@criscobar Looks like he have a lineart layer, painted the brown under it (or set the lineartlayer to multiply) and paints the grey on a new layer over the lineart layer
Does anyone know how he's changing colors so quickly and efficiently (yes, I know this is a sped up video)? I'm trying to see if he's just using the color picker (the tool that absorbs whatever color you currently have the cursor over), but I can't tell if he's using it.
@z4gnut I'm sure he used eyedropper tool from time to time. He picked colors he painted earlier, or the colors resulted from mixing. By controlling pen pressure carefully, the color mixing could be very natural. The artist picked colors directly from color picker palette (or whatever it's called, I'm using a Chinese version of photoshop) too, as shown in the vid.
@smokeriie I'm guessing maybe it's because he painted from dark to light. Redish brown brings nice contrast to the general cool skin tone. The light source looks pretty neutral in color too, so he didn't have to pay much attention to the warmness of shadow.

@Orbzon that is halariasssss I agree. I am studying to be a concept artist for a company lime ubisoft or bungie and I agree this guy should have a job like that.
It's a pleasure to look how you work... and thanks for the masking tutorial!!!, I learned one more useful thing. One question: How do you blend colors like that? Giving the character the volume without making it lose definition...
I still don't understand how people can paint using that technique... I always start in greyscale and only color it after adding the details in black-and-white.
Awesome style, though, I'll try to create something similar one day too - the result you get with this technique is pretty unique and I like it a lot!
I love the description... "Doodling"... My doodles have people questioning if I'm smarter than a fifth grader... Dumb pun, but just saying... you're pretty talented...
That's incredible dude, great job. You should work as an art designer for a video game or animation company. And this is a great song, all you haters can suck it and go back to listening to your mainstream Hannah Montana garbage.
photoshop has some features for the pen like pressure, so i guess photoshop was designed for wacom or it just added the features after wacom came on market
@fullfist yes, you can always use another color, but one-vox/brogmeyer use brown as the base in most of his speed paint vid. I believe that's what DigestDemons meant by asking "why brown?"
umm how are your brush properties set up? like is the brush set on minimum diameter or maximum? Not sure what its called, but i know its somewhere where the brush presets are. You know what im talking about right?
sorry another question... as far as layering ur colors how do you go about organizing them? do you put all brown back color on 1 n then do the highlights on another? or do you go by parts like teeth in one layer eyes on another?
Photoshop is all well and good, but personally I prefer Painter for paintings and I use Photoshop for effects and changing the resolution and cropping and such.
i would really like to know what you use (the mouse, a tablet, ect.) because im trying and following all of ur steps with limited success because im using a mouse

the brush is set on a lower opacity. Let's say the opacity's set at 50%. You chose a color, but when you paint a stroke, only half of the color will go through. If you go over that same stroke, where they overlap, you have the original color you've chosen.
