Magic Mountain is re-opening this as Superman: Escape From Krypton for their 2011 season. when they re-open it, they will have brand new, lighter trains and the ride is going to have a better hourly capacity. it's not getting torn down, just improved

it's 450 ft. tall and goes 100 mph which was record setting when it was built 12 years ago. Unless a ride can grow in height and become faster with time, every ride is gonna look crappy eventually

Remember being a really little kid when this ride first opened. It was on every coaster show and was THE SHIT. 0 - 100 mph in 7 seconds!? That was fucking crazy. Now looking at it its almost laughable. We can now go faster in half the time, and the "L" is soooo boring! While the launch is fun it cant be as intense as TTD or Kingda Ka.

But until 2000 this coaster was the cream of the crop. Pretty historical actually.

A 30 minute line at Magic Mountain isn't long at all, I primarily like this ride because it usually has the shortest line at the park. Most coasters don't last that long compared to the time it takes to traverse through the maze they call a line anyway.

OK, a few things:

2. The Tower of Terror has only 1 track, where this has 2 side by side.

3. This is in America at SFMM, whereas the TOT is at Dreamworld in Australia.

4. They were both made by the same company at around the same time, so they don't rip each other off. And besides, people shouldn't have to travel half way around the world to experience a fun thrill ride, which is why they build similar rides all over the world.

TTD while yes added completely new technology and is a different design isnt MUCH different from SM:TE. Same with KK, KK is much different from JUST the tower than TTD. KK has new technology, fairly new design, etc.

Actually, Kingda Ka uses all the same technology. Itamin was asked by SFGRadv to design something along the Top THrill Drasgter, but higher, and they wanted an extra hill or 2. SM:TE and TOT and all the other shuttles in the world, don't use technology at all like an Itamin accelerator. Thus the reason that acceleration is so slow with the shuttles.

o ok, yeah kk does have a few upgrades, the brake at the top for less rollbackls and everything. However, KK's downtime is still much worse then dragster, because the fact is most of dragsters problems have been resolved, KK still has new problems that keep poppin up.

Kingda ka's down time has been greatly reduced. I live in NJ and I am at GrAdv. often, and compared to the past seasons, its been pretty reliable. I hear dragster still has some large amount of downtime(eventhough it now has the upgraded technology/software). I also hear Dragster gets quite a few rollbacks a day/week, which I wish KK had more of. Lol. KK's worst problem was the accident early in its 1st couple of seasons, Dragster had a somewhat related accident with cable issues.
