I like to see Adele do this song. Not only that, but do the same things Springfield did-which includes putting her hand and arm in the air (as if she's controlling the tune) as she sings 'just because of you boy'.
@woody7075--unfortunately for us men more then likely Dusty would walk in the room with a woman rather then a man as she preferred her own sex more then the opposite.
In my opinion the songwriting Duo of 'Gamble&Huff' is Greater than BURT Bacharach & Hal David / The proof is in the fact ' Gamble&Huff have been behind a greater diversity of singers BIGGEST HITS than any other Songwriters
Will somebody PLEASE!!! POST THE ORIGINAL VERSION OF THIS "Gamble&Huff" song / sang by Jerry Butler. IT REALLY PAINS ME WHEN SOMEONE TAKES A BEAUTIFUL SONG ( that brings back special memories to me ) and JUST MESS IT UP '
One of my favourites...... Love the whole album and its live feel.... One of the most underated songs and albums of all time....and yes Aretha did it later like Preacher Man....... And again NOT AS WELL... but who cares after all this time.... Dusty Lady Soul..... Dusty Empress of the Blues...Dusty Live in London.....Dusty in Memphis.... Dusty in Nashville..... Dusty in Heaven.........
LOOOOOOOVE when Dusty when she starts swinging to the music... (she starts around :40, then cuts loose at :53)
and as for her version of this great song- it was a big hit, but this had SMASH written all over it. I'll never understand why it stalled outside the Top 10...
sorry, but Isaac Hayes version is ALL OVER A-N-Y version of this awesome song. It's on his Black Moses album, for those who don't know, and about 8 minutes long. Even Dusty can't fuck with this, for real.
Now dont get me wrong...Dusty Springfield could sing her ass off and I do like her version of this R&B classic. Let's also remember the fact that Aretha turned down "Son of a Preacher Man' and didn't decide to record until AFTER Dusty had a hit with it. Dusty was just another prime example of a great singer who never got her due credit in her prime until she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Love this lady's songs. For me, it's "The Look of Love". Grab that special someone, turn down the lights, pour some wine, light some candles, put on that song and look out! LOL
You know, I always thought Dusty was around 6' tall.........it was only a day or so ago that I found she was 5'3"...
She truly projected something larger than life......Such a beautiful, charming, endearing girl with such a sad story.....I swear she's becoming more popular than ever........
There's no way this talent will be kept tucked away for long. Just like many other artists, the height of her popularity may come long after her death.
You said it all woody7075! Me too! Still in love w/ this lady and her music! Play her CD's almost daily! In the car and @ home. My theme song "You Don't have To Say You love Me"
To me Dusty is at her most gorgeous, beautiful, sexiest best in this clip and in this stunning white outfit. The hair, the beautiful glossy tanned skin, the eyes and the classy, classy face and prescence. You'd be proud to walk in to any room in the world with Dusty on your arm looking like she does here!!! Sighhh!
I have a recording on cassette of Dusty and Jerry Butler doing this song as a duet which I recorded off the radio NPR Rhythm & Blues syndicated program over 15 years ago! It is wonderful. Wish I could post it!
The Hairdo....the stylish pantsuit......the way she moves to the beat of this brilliant song. Watching this clip, now I remember why she was known as the Queen of the Mods.
We are fortunate to be able to witness GREATNESS on YouTube.
Another clip from this same appearance (where she sings "The Look of Love") is labeled "Music Scene '69." I am assuming that is the name of the show but I do not know for sure. Hope this helps!
@KylesBeguiles928 I loved the late Dusty Springfield, she was truly a sexy soulful white sister who could really sing and I loved to watch her serve as host. The only other Caucasion sister that would hold in Dusty's class is the lovely Chris Clark especially during her brief years with Motown

Not many "white singers" touch my heart- DUSTY DOES!
She's my Doris Day of soul sounds. What a talent to have left us too soon.

A wonderful tune sung with all the style and passion that she was famous for.

So great to see Dusty out of those hideous nightie type dresses she wore earlier on. she looks less of a drag Queen here but sorely missed x.
