I think Tarja is an amazing singer, but it doesn't really fit the music (in my opinion, I realise many disagree and that's fine) but I think Marco's singing and bass playing are a joke. The other three seem to be doing fine, but nothing to really write home about. I do play and write music, I have a higher dipolma in bass performance from the Academy of Contemporary Music in England.

@DarkLordNagash I watch videos of Marco singing because many people praise him for his voice, saying he is an amazing singer. I'm trying to find at least one live video where he sounds good. Here, he is struggling to stay in tune and the tone of his voice is just horrible. I genuinly can't understand why people say he's good. As for his bass playing, he simply strums it like a guitar. I'd guess that he was originally a guitar player and only took up bass when he was asked to join as a bassist.
@overture13 his voice fits very well in actual Nightwish songs, it's very powerful and has a certain melody to it... listen to their cover of "High Hopes" and generally speaking to their "End Of An Era" live, you might find it better than the rest. And his picking looks lousy but I don't see what the problem is with that, everyone has his own picking technique. And yes he played guitar as well
@DarkLordNagash I've heard that cover also. Again, I'm sad to say I'm not impressed. He sounds quite good in the studio on the Northern Kings albums, but even then, with a lot of studio trickery he sounds good, but nothing special. I guess there's not a major problem with his picking, but it is very sloppy and doesn't exactly sound great, however, I guess people don't listen to Nightwish to hear amazing bass playing..so as you say, it's not a problem.
@overture13 My qualification is a few years guitar, bass, singing, composing, writing and playing in a band, I've been listening to metal for several years now and I believe that without any "criteria" from any academy or whatever, this cover sounds drunk as hell but it's not bad. I don't want to piss you off but I think that we both come from different worlds and that I don't like the folks who gave you the diploma, it's nothing against you in personal or your opinions. I just disagree.

Although going to a contempory music school seems to make you discredit me, I'm not sure how studying music theory, learning to read music, ear training and practicing good technique and just learning from more advanced musicians from yourself can make your opinion less valid. I know it doesn't necessarily mean I'm a better player than you or anyone else, but I don't think it makes me less valid
@overture13 well to me it's like "art schools" where you learn painting, they tell you which colours to use, what looks like what, how to interpret this and that, and they don't let you build up your own opinion, interpretation and tastes. I say it's the same for these academic music schools because I know many people who went there and when they came out they told me i "had to" interpret music differently because "I was wrong", that's why I dislike such people. I hope you're none of them

Come on, even if Marco's voice isn't even nearly raw enough to sound like Blackie Lawless, that's not the purpose at all ! It's a Nightwish interpretation of a WASP song, and the instrumental arrangement is just great (keyboards instead of the lead guitar ^^). Enjoy it or shove off and listen to something else. I mean, I also prefer the original, but still, this is also very good.

@DarkLordNagash Sorry, i missed that question. No, I don't particularly like Nightwish. I think Tarja is an amazing singer, but it doesn't really fit the music (in my opinion, I realise many disagree and that's fine) but I think Marco's singing and bass playing are a joke. The other three seem to be doing fine, but nothing to really write home about. I do play and write music, I have a higher dipolma in bass performance from the Academy of Contemporary Music in England.

Besides, to me having a diploma shows you share the views on music of these academic people who have a perfect lack of originality and who interpret music as if still was classical from the past centuries etc. Nothing against that, but as I said, IMO it discredits your opinion.

@DarkLordNagash I watch videos of Marco singing because many people praise him for his voice, saying he is an amazing singer. I'm trying to find at least one live video where he sounds good. Here, he is struggling to stay in tune and the tone of his voice is just horrible. I genuinly can't understand why people say he's good. As for his bass playing, he simply strums it like a guitar. I'd guess that he was originally a guitar player and only took up bass when he was asked to join as a bassist.

@overture13 his voice fits very well in actual Nightwish songs, it's very powerful and has a certain melody to it... listen to their cover of "High Hopes" and generally speaking to their "End Of An Era" live, you might find it better than the rest. And his picking looks lousy but I don't see what the problem is with that, everyone has his own picking technique. And yes he played guitar as well

@DarkLordNagash I've heard that cover also. Again, I'm sad to say I'm not impressed. He sounds quite good in the studio on the Northern Kings albums, but even then, with a lot of studio trickery he sounds good, but nothing special. I guess there's not a major problem with his picking, but it is very sloppy and doesn't exactly sound great, however, I guess people don't listen to Nightwish to hear amazing bass playing..so as you say, it's not a problem.

@overture13 My qualification is a few years guitar, bass, singing, composing, writing and playing in a band, I've been listening to metal for several years now and I believe that without any "criteria" from any academy or whatever, this cover sounds drunk as hell but it's not bad. I don't want to piss you off but I think that we both come from different worlds and that I don't like the folks who gave you the diploma, it's nothing against you in personal or your opinions. I just disagree.

@DarkLordNagash I've been playing for a little over 4 years now, two of which spent at music college. Although going to a contempory music school seems to make you discredit me, I'm not sure how studying music theory, learning to read music, ear training and practicing good technique and just learning from more advanced musicians from yourself can make your opinion less valid. I know it doesn't necessarily mean I'm a better player than you or anyone else, but I don't think it makes me less valid

@overture13 well to me it's like "art schools" where you learn painting, they tell you which colours to use, what looks like what, how to interpret this and that, and they don't let you build up your own opinion, interpretation and tastes. I say it's the same for these academic music schools because I know many people who went there and when they came out they told me i "had to" interpret music differently because "I was wrong", that's why I dislike such people. I hope you're none of them

You always get pretentious idiots, self taught or educated. I'm not telling you your opinion is wrong, you're welcome to enjoy this cover if you like. I am just shocked that so many people praise him as a vocalist, when (to me) he sounds so disgustingly bad. Bad singing & sloppy bass playing don't make a respectable muscian to me.
