The one in Texas has a structural height one hundred feet taller than this Superman. However, the height that riders are dropped from are fairly close...217 ft for the one in St. Louis, and 245 ft for the one in Texas. Besides, this ride sits on top a hill, so it feels like you're 400 ft high.
It is the funnest ride in SFSTL. It's so fast and fun. Just stretch your arms and legs and it feels like you're flying! (P.S. if you think this is not fun, you also think everything else is boring)

Actually, the one in Texas is only taller, not faster. This ride reaches a descent speed of 62 mph, whereas the fastest speed on Superman in Texas is on obtained during ascent, at 50 mph. Also, while Superman in Texas is much taller, the actual height that passengers reach varies by only fifteen feet (230 ft vs 245 ft). And don't forget that this ride sits atop a 150 ft high hill in the Ozark mountains of Missouri.
I know you miss this ride, but I think it's doing better over here in St. Louis. Though the theming isn't as good as it was before, the view is far more impressive now. You can see for miles over the rolling hills of Missouri. It's great...especially at sunset.
No, I live in Illinois...just about 30 miles from Six Flags St. Louis. I have ridden it when it was in Houston and in St. Louis, so I can actually compare the views. In my opinion, the view of serene tree-filled hills is far superior to the view of downtown Houston and the Astrodome. Plus the fact that it's on a hill really makes it feel so much higher (in Houston it was on flat ground).
The brakes cannot "go out". They do not run off of electricity. Superman uses magnetic brakes to stop the cars. They will always work, unless Earth's magnetic poles suddenly shift.
P.S. The ladders at the top are not in case of an emergency. They are for inspection only. Having riders evacuate with those ladders would possibly be the most dangerous thing ever.

As the cars were beginning their trip up, one of the lift cables snapped (on another car). The cable swung sideways, around the tower, and sliced her legs off. She was kicking her legs, and they happened to be stuck out as the cable came by.

So, since there has never been a major incident on THIS ride, I was asking sixflagsrideop what happened to THIS ride-not the one at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom. You didn't know that because, once again, you had no idea that there was more than one Superman Tower of Power. (fyi, I'm not trying to be rude).

we have one called the Scream but it doesn't do just one drop. It keeps lifting you back up then dropping you about half way..and just different lengths each time.
I think this superman is nothing compared to the Scream D:
Actually, this ride is more intense than Scream. Even though it's just one drop, the free fall is much more intense because it is a "true" free fall. Scream uses compressed air to blast you down. You would think that the blast downwards would make it intense, but in reality, it just lasts for half a second before slowing down. This ride continues accelerating down at the acceleration of gravity for over 3 seconds. But Scream is more fun because it launches you up and down.
To me, it looks better now. When it was Dungeon Drop at Astroworld, the colors were bland, but the theming was great. I like the new colors. Also, it's new location in St. Louis is great, because it sits on a huge hill in the park overlooking the Ozark Mountains. They also drop the cars at different times now, instead of all at once (like on Dungeon Drop).
ook this is waay different than the superman at six flags over texas, ours takes you up really fast thenn drops youu then takes uppp againn fast alll the way to the top thenn drops youu all the way then takes you up fast half wayy and drop and then drop then you go a quarter of the wayys and then drops!
How can you not "trust the way it drops'"? It is stopped by magnetic brakes, which are the safest brakes in the world. By the laws of magnetism, they will continue to work for an estimated 1.2 million years. You don't need to worry about it smashing into the ground.
Or, are you worried about the cables (like what happened to the girl that lost her feet)? Don't worry, that was a freak accident. Out of MILLIONS of rides, it only happened ONCE.
man i rode a ride similar to this.. i was 12 and we kept going up it looked like nothing then when we were on top i saw the whole world lol i was like in my head "IMA FUCKING DIE MAN WDF WHY DID I GET ON THIS BS" and i was like "WTF WHY DID IT PAUSE IS IT BROKEN WTF!" then out of nowhere with my mouth open it pushes me down so fast that my spit came out :D
And it feels much higher than it looks, because you're on a massive hill.
You should see my reaction on the drop EVERY time I ride this. I'm like a cat. My instincts tell me that I'm falling off a building. This causes me to try and get into a safe landing position. My legs pump up and down really fast. It's hilarious.
Actually, on Drop Tower (Kings Island in Ohio), the drop height and free fall distance are only slightly larger than this (even though the height is much higher, most of it is an antenna).
This one is better (IMO) because it drops the cars at different times and you sit on a 150 ft hill in the Ozark mountains, which really makes you seem high as hell.
It depends. I've ridden this about 15 times, and the first two times, I screamed like a girl and the other times it sucked the air out of me (I couldn't scream).

Really? It's actually one of the taller versions of the Intamin Giant Drop models, standing 230 ft tall. Most of them are below 180 ft and only a handful are over 300 ft (with the world's tallest being 390 ft).
Don't start a fight about this ride. It's bigger than you think.
I rode it yesterday (4-26-09) also. I rode twice in a row, in cars 1 and 6. You must have ridden it before 4 pm, because cars 4 and 5 didn't run in the afternoon because the ride broke down for a while.
The view is amazing, especially from cars 3 and 6. Car 3 gives stunning views of the rolling hills in the Eureka area and car 6 gives a bird's eye view of the park. I just love that drop!
St. Louis was supposed to have thunderstorms in the evening, but they never came.
I guess he is lying. I've already been 4 times this year, and car 4 has always been parked at the top. Car 4 was usually not working last year, but I did get one ride on it.

I like how it's not in a bland location like Giant Drop at Six Flags Great America. It's on a hill at the back of the park, making it seem higher than you really are. The view of the Ozark mountains is quite relaxing when you're 20 stories up waiting for the drop.
I've never been to Six Flags St. Louis, but I've ridden this exact ride more times than I can count... it was relocated from my hometown of Houston, where it was my favorite ride at Astroworld before they closed the park in '05.

You should really some to St. Louis to ride it sometime. The view is much more impressive now. The ride is located at the highest point in the park, so it seems much higher. Cars 3 and 4 provide stunning views of the forest and the small Ozark mountains-very scenic and relaxing. Cars 5 and 6 provide a bird's-eye view of the park.
try getting launched up in that ride with so much G force that when you reach the top ur butt leaves ur seat and ur shoulders hit the safety device holding u in. u feel like ur going to go through the roof but gravity takes over instantanious and u go straight back down sooo freakin fast. The ride im refering to is "The Superman" at Six Flags Over Texas check it out

This ride just drops you. It only reaches 62 mph, and when you look at the ride from directly below it, the optical illusion makes it seem slower than it really is. Standing below anything tall, or looking at something at an angle, makes things looks slower and shorter than normal.

yeah, I went to six flags and was expecting it to be closed when I went august 12th. I talked to an employee and all he said was it was technical difficulties, I don't really know much else.

when the ride started one of the cables snapped under stress.the cable came around with such force that it cut a girls pair of legs right off.god bless that girl

That was Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags KENTUCKY KINGDOM. This is the one at Six Flags ST. LOUIS. Two different parks. They just happen to be similar and have the same name.

Here at Fiesta texas,
we have one called the Scream but it doesn't do just one drop. It keeps lifting you back up then dropping you about half way..and just different lengths each time.
I think this superman is nothing compared to the Scream D:

Actually, this ride is more intense than Scream. Even though it's just one drop, the free fall is much more intense because it is a "true" free fall. Scream uses compressed air to blast you down. You would think that the blast downwards would make it intense, but in reality, it just lasts for half a second before slowing down. This ride continues accelerating down at the acceleration of gravity for over 3 seconds. But Scream is more fun because it launches you up and down.

To me, it looks better now. When it was Dungeon Drop at Astroworld, the colors were bland, but the theming was great. I like the new colors. Also, it's new location in St. Louis is great, because it sits on a huge hill in the park overlooking the Ozark Mountains. They also drop the cars at different times now, instead of all at once (like on Dungeon Drop).

ook this is waay different than the superman at six flags over texas, ours takes you up really fast thenn drops youu then takes uppp againn fast alll the way to the top thenn drops youu all the way then takes you up fast half wayy and drop and then drop then you go a quarter of the wayys and then drops!

How can you not "trust the way it drops'"? It is stopped by magnetic brakes, which are the safest brakes in the world. By the laws of magnetism, they will continue to work for an estimated 1.2 million years. You don't need to worry about it smashing into the ground.
Or, are you worried about the cables (like what happened to the girl that lost her feet)? Don't worry, that was a freak accident. Out of MILLIONS of rides, it only happened ONCE.

man i rode a ride similar to this.. i was 12 and we kept going up it looked like nothing then when we were on top i saw the whole world lol i was like in my head "IMA FUCKING DIE MAN WDF WHY DID I GET ON THIS BS" and i was like "WTF WHY DID IT PAUSE IS IT BROKEN WTF!" then out of nowhere with my mouth open it pushes me down so fast that my spit came out :D

You should see my reaction on the drop EVERY time I ride this. I'm like a cat. My instincts tell me that I'm falling off a building. This causes me to try and get into a safe landing position. My legs pump up and down really fast. It's hilarious.

went to cincinatti OH on a field trip. the drop tower there is so much better and taller.

Actually, on Drop Tower (Kings Island in Ohio), the drop height and free fall distance are only slightly larger than this (even though the height is much higher, most of it is an antenna).
This one is better (IMO) because it drops the cars at different times and you sit on a 150 ft hill in the Ozark mountains, which really makes you seem high as hell.

it's over really fast. When you're up at the top you're really just looking at all the stuff you can see from up there and then all the sudden are down again. it's not bad. :)

Really? It's actually one of the taller versions of the Intamin Giant Drop models, standing 230 ft tall. Most of them are below 180 ft and only a handful are over 300 ft (with the world's tallest being 390 ft).
Don't start a fight about this ride. It's bigger than you think.

I rode it yesterday (4-26-09) also. I rode twice in a row, in cars 1 and 6. You must have ridden it before 4 pm, because cars 4 and 5 didn't run in the afternoon because the ride broke down for a while.
The view is amazing, especially from cars 3 and 6. Car 3 gives stunning views of the rolling hills in the Eureka area and car 6 gives a bird's eye view of the park. I just love that drop!
St. Louis was supposed to have thunderstorms in the evening, but they never came.

I like how it's not in a bland location like Giant Drop at Six Flags Great America. It's on a hill at the back of the park, making it seem higher than you really are. The view of the Ozark mountains is quite relaxing when you're 20 stories up waiting for the drop.

I've never been to Six Flags St. Louis, but I've ridden this exact ride more times than I can count... it was relocated from my hometown of Houston, where it was my favorite ride at Astroworld before they closed the park in '05.
We miss you, Dungeon Drop!!! :)

You should really some to St. Louis to ride it sometime. The view is much more impressive now. The ride is located at the highest point in the park, so it seems much higher. Cars 3 and 4 provide stunning views of the forest and the small Ozark mountains-very scenic and relaxing. Cars 5 and 6 provide a bird's-eye view of the park.

try getting launched up in that ride with so much G force that when you reach the top ur butt leaves ur seat and ur shoulders hit the safety device holding u in. u feel like ur going to go through the roof but gravity takes over instantanious and u go straight back down sooo freakin fast. The ride im refering to is "The Superman" at Six Flags Over Texas check it out

ak47badpuppy: His camera wasn't slow. You are confusing this with another ride, that looks NOTHING like this.
This ride just drops you. It only reaches 62 mph, and when you look at the ride from directly below it, the optical illusion makes it seem slower than it really is. Standing below anything tall, or looking at something at an angle, makes things looks slower and shorter than normal.
