  • to whoever made this video thank you i know how much work 3d modelling is so this must have taken a while but the end result it great. ty

  • this makes learning about cars so much easier

  • This is the best video I have seen yet about how an Engine works. This was great man. Great video!!!

  • Nice song

  • what program is this?

  • what are the thin long blue pipes for in the engine head called and what is thier purpose

  • Very cool! especially the magically operated timing gears!

  • very cool :)

  • Great video lots of thanks for this video.

  • this is v16....

  • @JohnnySrbija15 What the hell? No it's not.

  • @inexplicable92 hahahah "no it's not"? ...repair your eyeglasses... -.-

  • @JohnnySrbija15 It's a 4 cylinder...

  • @inexplicable92 OMG o.O!? I didn't said it's a 16-cylinder...I said it's 16-valve!!!

  • @JohnnySrbija15 Ah sorry, where I come from "v" before a number indicates cylinders, i.e v6 or v8 mean they are 6 or 8 cylinders in a v formation

  • Comment removed

  • @inexplicable92 Ok...i understand you but if you want to say...Motor has..example: 8 cylinders you say that with BIG "V" and if you want to say motor has 16-valve you can said v16 with SMALL "v" ;) :))

  • @inexplicable92 you are correct, when referring to the amount of valves an engine has you would place a small "v" after the number of valves, never before.... placing a "v" before a number in reference to an engine is to indicate that the piston head formation is a V for example: v6 and V6 are the same thing..

  • @imaperson... eeeee random comment!!!

  • @inexplicable92 idiots its an in line 4 cylinder engine

  • @9885962595 I never said it wasn't?

  • Hats off!!! Great Video...!!!!

  • wow nice video! i think this is the best animation of how a car engine wokrs that i´ve ever seen!

  • Excellent video !!!

  • does anyone know what the part that the large gear at 0.58 screws onto is called. does it have something to do with the distributor? also what is that "yellow" part at 1:56? thanks! :-)

  • @awesomeluis Yellow part is knock sensor I think.

  • love this video....thank you

  • im trying to make a V6 PETROL engin in pro/e and have completed the cylinder casing, piston, crank shaft and ALMOST ALL THE other stuffs.i have done B.tech in mechanical i want to get into the automobile field, i want to complete my design and then send it to any automobile company.can any one tell me if this helps. and to whom should i send my designs to i have no idea. searching for it .. im also desgning the gearbox n the differential.. please help. al the dimnsins n clculations done by me..

  • this would be a lot more helpful if it was labeled...

  • thanks alot for the video...very educative....god is great...

  • thx for the video.... very useful

  • how does it work? what is that green stuff at 2:48

  • @averredude101

its intake air or exhaust ..... before burning and getting the power stroke or after ... to exhaust the gas^^

  • @pitbullizer90 so its air being pumped in?

  • @averredude101

yes one ventile lets air in ... the other one lets the air get out of the cylinder

  • Comment removed

  • forget the oil

  • how the fuck does someone just.... Decide to make this, thats so crazy that some guy made an engine... i mean it prolly took many trials and errors... but regardless.... GENIUS

  • cool, nice ,здорово!

  • looks line an inline 4

  • SUPER! Nareszcie mam wyobrażenie jak to może wyglądać!!

  • ВАЗ 2101 == FIAT 124

  • Что за дрянь! Собрали мотор от ВАЗ- 2101(8 клапанов), а показана работа 16 клапанного движка. Половина ролика- полный плагиат!!

  • Great video for beginners

  • Fabulous video, thanks.:)

  • amazing sound... we watched this clip in our technology lesson... and got dancing

  • This is porn music.

  • Awesome animation of an engine !!!

  • 4:50 What is this?

  • @MrGeneralRelativity Under the oil pan with the gears? That is the oil pump. The line that is traced up is the oil headed to different engine components for lubrication

  • @drifterland

    Ok

  • I guess the green cylindrical object must on the out side must be the oil filter.

  • Is that a 1935 Ford model A engine.

  • very cool. :)

  • We are Trouble engine solution

  • you person in your infinate wisdom showed me how a car engine works...thankyou because i had no fucking idea..really!!! cheers.

  • its amazing to think that engines are pushed, some pushed hard. they spin at incredible rates, and continue to work

  • so only one piston pushes at a time?

  • @MrYousafBajwa In a 4 cylinder engine only one piston fires per stroke, which is why an inline-4 will never be as smooth as an inline-6 a V8 or even a V12. The flywheel and the counterweights do smooth out the power, as does a counter-rotating balance shaft that a few large displacement inline 4s have.

  • thanks man, very helpful

    good job

  • this helped thxs.

  • song name

  • I wish you success in your studies have been nice to be appreciated

    mcmajans.com

  • Is that basin where the crank is constantly soaked in coolant oil?

  • @EzarKun Yes it's the sump and it's where the oil sits.

  • how could this come up?)))

  • is there a program for this animation engines if someone knows plz tell me

  • I am a noob.

At 1:01 what is the big gear part, I dont understand what it does?

It is involved with the thing at 4:53 which looks like a supercharger but connects to a part near the crankshaft?

Just askin, tryin to figure engines out, so interesting.

  • @lolbewbz turns the cam

  • @lolbewbz This animation is a little vague but the gear at 1:01 looks like it's a timing chain tensioner gear. This is a over head camshaft engine, meaning the cam is in the head rather than the block, so a long chain is required to link the crankshaft at the bottom to the camshaft at the top of the engine.

That “thing” at 4:53 is the oil pump. It supplies pressurized oil to all the engine’s bearings and vital wear surfaces. Hope that helps. Any other questions just let me know. I don't mind.

  • @Warblade118 Ah yes I understand now!

    Thank you very much.

I shall keep in youch with you.

  • your movie is very good!

  • NICE VIDEO. THANKS

  • 1342 move cilinder !

  • thank you!

  • hey you forgot to put rings on the piston's.

  • Nice animation, but why dont u try re-editing the video and

    put a better song?

    well, nice job anyway!

  • god damned stupid music, another clip with no voice or at least fucking text... i dont even know what are those pieces in this clip, except the ones that are specified in the first picture...

  • its's nice & well presented excepting the sound.

Some verbel speech could make it classic...........

  • porn music F T W !

  • Can you make one of these for Auto and/or Manual transmissions?

  • what is that green and white gas thing doing exactly and whats the word for it? Thanks and god bless!

  • where are Turbo and NOS.......????

  • @DaPepsinator no problem :)

  • @DaPepsinator no problem :)

  • Supprised no manufacturer has ever developed a better balancing system with modern car engines. Having 2 pistons moving in the same direction at the same time does generate a considerable amount of vibration.

  • @krehall You must see Honda's Valkyrie engine.. 6 cyl. boxer , no vibrations ot all...

  • @borgir666666 Sweet xD

  • @DaPepsinator Induction - Compression - Ignition - Exaust = 4 Stroke Cycle.

    2 Stroke - Induction/Compression - Ignition/exaust.

  • i was very distracted by the awesome music.

  • Hey man this may make it look easy but a whole overhaul or reconstruction of a engine is hard as hell man its not like putting Lego's together bro its way more difficult and Longer to do Bro!

  • where is the timing chain for the timing gears

  • I love the music! what is the name of this song?

  • Good animations, horrible music

  • It just seems that they throwing as many randoms pieces of metals as possible.

the average person doesn't care how this works, they just want a car to ride, and if it doesn't they either take it to a grease monkey or salvage it.

  • @Gutsyndicate If everyone thought like you we'd all be still living in caves.

  • very good video

  • what controls the timing of the throttles?

  • really marevlous thing

  • what motor was that at 4:07?? wow i wonder how the hell do you get the chain out of if your rebuilding the block??? wow looks hard az hell...

  • @lawnside82 my guess is it has a master link.

  • @lawnside82

A lot of motorcycle engines are like this - you split the chain ato remove it and can reconnect the links

  • @lawnside82 It's a motorbike engine.

  • @lawnside82 it's a honda motorcycle engine most likely. Honda puts the timing chain in between the cylinders on most of their air cooled motorcycle engines

  • @lawnside82 some motorcycle engines work this way. it comes out by masterlink. :)

  • @lawnside82 Cut it in half?

  • @lawnside82 That's an aircooled motorcycle engine at 4:07. The cylinder barrels are all separate so its not as difficult as it appears.

  • @lawnside82 you should not be worry about that, you will always find a mechanic who knows how to replace the time chain, but in most cases the chain will outlast the vehicle

  • @lawnside82 @ Honda CB 400 Have a similar engine

  • @lawnside82 I bet it wouldnt be that hard, probably a master link on it, access to get the chain though I would image it being pretty hard to get too according to the new engines of today, all this plastic crap covers.

  • @lawnside82 turn it over by hand until you see the split pin and whip it out i guess but iv never seen a engine like it :S

  • @lawnside82 dunno.. maybe u just have to cut and then reassemble the chain?

  • shouldn't say "car engine" thats a little too broad. should've said dual overhead piston engine. it can be used for more than a car

  • If I may correct you, it is in infact an 8v single overhead CAM configuration- SOHC (not overhead pistons) - there are not two camshafts, so not 'dual'.

But yeah... 'car engine' is a bit abstract.

  • really? i know what dohc and sohc mean. i didn't know i had to specify that i wasn't talking about the pistons. i thought if you were watching this video you would have the common sense to realize there's no such thing as "over head pistons" anyway. jesus. but yes my bad it is a single over head cam

  • its a twin cam 4 cilinder see the 4 valves in fron one cam open the exhaust and the other cam open the intakes

  • anybody know the song to this clip?

  • all this for a single push down at a time. BULLSHIT. I hate this.

  • ...as it turned out on 30'th minutes after ... :D

  • Hi all!

This is an original russian car (based on old FIAT :) LADA, aka. shiguli engine....

  • very usefull

  • diesel engine???

  • Comment removed

  • Nope

  • nope spark plugs were in the middle of the valves

  • Great video.......

  • cool video

  • anyone know of a video i can find like this where its all labeled at the same time

  • este video esta chevreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Ummmm, in 3:05, the green thing is Spark Plug, right? Should be.

  • nope, the spark plug is the black thing in the middle

  • the green thing is the fuel injector i think. the spark plug is in the middle

  • Unfortunately I thing the animation at 3:05 is misleading. Seems to show the fuel injection in the combustion cycle when it would make more sense that it happens on the air intake part to create the combustible mixture just before it compressed again. Looking at other guides seem to back me up on that. After all, the spark plug at the top isn't going to be able to ignite a chamber that's only full of compressed air surely? :-/

  • you are correct.

  • This is a safety feature, the fuel is delivered into the manifold chamber basically awaiting the valve to open, the fuel injector is closed before the valve opens in case of backfire. There are only intake and exhaust valves not air intake, fuel intake, and exhaust valves. Carbs do not work like this however, when the intake opens the piston basically sucks everything out of the carb (fuel and air) and down into the chamber.

  • @sparkit4me What happens if in a engine with a Carb backfires during the intake stroke. Do flames just shoot out of the throat burning the air filter or worse.

  • @twistedyogert Actually yes exactly right unfortunately when a mechanic is working on a running engine and this happens they can be seriously hurt.

  • if only life was this simple, they even forgot to put the chain on and had to go back and do it again ha ha

  • watching this i now undstand why timing is important

  • Lada engine! (8v) from Russia (( Italy ))

  • wats that part at 0:35?????

  • the crank shaft assembly

  • that is the crankshaft.

  • esta exelente gracias porque lo utilize para una espocicion muy importante tks

  • thanks this vid answered most of my questions

  • whats the name of that part at 0:36???

  • crankshaft

  • yeah a cranck shaft

it has the same basic use as a cam shaft except it coordinates the movements of the pistons where as a camshaft coordinates the movement of the valves.

  • Great video music was lame.

  • Fantastic vid! But, please, please, please, do sth about that music. It really is getting on my nerves & I have to turn the sound off.

  • you are an ingegnier?

  • which program you use you to make this video

  • This is fantastic! wish it had a voice over

  • what kind of tool?

  • Why are the bolts that go in at 1:48 so hard to get out?

  • what do you mean " hard to get out " ? those bolts is holding the block's together, so they have to be tight, or you might also need a special tool for each car brand if thats what you ment

  • good:D

  • This make it alot more simple

  • That was a very beautiful video to watch and a catchy tune. It's 5am here but I feel the need to get my tools out and dismantle something ! Best demo I've seen of how an Internal Combustion engine works.

  • WHAT NAME HAVE THE SONG????

  • Lada engine : )

  • коромысло как у копейки

  • excellent vid

  • wow amazing animation

  • lovely... nice job man..

  • very nice

  • who knows what software were used??? SolidWorks???

  • excellent video man thanx

  • Dude, what song is that? Please ansver
