hey this is my opinion but joannie probably got a 70 because her jumps were high and clean, her spins were fast(she also had different variations on her spins too), she had a lot of transitional movements, and when all those GEO's add up its same as yuna kim. You guys just look at difficulty of the jumps, the jumps dont make the performance, yuna and joannie are equal in everything just not the difficulty
Canada needs to prepare better link for figure skating competition. The link of skate canada is always small and sounds are strange. Then, judges show too much partiality to canadian skaters!
@USAGymnast However, what IS more important than ice coverage, speed, flexibility, and edging are SPINS, since they are technically and specifically judged. Rochette's spins are relatively slow and they travel, not to mention, they aren't at all at the level of Czisny's.
@USAGymnast Ok, so I give it to you about the speed. Czisny isn't the fastest skater out there, nor is she the slowest... but honestly, I care least about speed, and it's not even a specific judged element. And we are talking about speed in a spin, than no one tops her. As far as ice coverage and smoothness goes... she clearly covers the ice, and she clearly is "very smooth in her transitions" as Peggy Flemming and Dick Button have said many times, not to mention many others. What is your beef?
I love Joannie and I think she's a brilliant skater, but if you look at Mirai Nagasu's performance and then watch Joannie's, i think that Mirai needs a bit more "growing" to do, and perhaps Joannie is better than her. But the score difference is way way way too big. I personally think Joannie was overscored..
I think the below comments are ridiculous... Rochette's jumps were flawless -- a jump is judged in three stages -- takeoff during/air position and landing and outflow -- that means how far you travel, control the landing, etc are all part of this. I have never been a huge fan but this was a great program.
Watching Czisny and Rochette here... I really don't think there was a 6.5 point difference. I think 70 points was too high, and they were probably inflated because she was in her home country. No one can honestly watch Czisny's performance here and think it was 6.5 points under this...
Her jumps are amazing, yes. But I firmly think that a score over 70.00 should be a response for a well-rounded program with amazing spins and beautiful spirals. Rochette's got the musical interpretation and speed but she's missing the rest. So sad that we're seeing this kind of judging just a few months before the Olympics. She shouldn't have gotten more that 65 being totally honest.
haha you guys are so funny. Just watch this and then Yuna's 2009 4cc Sp or 2009 World Sp. They recieved similar scores but seriously this "70.00" performance just pales in comparison. I know it's not Joannie's falut (it's the judges' and maybe Canada's)and I applaud her for hard work and everything but this is just ridiculous.

I'm going to predict that Joannie peaks at the Olympics and wins. When you break it all down, she's Yuna's equal, and I think she has better programs. Joannie spent many years to get where she is, as opposed to Mirai and Caroline who were instant stars, but with bad technique. She's head and shoulders above them, and the cautious Alissa. Excited to see what she does today.

I don't understand where you fault her spins.
If you watch her boot, it doesn't travel at all. That is how you get deductions.
Her spirals show flexibility - the only judging requirement.
I would like to see more innovative spins and spirals earn more points, but at this point they don't.
As for this programme - it is the short, jumps are what matter hre, and Joannie has beautiful jumping technique.

Joannie and Kim are getting special love from the judge.
Why ??????

cause they both have ties to Canada and the Olympics are going to be there and someone wants them to win.
