first street bike. Chances are you are still going to drop it at some point very early on; the difference between the dirt and the street is pretty drastic. The SV650 is one of the best to start on.
I agree. Currently on the SV650s, mostly round the city. Still can hit 130+ mph when tuned right. Light and agile round the streets, and ideal for little twisty country lanes. Great mid-range power. For me will wheelie easily 1st through to 3rd, and can do a stoppie so still good enough for those tricks. Can leave other bigger bikes behind with decent tires on through narrow twisty roads, and through the proper traffic I've left the mopeds behind.
I currently own a 2002 SV650S and I couldn't agree more. The bike isn't overloaded with power so it's not so daunting for a beginner yet it has enough to it to satisfy almost any type of rider. The handling is almost perfect and the comfort level is unrivaled in it's class of bikes.
I would recommend this an SV for anyone that is looking to ride but hasn't made the commitment yet. It will change your life folks!
Damn I totally fucked my spelling up on that last post sorry... Someone's going balled! Lol... I've been riding bikes all my life; I started at 5 and I'm now turning 18 in a few months. Choosing a bike that fits you isn't about physical likings or fittings. What most people don't understand is you have to mentally accept the bike to truly love the bike you have.
Someone's going balled! Lol... I've been riding bikes all my life; I started at 5 and I'm now turning 18 in a few months. Choosing a bike that fits you isn't aout physical likings or fittings. What most people don't understand is you have to mentally except the bike to truly love te bike you have.
Also, get the best gear you can possibly buy for money. Don't get a crappy helmet because you spent everything on your bike. Don't ride in t-shirts just because it's a hot summer's day... Those people are called "donors".
I've been trying out 500's and 650's and the 500's I tried (from Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki) felt a bit weak. I ended up getting a Kawa 650 as my first bike. A little extra power doesn't hurt - only stupid driving does.
Get a 250 or a 500, 600 is usually too powerful for beginners. I have a ninja ex 500 and it's plenty fast, but light and not too powerful, and really light. Starting out on an r6 is whack anyway, you don't want a nice bike to start off with in case you drop it, which is likely to happen. Master riding skills on a beginner bike first, then get a nice one. This Chad dude is nerdy.
Well im taking a motorcycle safteycourse and plan on buying a r6 as my first bike. i thought of having a 250 nija first but everyone said i would get rid of it too fast so just go with the 600cc's am i wrong?
I started on a Night Hawk 400, wich I rode as my only mode of tranportation for two years. My first sport bike was a FZR 600. I nearly did a endo over the bars, pulling away from the dealership, Followed imediatly by doing an un-intensional wheely. Even with experience a 600cc crotch rocket is dangerous. It took me two weeks to adjust to the performance difference. Take a motorcycle saftey course. Take you time getting used to the 'breed,' dont be a squid, (noob). You'll just make us look bad.
thanks mudphud99 i got a ninja 2 days ago its perfect i only downed it once just because it was to heavy but now its good im tring to stay alive so a 250 was great rather than a 1,000 or 600 im not raceing or anything.
what would be a good one to start with like would a 250 work also sportbikes seem to have weird handel bars cuz you need to lean over the tank i have only had a honda rebel so im new to sportbikes i just think im going for it
The ninja 250 is a good bike. The GS500 is also a good bike to consider. Don't listen to those that say to start at 600/gixxer/R1. There are a lot of good reasons to start off with a tame bike, such as staying alive. Also there is a decent chance you will damage it so don't spend too much.
Sure you might not be super fast in straight line (squid) but you will learn better. Of course if you have a small endowment and have to compensate with a fast motorcycle get a R1 as your first bike.
i guess im not a pussy cause im doin just fine starting with an R1. it was kinda heavy at first but theres nothing to it, just gotta go for it. but yeah i know what you mean. staying under the speed limits is the hardest part.
boy, "see what feels good...what you want.. and size". Let's give this cat a ribbon. i was gonna go to the dealer with my thumb up my ass and a blindfold on. Thank God this failed dentist made a video.
for anyone who is new to riding, i would recommend a 250 to start. my wife & i both started riding kawasaki ninja 250's in 2005, this helped us tremedously on manuvering, stopping and especially riding in traffic. in 2006 we purchased 2 gixxers (her '06 mine '05) 1000's and there is a BIG difference in power & handling. however, i can say that learning on our lil 250's was beneficial.
i am looking to by a sport bike within the next year or so (right now im 15) andi an looking to spend less then 3 grand, i have been riding dirtbikes my hole life, currently i have an xr200 and i want a street bike with a lot of power. Any ideas what i should get?
fantastic!!! i rode my friends baja, its great to have to tune the idle every other ride!!! and to start it in like 55 kicks just so it can bogg out and die!!
I'm doing great on my new 2008 1098s Ducati. My first street bike, I took the rider safety course and some weekend riding on a rental in a parking lot aside that nothing, Ive put over 700 mile on it thus far no problems.... do a search " 2008 1098 " thats me with the red Ducati picking it up.
im pretty newb and planning to get a motorcycle. im getting this brand new 2008 kawasaki ninja 250r costs $3499 brand new, its the smallest, slowest, cheapest sport bike u can find i think thats brand new. 249cc is enough for me, just to be riding dirty!!! lol
Start on a 600. I rode a 94 cbr 600 for a year, got used to the power then picked up an 04 yamaha R1..beautiful bike, handles perfect and has plenty of power. Wheelies in every gear!
dude, im thinking about an older f4i. rode all my life, thing is i dont want to get raped with insurance and stuff. how much did you pay per month on your cbr?? is it stupid to get a 600 @ 18??
friend had a CBR600 and he's 5'6". I had a ZX7R and I'm 6'2". He fit his bike great, but on mine it was funny to watch him rock back and forth on tip toes to keep balance and practically lay his stomach on the gas tank to reach the grips. When I sat on his it felt like I was too straight up. I could ride his well enough, though it didn't feel natural. He could not ride mine. Sit on them at the store and make sure everything is within comfortable reach and you're not overextending yourself.
Now by saying "had" I'm assuming you got rid of the bike. What's youre personal opinion on the ZX7R? Did you like it? was it a good bike to start off with it?
Was a 96 and HEAVY. The newer 600-750's have shaved nearly 100 pounds off the dry weight. Even the 1000's are about 60lb lighter than my old ZX7R. I went ahead and stepped up to a liter bike this time.
I would not learn on a 750. It's a lot of weight and power to have a mishap with and a expensive if you drop it. Bike schools put you with 125-250cc which is great to learn with, but you'll probably get tired of it quickly. I'd find a deal for a USED bike in that size and not care what it looks like. Then sell it to another beginner when you're ready to step up.
are they just calling everyone an "expert" now? I guess that makes me an "expert" troll

you have a few mistakes there. after the cbf before your test you are limited to 125cc (no bhp or kWh limit on 125) then after your test you are limited to 25kWh or 34bhp for 2 years, if you are 21+ before this period passes then you can do the DAS and ride unrestricted.

buy a street bike that you want to ride and then get a cheap piece of crap to crash when you try stunting.

my first bike ever was a lil ttr 125 four stroke trail bike. and then i hoped on my dad's friend's katana 600. and i would ride my friends 00' gixxer 600 around town all the time. not too scary, but hey i have good throttle control . so with that being said. im going to buy a bike this dec or jan, and im really looking in on the cbr 600 f2 or f3s . i dont think i should have a prob.

supergamerocks 2 years ago
hey, is a honda CBR600RR a good bike for starters?
45Mang 2 years ago
lol probably not, if u dont know how to control yourself good in a 600 you are dead for sure, sorry being tragic but even though in any bike you could die but this just increases the chance of you to die, more power = more speed = harder crash lol probably should start on a 250 in my opinion
supergamerocks 2 years ago
if you have never riden a superbike or just a newbie to powered bikes in general (never ridden an atv,mx,) should probably never start on a 600, too dangerous, also not saying that you need XP riding in offroad vehicles, just saying because riding on road and dirt is really different : /
and a bike is meant for speed!!!!!!
supergamerocks 2 years ago
what do you suggest?

i did it this way and it worked pretty well, 1st bike was vfr 400 nc30, after 8 months got my 600 gsxr and its immense i love it, yeah 600's are really great cant wait to try a 1000 though

Suzuki are very good bikes but I prefer Honda because it's better quality.
nintendo007 2 years ago 8
i have to dissagree ive had both now but thik quality is exactly the same quality now. you statement is a very generalised view taken by many bikers which was born around 25 years ago. the only manufacturer i think in the 600 class which aint as great is the paint on triumph daytona 675's of around 2004-2006 which now is great

colbytheghost i suggest any 4 banger, as a vtwin doesnt like doing wheelies, not good oil flow to 1st cylinder, something fairly light weight, like a 600 probably, 250s i think are a joke but thats all i can help you with i think.
socool666420bc 2 years ago
well a used tire is kinda dumb but whatever, a used tire wouls already be scrubbed in, alot of accidents happen cause of new tires, and you need to heat up tires to get good cornering, a cold tire is more slippery.
socool666420bc 2 years ago
new tires need to get broken (scrubbed in) they are slippery like they have oil. not really oil, like theres wax or sumthin from factory you need to wear this shit off by doin slow corners.....

chosing a bike is all about the size of the rider. a guy thats 6'5 and 300lbs needs more than a fucking 600. a 600 will bust your ass just as quick as a bussa or a zx14 if you dont pay attention and respect it.
licmy3balls 3 years ago
I agree at that size you'll grow into a 600 in about 6 months and end up spending more money to upgrade. But if you know your a speed junkie GET A 600! better safe then sorry. But if you can respect the bike and know it CAN kill you then thats a differnt story. BUT ANY SIZE BIKE CAN KILL YOU ALWAYS REMINBER THAT. Its the rider not the bike.

portugue100 3 years ago
it depends on what you want to do , id rather have a 600 unless im on the freeway. its lighter , more agile , somewhat quicker off the line. 1000s are dangerous in the corners if you dont know what your doing.
Orion16x 3 years ago 2
For a newbie with no throttle control, no balance and a bad perception of speed, a 600 can be a deathwish, let alone a 1000. That said, damn they're fun.

thats the gayest shit i've ever heard. a 250 isn't a sport bike at all, it doesnt even come with sport suspension or siutable tires for high speed. its a city bike, made for putting around. to imply you have a huge cock because you have a little kid bike is stupid.

1reggiebushfan 3 years ago
I have been riding sportbikes for the past 12 years and road racing for the past 5 and I would never recommend a brand new bike as a first street bike because you ARE going to lay it down. That said the bike you picked is perfect for a first sport bike.

I have a dirt bike so I won't be a squid no doubt.I've been riding dirt bikes for at least 2 and a half years now so no noob here to riding a bike. I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not.
1reggiebushfan 3 years ago
No, no... I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I didn't understand that you had ridden before although I still would not recommend a brand new bike as a first street bike. Chances are you are still going to drop it at some point very early on; the difference between the dirt and the street is pretty drastic. The SV650 is one of the best to start on.
joeshwa24 3 years ago 2
Thanks for the info Joesha24
1reggiebushfan 3 years ago
Can leave other bigger bikes behind with decent tires on through narrow twisty roads, and through the proper traffic I've left the mopeds behind.
pranky0607 2 years ago

A little extra power doesn't hurt - only stupid driving does.
bongolongo 3 years ago

alexdrums90 3 years ago
Get a 250 or a 500, 600 is usually too powerful for beginners. I have a ninja ex 500 and it's plenty fast, but light and not too powerful, and really light. Starting out on an r6 is whack anyway, you don't want a nice bike to start off with in case you drop it, which is likely to happen. Master riding skills on a beginner bike first, then get a nice one. This Chad dude is nerdy.
woooooosha 3 years ago

I started on a Night Hawk 400, wich I rode as my only mode of tranportation for two years. My first sport bike was a FZR 600. I nearly did a endo over the bars, pulling away from the dealership, Followed imediatly by doing an un-intensional wheely. Even with experience a 600cc crotch rocket is dangerous. It took me two weeks to adjust to the performance difference. Take a motorcycle saftey course. Take you time getting used to the 'breed,' dont be a squid, (noob). You'll just make us look bad.

Of course if you have a small endowment and have to compensate with a fast motorcycle get a R1 as your first bike.

williamomac 4 years ago
friend had a CBR600 and he's 5'6". Sit on them at the store and make sure everything is within comfortable reach and you're not overextending yourself.
cybercannon 4 years ago
Ok thanks
williamomac 4 years ago
Now by saying "had" I'm assuming you got rid of the bike. What's youre personal opinion on the ZX7R? Did you like it? was it a good bike to start off with it?
lazarus0fjudea 4 years ago
Was a 96 and HEAVY. The newer 600-750's have shaved nearly 100 pounds off the dry weight. Even the 1000's are about 60lb lighter than my old ZX7R. I went ahead and stepped up to a liter bike this time.
cybercannon 4 years ago
I would not learn on a 750. It's a lot of weight and power to have a mishap with and a expensive if you drop it. Bike schools put you with 125-250cc which is great to learn with, but you'll probably get tired of it quickly. I'd find a deal for a USED bike in that size and not care what it looks like. Then sell it to another beginner when you're ready to step up.
cybercannon 4 years ago
