  • The way he says "young girls are fainting" is so funny.. makes me think of just how great he really is... to think of himself so high

  • I so wish I was his girlfriend back then...

  • im doing a project on uk punk rock movement just now. Any of you guys know what made them different than other punk rock acts?

  • I am a 12 year old girl and whenever I sing this.My mom asks what are you singing? I say its gen x she has no idea what I am talking about. The next day I found a album of theirs under the drivers seat in the car.I go to put it in the cd player my mom sees me and says great now you know my secret. COOLEST MOM EVER.

  • Yea, here he looks like Bowie. And thats great :D

  • Ha Ha Sid Bowie

  • sounds nice crackling on a record player, i find

  • I've got this somewhere downstairs in purple vinyl I think .

  • billy is a big star trek fan and his parents come from wolverhampton, he is a great stage performer and just gets better with age.Billy rules F U R F

  • i never thought they were punk just a great pop rock band

  • @alanhug Cheap rip off of 'Rebel Rebel' by Bowie ; still enjoyable enough in it's own way

  • he was friends with sid he was a giant elvis fan

  • @rdp3537 I have yet to look for all this on iTunes. I only had tapes of Gen X and early Billy Idol w/Steve Stevens.

  • Good music shitty place to play lol.

  • Siiiiiiiigh....

  • More glam than punk rock...

  • Saw Billy get smacked in the chops by a Grebo at the Kings Hall in Derby in 1978. Credit to him though, he got up and carried on with the Gig.

( no one tackled the biker as he was about 20 stone).

  • Bought this on grey puke vinyl when released. Dunno why. Idol was a right tosser.

  • I like him more as a punk than whatever the hell happened to him after the 70's

  • Thing about this tremendous song that makes it cooler is that dolls are pills. Billy is un-fucking touchable.

If Elvis was around, he would’ve been proud.

  • last of Gen X and the beginning of BILLY IDOL! not saying it is a good thing but you can see Billy being more Billy Idol than early Gen X.

  • ugh what a gorgeous man.

  • GORGEOUS OMG.

  • ...In the Va-a-alley-of-the-Do-o-o-olls

    White faces starin'

    As into the Valley-of-the-Do-o-olls

    Go the gang of 4!...

  • skanky girls skanky..... love it

  • Great tune! In the early days of Generation X, Billy used to drive to gigs from his posh Surrey "Stockbroker Belt" abode in a brand new Triumph Stag. Very punk!

  • My favorite Generation X song.

  • Happy birthday Billy

  • Billy what can I say... thanks for posting this ....

  • fucking amazing footage holy shit!!!!!

look at what a hottie billy is!!!

  • It's "galante 4" by the way not "gang of 4"

  • Mark Laff and Derwood are gods.

  • off there 2nd LP, this song is great!

  • I love the background vocals. Ok ill stop commenting now,...

  • I love him

  • whos the guy on guitar behind the drummer at 0:50?

  • Lip Sync fail. But really good song XD

  • I LOVE YOU BILLY IDOL!

  • TOTP Has those weirdo mics that are just sticks and they look fake. Great song :)

  • tarshorceceliah, you idiot.

You might be interested to know that an original GenX member STARTED the F-ing DAMNED.

Christ, the bullshit we have to put up with fucking kids these days. Wanker. Do your homework, the internet makes it stupidly easy you nitwit.

  • already an icon

  • WHOA, at the begining of this, the drummer looked from back here like Keith Moon! He also had the same wild kind of movement Moon had-- but his death would have been almost exactly at the time this was made, and by the end of the video, you could tell it wasn't him. Oh well.

  • seems like that was the name of a movie, i think..humm sounds familiar.

  • I guess you could say Steve Stevens made a bit of a difference ...

  • @CusterFlux Not really. Billy would of rocked either way. It was a done deal since his teenage years. Dude, he is fucking R-O-C-K-I-N-G at 18-19, as seen here. May be you think this is lame, but I remind you of what the scene was in '79, and you'll easily see, yes, HE IS F-U-C-K-I-N-G R-O-C-K-I-N-G.

  • hehe I bet Billy would like to forget this.....

  • @digitalwatcher Actually, I really bet people would like to forget you said that. This song takes any song of today to school and back, digital boy.

  • @Newsensation1978 Ok son you are so cool not!

  • @digitalwatcher ..."not??????" When did we go back to junior high man?????? I know you got your kids giving you thumbs up and whatnot, but please, when talking about Billy Idol, know what you are talking about. Yes, Steve Stevens did make a difference, but Billy was all ready made. Really, you could say Billy made Steve better. I remind you, on a few albums of Billy, Steve wasn't even there.

  • @digitalwatcher this album was produced by Ian Hunter don't you know anything? its fucking Ian Hunter!! the album's amazing

  • tarshorceceliah, shut up would you? Don't like, don't comment. Simple as that.

  • half sid??which half?christ, ps i stumbled onto this purely by accident, wont be making that mistake again.what the hell was it doing on page with the damned?????so wrong

  • @tarshorceceliah wow your an asshole haha... use the internet there's wikipedia you know? and don't talk about the damned you don't know shit.

  • Is the Drummer Keith Moon? lol

  • Did Mick Ronson produce this???

  • Ian Hunter

  • Remember this well, have it on vinyl. I always rated Gen X, but strangely they were never that huge in the UK, Billy only became big after he left them.

  • OMG I haven't seen this video sinceit came out in 1979/80? He looks so thug like. LOL. I can't beleive i thought he was cute. But i still like this song. This video in case you don't know if from The Top of The Pops

  • HA! I have heard this song.Didnt know Billy Idol sang it.Not as good as his later stuff tho''.

  • IN the tal der pupschen..

  • is it live sound?

  • omg from punk to this to rockstar billyelvis love ya man!

  • what a movie to sing about

  • luv it memories

  • The melody of the 2 guitars perplexes me.

  • he's half sid half bowie

  • DAMN! That's spot on!

  • @hospitalcolours i dont think so i think he is just himself

  • @hospitalcolours totally true. Sid And Bowie are awesomeXD But no one compares to BILLY IDOL!!

  • @hospitalcolours Billy copied sid smile...

  • @hospitalcolours The best blend there is, I reckon...

  • @hospitalcolours not forgetting the sneers of young RnR punk named Elvis P.

  • his eyes look crazy, yet it looks like SUCCESS. sploosh.

  • I would say this not the best work generation X did I like their First Album and their Last Album. I do own this Album though.

  • i just gave them 100th rating.

    5 STAR!!!

  • wow sounds like the "who"...killer what a trip check out the drummer don't get me wrong it's timeless great substitute...do dee do

  • Billy Idol, the only early english punk rocker to have the brains to make his punk music a bit more radio friendly and commercial. From a street punk to a Hollywood star, a great achievement. Well done.

  • You mean he sold out.

  • He sure did sell out. Then has the balls years later to call out the fake punk bands of today! What a hypocrite

  • Whover gave me a thumbs down for calling him "Yummy Young Tender Billy Meat" is a royal ass crack. He's hot fool!

  • great band, still stand the test of time

  • Oh, I remember my mom telling me he was in this band! I didn't realize that they were from the 70's! :D Awesome song by the way!!!!

  • If you're interested I could TRY to dig out some shots I took of the band in about 78 at Totnes Town Hall. The night B4 they were bottled off stage at Exeter Routes club. I was at both gigs and a big fan at the time.

  • Sweet

  • That album is clearly underrated. I think it's marvellous.

  • Nice lipsyncing....... not

  • "Nice lipsyncing.......not"

Are you seriously still using the "not" comeback in this day and age?

I'd make fun of you if i didn't find you so sad.

  • Go piss up a rope.... fuckstick

  • "go piss up a rope"?

    sad...

  • :(... Now I'M sad :(...

  • How about "Go piss a water fall on ya".

  • Young Tender Billy Meat! YUM! He's so hot!

  • hahahahahahhaha thats funny as shit!!!

  • rebel rebel

  • I never knew this existed. Although, I have always liked this man.

    LYON

  • Come on people WILLIAM was university material but them there lyrics would have got him a D for don't you know shite lyrics when you hear them..I mean listen to Elvis Costello same time 79 but what lyrics , i mean i don;t even like Elvis Costello.Billy still holds a torch for Mr Rotten much to Lydons amusement.

  • tidy, this is class

  • Lip synching. Too bad. Oh well, at least it exists.

  • they have to lip synch on Top of The Pops.

  • Can it really be 30 YEARS ago.......?

  • This is an amazing album - only one weak song(Kenny Silvers), but Rob Andrews is a great guitar player.

  • Song after song rockettes up rocking

    One hundred watts scream man

    My ears are bleedin'

    Hot bodies charged

    blonde locks a' givin'

    And all around

    young girls are fainting

THESE ARE CHEESEY LYRICS EVEN BY 1979 STANDARDS

  • Yes, and lyrics are so much less cheesy these days... let us all give thanks for the rise of songwriting by commitee, which has brought us the genius works of, hmmm, well, pretty much any jackass popstar on the charts nowadays.

  • oh so what if the lyrics are a little wierd or "cheesy" . marilyn mansons music sucks and his stuff is wierd shit but look how many fans that dude has. just sit back and listen to the music. enjoy it there arent many good bands like this these days

  • You said it!...This was such a golden era of music because the creativity. A lot of artists were experimenting with new ideas, some worked, others didn't.

  • Into the valley of the dolls...

  • The most forgotten song... Thx for posting this gem !

  • lol, Billy's totally confusing Tony James towards the end, there.

  • in this video billy looks like david from the lost boys

  • billy was so much cuter before that crazy hair of his

  • ...there's a before??

  • This album rocks!!!

  • Massive! Solid! From a fantastic album.

  • Thats right. The Valley of the Dolls is a superb album . Good for chillin out with a mild spliff & a good book in the evening

  • Well, I' m not a complacent hippie, so I don' t smoke pot.

  • OOhh get you Mr Health freak. Who says Im a hippy? Has it ever occured to you that I might like to unwind after a days work . I get up at 4am to start at 7am do my work , hope I dont get hassle from a hoddie when I go home.

  • People who smoke dope are being deceived and they deceive others as well.

I' m totally against pot, alcohol or any type of drug that's being imposed on people by the system.

The ultimate rebellion is to stay away from the stuff.

  • I've just read yr msg whilst drinking a cup of tea. Tea is that a drug? Look mate everyone has their vices & the system imposed mine as much as Valley of the Dolls was forced on me by the BBC when I heard it as a kid on Top of the Pops in June 1979. I'm talking about music here not yr bum boy Cliff Richard agenda . Lars stick it up yr??????

  • What a clever boy!

  • What a fucking rotter. Well thats it for tonight. The other rocker Eamon will be on tomorrow.

  • ROFL!

    Excellent!

    Bull's eye, m8.

  • Ok lets leave it at that. Look after yourself all the best, stay listening to hard music

  • Ca plane pour moi (That´s fine by me).

Likewise, mate. Have a nice one.

    All the best from Sweden.

  • Makes me proud to be British !

  • David Bowie, eat your heart out! Billy looks a little like the Thin White Duke here.

  • That is one sleezy song. Can't get much better!

  • OMG........PAUL PHOENIX from TEKKEN the video game

  • Jeeeeeez the lyrics suck....the sooner he headed across the water the better Steve Stevens saved the day.

  • My favorite genx song!!

  • Great vid , he already has that great stage presence .

  • Definitely one of the most uderrated and ignored songs. It's one of my faves.

  • One of the greatest bands of all time.

  • Best band ever!

  • Yeahhh - he is really cute- so young....

  • I wonder if GANG OF 4 took their name fromt his song?

  • Nope. Brush up on your knowledge of China's history.
