Sorry, I'm new at this. I have a windows 7 starter netbook and I tried downloading this. It didn't work, so I looked at the description and it said to right click on something. What do I right click on?
Thanx for the info... now i found the other way.. easy as ABC.. anybody who want to know or maybe need help, well, just contct/send msg to me..im using windows 7 starter too, and u know what, i can change the background and also my login screen.. im so damn happy! yeah, to give the instruction here it would be hard.. i will help you guys.. "if there is a will, there is A WAY, and i know the way.." bye2 windows starter...
Just take ownership of folder - \windows\web\wallpaper\windows\
The background image Windows 7 starter uses is img0.jpg. Put your own image in the folder renaming it as img0.jpg. Might need to change permissions of the file too.
@madpiekillme right-click windows\web\wallpaper\windows folder > properties > select 'Security' tab > click 'Advanced' button > select 'Owner' tab > click 'Edit' button > change the owner to yourself > apply and ok > once you done that you can edit full access for yourself
@lemler33 Windows 7 starter is designed for netbooks and older computers, which run on lower power in order not to exprience big slowdown. But honestly how much processing and RAM does it take loading a background?
im having the same problem others are having. is it possible to keep desktop icons on top -or- even better, is there a download somewhere that will give me a tray at the bottom? kinda like what mac has
hey i have a qestion ..i'm not very good at pc and stuff but i was wondering about the toolbar ...i have a windows 7 starter on a netbook and i don't have that, do you put that yourself or wath? pls give me a repsponse and tell me how can i have one of those pls
hey i was trying to download samurize but i wont let me because its win 7 starter of course but when i go to change to xp mode in the properties of the file the only thing that pops up is the tap label general!?!? so where is the file that i am supposed to use?
i've tried this config, and it was really helpful...but unfortunately, when i start my laptop again, the wallpaper disappear...is that mean i have to make it again and again everytime i open my laptop?..thanx..!!fyi,i've save it like u did in that video..
While doing this does work, it seems to slow down everything graphically and puts a load on the cpu if youre moving anything around. Moving the Task Manager around with an overlayed wallpaper, is alot slower than without it.
i did notice that it is not a actual background it overlaps the windows back ground and by that u cant clik on your desktops now i have to clik the windows key on my key board but still better than seen a lame back ground
nice vid man i was just wondering sings i am going to be downloading this program and using it will it allways be running as a program or can u sgut it down and keep ur background with out the program hope i dint confuse u
THANKS! That was great advice. I've been online all day downloading garbage download after garbage download with useless instructions. I love the way you shared and networked this. Microsoft should be shamed. Rich ass company, get it together Gates.
this was really helpful. I was just hoping it would keep all my icons for all my work and everything on top of the background like... well... a real background image would do. haha. but very helpful nonetheless.
As PortugalFreaks says, this only works on Windows 2003, XP etc.., NOT Windows Starter edition! Any ideas? It's maddening and petty that the wallpaper cannot be changed in Windows 7 Starter - what are MS playing at?
Does anyone have a tip on having the icons see through exactly?
I followed through lone and rahzels tips, but its only allowing the taskbar to show and none of the icons. I ran through the positions tab but nothing seemed. to work.
I got it working but as I was playing with the options I clicked "always on top" and now it's locked on my whole screen and I can't do anything else! I'm on different computer because I can't do anything on it. I've tried restarting through ctrl + alt + delete with no luck and even the task manager wont show up.
I followed the video and rahlzel's comments and it works like a charm...although I can't see my desktop icons, i usually have it clean anyway so it's not an issue for me. Did anyone figure out a solution for the covered icons?
har2526, strange... my right-mouse button works fine. Try "Normal windows behaviour" for the client too. That may work. Otherwise, just experiment with the options.
Great tips! but then my icons at the desktop blocked but my taskbar is not blocked by the background,i did set the position pin to desktop and locked position. Please help!
Ah! Rahlzel, You're correct. I forgot you had to run the application in XP mode. (I already had the app installed when I recorded the vid, so forgot about it!) Good catch.
Also, you can right-click and select "troubleshoot compatibility" to run the installer in XP SP2 mode.
I managed to get it working on WIndows 7 Starter, but you left out a few very important steps.
1. You must right-click the Samurize installer and go to "Properties" in order to run it in XPSP3 compatibility mode.
2. Do the same compatibility change to the executable.
3. After saving the config and selecting it from the system tray (3:22), make sure you also enable a nearby option: "Position > PIn to Desktop". This will make sure your new background doesn't cover the taskbar.
hey.. do u have issues with ur mouse?

@hangman320 how to change permission? it said i need a trustedinstaller permission to change it, wtf!
MrMADEINBORNEO 1 year ago
@MrMADEINBORNEO trustedinstaller is the defaulted owner of the folder. you need to take ownership.

thanks for the great tutorial~ it was really easy to understand~
although it didn't work for me... but i think it had to do with the model of my netbook (Toshiba NB305).
I've tried other background customization tools on my netbook, and none of them worked for me either.
I guess I'll have to stick to the ugly Windows logo background XD

if it comes up covering your desktop icons, yu have to drag it so you can access the icon yu right-clicked.
right click the icon then click on "Position"
then click on "Pin to Desktop"
yu should be able to see your icons.
hope it helps (:

I bought a netbook today and had quite a hard time trying to figure out a way to get a new background, and this worked just fine.
I also tell everyone to look out as you can only use png files :)
Thanks for the tips
BTW can you use this program and be able to see icons on the desktop?
The image his the icons in my case, but oh well that doesn't matter at all. I can always go to the start menu and find it myself!
