i think the outer sheath of the usb plug is also connected to the ground of the circuit, and its a different metal to the internal pins so you could conceivably get a current across it.

one onion, probably not much current. even with the sports drink.

i would have liked to see a more exhaustive test though and to show what it would take to successfully charge.
