Wow, what a memory blast. When I was around 5 or 6, I sat in front of a cheap record player we had and played this 45 over and over. I loved it and was embarrassed that someone would catch me playing it so much, just sitting in front of it watching the record spin. I couldn't remember the singer, only the title and the melody. These two versions aren't the guy I was hearing sing it, but this is the song!
This is a wonderfull musical and deserves to be more well known.Kaye ballard sings Humming which never fails to make me smile, and of course Love makes the world go round is fantastic. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for posting. I recall going to a circus (Shriner's I think) in which several acts were done while this played. Uplifting, positive song lyrics like this contributed to the (Not perfect) but overall highly civilized, gentle society we had in the 50's some of which persisted into the 60's. I was a part of the social & peace activism, which was never meant to destroy the positive parts of our nation, only extend them for All. LOVE DOES MAKE THE WORLD GO ROUND! Peace & Love, ALL.
What a beautiful song! I remember as a child, I had a Sleeping Beauty musical nightlight that played this song. I still think about that night light all the time. : (
as someone born in 1956 with a fairly cultivated family, this song, among others, was one of the staples of my childhood. such a pretty tune! thank you, robert merrill (and family). michele
I think my mother Helen was insane...she used to sing all these songs and then beat us...awaiting my father's return. With so many doctors and lawyers in the family why did they allow this camelot/insanity to proceed? Yo, man it was crazy...
@GSMovieMoments Maybe they did not make a movie because this play was based on the 1953 movie "Lili" with Leslie Caron in the title role? The puppet characters were very effective. Mel Ferrer was the puppet master. I really loved that movie as a child and its theme song, "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo" by Bronislau Kaper (who also wrote the haunting "Invitation").
I saw this on Broadway. I was 9 and became mesmerized by the Broadway stage. I remember having this album. Brings back a flood of memories. Beautiful voice.

@TheBobMerrill I wonder if Carnival could make a good movie if the characters were made live instead of puppets.
Jane Morgan's is one of the best non-hits in history.
