Voters need to realize that national security, as we know it in 2008, is an issue that could not possibly have been addressed by our founding fathers! I took my Obama bumper sticker off because he voted to not only let the Bush administration and the telecom companies off, but leave James Risen holding the bag for bringing awareness to the domestic spying. Nobody should have been let off the hook for blatant betrayal.

Hitler was only successful because he stripped civil liberties away. As this slowly happens to us, we'll then be unable to fight back against authoritarian corruption and greed. Compromise is inevitable, but that was betrayal.

The best part of obama is he gives these amazing empty answers. And everyone who voted on the patriot act had the option to read it but they never bothered. Bush was only doing what it took to try and catch terrorist, or channey in the act. What how do you define the legality of a terrorist act, when/how do you draw the line on national secerity? How far is to far to protect us?

I use to think that no matter how stupid Bush is, he was trying his best. I no longer think that. Prescott Bush (Pres Bush's grandad) was indited for Nazi money laundering and the bank that he was president of was seized. They were selling to the Nazi's long after the US entered the war. This is just the surface of what was really happening. We're only seeing the surface of what's happening now. Cheney and Bush are lock-stepped in this corruption together.

I agree PV. It was really hard for me to swallow after investigating more about Obama. He's made some really good moves by going forward with closing gitmo and such but I can't help but think in the back of my mind that's it just a method of calming many of us so they can keep they dirty little secrets covered and the citizens enslaved.

Obama lied. The FISA court only gets a report on what the program is but gets no info on who is being spied upon and what kind of information will be gathered. By granting immunity to the telecoms their is an admission that all of this was illegal AND we will never know how bad it got except that several top DOJ officials were ready to quit because it went beyond the pale, as far as Ashcroft was concerned.

Obama lost my vote.

Of course he had a choice. He had 3 options: 1) vote against the bill (and push for a better one) 2) abstain 3) vote for the bill. He chose the worst of the 3. To make matters worse, he told people he would vote against any bill that grants the telecos immunity. What he did was betrayal. Betrayal of his merit and betrayal of his supporters who believed he would protect people's right to privacy and due process. I used to believe when he spoke about change. Now I can no longer support him.
