Other people know that Japan had already made advances to unconditional surrender and were rebuffed. The nuking of Hiroshima & Nagasaki was to let Stalin know that he was beat (for the moment)and to keep his hands of certain parts of Europe as he had previously ageed to.
The bombing of Hiroshoma (manufacturing center) and Nagasaki (military port) were not war crimes, nor is your assertion that the Japanese were trying to surrender unconditionally at that point correct.
