The ancient Nabateans that carved Petera out of solid rock were so fierce a people that even the mighty Roman Empire which feared not to go into any country on Earth were extremely hesitiant to go into Nabatean territory. As to whether modern beduoin are descnded from the Nabateans and thusly, the Edomites, doubtful. God said He would wipe the Edomites from off the face of the earth without a trace.
The Ancient Nabateans were a nomadic people that are believfed by some to be the descendants of the Edomites, (the children of Esau). Indeed, the Bible says in Ezekiel that the Edomites dwelt in the "Clifftops" and "Perched on their high places". A careful read of the 60th Psalm seems like it be referring to the flight of the Endtimes Church to Petra: "Who will lead me into the Strong City, Who will bring me into Edom, Wilt not Thou Lord God..."
Thank you !
