I'm quite impartial to 'that of the over indulgent crap known as music from the Romantic era', but I had to seriously LOL at that XD On a more serious note though, Bartok is undeniably good, but no need to demean other brilliant, albeit more *dramatic* composers :)
@adamdcFaN Yeah he can't write piano music. He only wrote one of the best piano sonatas in the repertoire, an sonata for two pianos and percussion and 3 monumental piano sonatas.
People should like....stop talking about 20th century music when the only aesthetic they can wrap their hard heads around, is that of the over indulgent crap known as music from the Romantic era.
and can't forget about his piano concertos and MIKROKOSMOS; 6 amazing books of etudes great for beginners to professionals, and great for analyzing his wide variety of styles.
Bartok is defintiey my favorite serious classical composer from the 20th century. His music doesnt reveal itself easily---its unpredictable and its complex---but thats why I think it will become more and more well known as time goes by---
Richter is, as usual, a great and brillant pianist... but Bartok's music, in my opinion, needs more fantasy and immagination. However, thanks for posting it, Richter is a great pianist!
thats unique....these pieces are so rarely to hear in concert. Richter did a good job here...
Bartok was a strange composer but will get more and more known with the time outside of hungaria not only with his 3rd concerto.... But an approach to his works isn t that easy but is worth as there is much beauty in it
Yes, I can play this piece without practice it before. I play it with the ass.

I like his Etudes and Sonata way better. But this has some good moments too... ~3:30... Very lyrical for him...

Bartoks music consists of harsh melodies and different rhythms. No genius here
