You probably have been confused after hearing that he took liberties with his story and merged people and places into one for the sake of a cracking narrative. His book is not an autobiography - but a novel, based on his life; as he has said.
He is very clear about this in interviews. He is also clear that all the actual experiences happened - they just may not have occurred with only this or that real person, or happened in the sequence of events as depicted. ... etc......
i totally agree with angelina jolie. think they could have done better than johnny depp though. maybe he'll be amazing though, who knows. just don't see him as a rugged australian escaped convict though.
@daiu1ro I respectfully disagree. While they are both amazing actors, you can't overlook the original aesthetic of the character. I would not find Johnny Depp believable in the role of a large, blonde, Australian ex-con.

@blackhoumor I agree entirely! He doesn't fit his physicality in the slightest. I don't think he'd be capable of the violence in the book, seeing as Depp's not exactly the most intimidating character around.
@ncbandit70 Hmm, but what about all the violence that's in the book? Can you really picture Depp beating up a group of massively muscled Nigerians like in the book? He's not nearly the right physicality for the role of Lin. Maybe Modena would be a better role for him? That I could see.
Anyone take a gander at translating the Nigerian during the Kinshasa story? "saroo saroo saroo" "ombigwe ombigwe" or any of it?

Helena is decent although i would have prefered rachael weisz (constant gardener)

Johnny Depp paid $1.5mil for the movie rights - he can cast himself if he chooses...and I think he'll do a fine job of it.
