Zelda Wind Waker Intro Video

Someone I talked to once thought that this game happened in the Child Timeline.

I said "Actually, I think this game is meant to tell what happened after Ocarina of Time Link defeated Ganondorf who was sealed in the Sacred Realm by the 6 Sages & Princess Zelda who made Link disappear (to relive his childhood)."

I actually used to think Twilight Princess came before this in the Adult Timeline, but now I agree with most people that it's in the Child Timeline following Majora's Mask.

@uzimakiking I think the whole idea of Legend of Zelda is it's less a series and more a collection of legends passed down through Hyrule. Of course, a few of the games have direct sequels, but most are supposed to be different versions of the same legend. That's just my opinion, though, I really don't want to start a time line argument! :-)

The legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is the coolest zelda game. The others are nice too, but this one is the best.

Basically, OOT split it into two timelines: the one led by Wind Waker, and the one led by Twilight Princess (two very good games). Ironically, though Twilight Princess is considered a darker game, the history of Hyrule is far more tragic in Wind Waker. Skyward Sword, being a prequel to much of the series (due to showing the origins of the Master Sword) is not subject to either. Also, the style that blends Twilight Princess' details with WW cel-shading may intentionally mix the two timelines.

They are talking about OoT Link who was the "hero of time" and when he didn't show up again that is because Zelda sent him back in time and he went to Termina. Now the future with adult Zelda and no Link is where Wind Waker begins because Ganon floods everything. Just wanted to clear that up...

There is also the fact that it is uncertain how much time elapsed from the moment Link sealed Ganon away in Ocarina of Time until the seal was broken and Ganon returned to destroy Hyrule. Besides Link from WW is a descendant of the original Link. Zelda Twilight Princess takes place after Majora's Mask as well.

If we consider the parallel-timeline theory, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker exist in different worlds.

When Link was sent back to his childhood by Zelda, he warned the world about Ganondorf, thus the sages tried to execyte him (Twilight Princess). However, in the world of 'adult Link' Ganondorf returned, and because Zelda sent him back to his own time, Link could not save them. Thus the Gods flooded Hyrule.
