  • Nihon Gambatte!

  • a week had passed no words from his friends, I could see posts of his friends comforting each other, then.... he informed me they received a call from his friends and everyone's alive! they were stranded in Sendai and all the communication had been cut. The train that you were in wasn't recovered?? all of you in that train are all lucky!!

  • @rajalovesjill the train I was in was safe. I heard of reports that 4 trains total went off the tracks and one which was near the coast was not recovered. I was very lucky and very thankful. My prayers are with the wonderful people of Japan.

  • I've experienced magnitude 7 here in our country that brought buildings down, felt like it was taking forever for the ground to stop shaking, how much more this 9 with tsunami. good you were able to get a taxi by that time, my friend's group of friends were there, he didnt here from them,he told me that they (the family of his friends and him) are already starting to accept that they are included to those who were washed out by the tsunami.

  • Would have been very scared.

    I was in Utsunomiya, too.

    I was very scared.

In Japanese, was a big earthquake that has not been experienced until now.

  • As it nears the 1 year mark, I still remember how the earthquake was the scariest moment of my life.

  • Trying to decide which is worse, this shit or the Tornados I went through in April last year...... Both are pretty damn bad.... And both are the worst in recorded history....

  • You really have to admire the Japanese for their orderliness in situations like this, and their building codes (provided you overlook the fact that they don't insulate their houses)

  • I will never forget that day as long as I live. I was working at Kamata, Tokyo. Right in the middle of an English lesson I was teaching the quake hit.

  • @freedomwv I will never forget that day too. I was shopping with my wife at a supermarket at Ueno, I thought the ground was gonna tear apart cause I could see ground waving in front of me...

  • sounded like someone got sick during that quake

  • Sounded like seth rogan! :)

  • Just imagine that one dude takin a dump right as the earthquake struck...

  • you know ironically, stopped in a bullet train at the station was probably the safest place for you I would think.

  • @lilkittychan 100% agreed. The JR lost 4 trains off the tracks and one that was taken out by the tsunami that was not recovered according to their website.

  • @lilkittychan Uh. Not really. If the ground under the train collapsed, it could end up being more dangerous than normal.

  • @Kylemccormick1 the likeliness of that happening is very very slim though especially stopped at a train station :/

  • @lilkittychan yeah its safe there

  • where were you then when the tsunami struck?

  • @tattooedsean777 starting traveling by taxi towards Tokyo. It took over 14hours to make it there and a $680 bill. lol. I would have paid $6K for the ride!

  • MANSAKAGA

  • crazy... at first it's like, "oh here's an earthquake"... and then about a minute later - "just kidding, THIS is an earthquake!"

  • i'd love to live in japan

  • Wow, let's move to Japan.

  • I was like, "Shit! When is it gonna stop!?"

  • In the train , it must be moving a lot . :O

  • thats some cool footage though.

  • So very real portaral

  • that is scary

  • Was the shaking felt everywhere in Japan?

  • I experienced a 6.5-magnitude quake in Mexico City few days ago and well, it was pretty intense, but this is insane...

  • damn, i screamed like a little bitch when we had a 4.0 in MD, i would have shit myself if i went through that. lol

  • Thanks for sharing this video. We had a 7.2 Earthquake in Southern California last year, but it was nothing like a 9.0 !

  • i am glad my country isn't that murdering! no tornados earth quakes or tsunamis! But we have strong Rain but doesn't kill! you know........ water.....Doesn't Kill!

  • Best video I've seen so far. EPIC! My greatest respects to those that lost their lives.

  • omg.

  • 無事でよかったですね。

  • Did the earthquake feel signifiantly different from the bumps you get while riding on a train in this country (USA)?

  • @StevenShields29 I don't ride trains often so I can't really compare. I sure hope not though!

  • @StevenShields29 Most of the train lines in Japan are really new and modern (bullet trains, etc.) so I don't think so. During the earthquake though, the shaking was much much more intense then the shaking on a train in NYC or Chicago. You couldn't even stand up, and they had to shut down all the trains in the North of Japan for a few days.

  • @StevenShields29 hell fucking yes

  • @StevenShields29

It's like riding a dirtbike in on uneaven terrain at farily high speeds or driving a car fast down a very bumpy road. But then you have the swaying sideways motion. kinda like standing un a four wheeled carriage that someone keeps kicking and pushing. hard to explain but something like that

  • Amazing country with amazing calmness and engineering. My country Turkey needs to learn a lot from them...

  • I live in Okayama we had today earthquake Strong 3,bt maybe 20second,but scared.I can imagine if a strong like this come :s

  • Damn, that was violent

  • Most quakes I've been in were less than a minute total. This one didn't even really get going to full intensity until about 1 minute. Crazy....

  • utsunomiya is in...... ibaraki prefecture? or fukushima? or was it saitama =_= forgot lol oh wait its tochigi LOL

  • GODZILLA!!

  • hoooooly cow that tohoku-earthquake was a big ass one

  • OMG!!!

  • Rocken and rollin there

  • Wow. This was amazing. So glad you're alright!

  • これは本当怖いよね。私は宇都宮駅の近くに住んでますが死ぬかと思いました。

    非常放送は英語でもするべきです。

    あなたが無事でなによりです。

  • glad you got out safely

  • Holy shit! The noise!

  • I guess this is recorded on the Utsunomiya station.

I am interested in this video.

There is no uploaded video recording the raw footage of the view from the bullet train.

    This is noble.

And I appreciate your help from all over the world.

We would like to rebuild Japan.

    Thank you so much.

  • Just my luck here in the Bay Area. I live less than 2 miles from the Hayward Fault (Hayward, CA) and work/school is right next to the San Andreas fault (San Bruno, CA). Either one is bound to crack, tho Hayward Fault has been really active lately.

  • I live 5 Minutes from the San Andreas fault line in Southern California, and HATE earthquakes.... I would have S**T my pants..... Good job on the steady camera.

  • WOW. at the :58 point you can see the reflection of the train you guys were on and how bad it was bouncing. Amazing video. One of the few I have seen when the quake actually started and not during. Who'd of thought you'd being catching one of the 5 biggest quakes to every hit at that very moment!

  • I just left Shirakawa, northern Japan. From Japaness that I have spoken with, their average earthquake is 10 to 20 seconds long. As you can see, the first hit was more than two minutes long. I have not heard of any news that it was 6 minutes in lenght.

  • Can anyone translate what they are saying over the intercoms?

  • @thabboy Sure I can. " Everyone. Please run for you freakin' lives. Everyone. Please run for your freakin' lives." ETC ETC. BTW. I'm not fluent in Japanese ;)

  • OMG!

  • wow...it started out and went for a while before the full force kicked in, then it seemed to go forever... kudos for keeping a cool head, and getting this great video to share..

  • What do you do in Japan?

What kind of camera is that?

  • @SuperTechieJ I was on a trip for work. one week in Japan.

  • @pso3725

    Gotcha.

    Talk about good (bad?) timing!

I would have gone completely insane sitting on that train for 18 hours. I honestly think if nobody would have stopped me I would have started walking down the tunnel on my own.

  • Man, that gives me chills. Just went on and on and so violent!!! My family and I went thru 7.1 in Christchurch sept 2010. 2 km from epicenter. We still getting aftershocks... A year of hell basically. glad you ok. thanx. Anna.

  • Tohoku will wait for 1000 yearas for another big one but Kanto,Tokai and kinki stand by for the Big one too......

  • That station is Shin-Shirakawa on the Tohoku Shinkansen

  • Solid video. Very unique perspective. I think this reflects how strong this earthquake was. Even being somewhere as safe as a train away from buildings, there was still some dangers right outside.

Good job. I wish Japan a speedy recovery.

  • WOW!

  • This is, to my opinion one of the scariest video's besides the 'earthquake - Mori tower from 52nd floor' video.... the completely out of this world sound that such a thing like this produces... Even listening this on my headphones with their volume upped just doesn't do it justice...

  • I got very lucky on the timing of taking the video! Things could have been much worse.

  • @pso3725 Lucky to take this amazing video! One massive quake like this one in this area come once or twice in a 1000 years!!I,m living near this sataion.

  • @pso3725 And it still scares the shit out of me: especially the 'He Bob... this is crazy' at 1:09 sends ice-cold chills down my spine... it really 'displays' how in awe you are about what's happening, and how scared you are, while at the same time not realising (ofcourse) how incredibly strong this earthquake exactly was.

The fact that even the japanese guy in the background is almost gasping for breath provides goosebumps all over...

  • GREAT VIDEO. Good timing and a very capable videographer = superb vid.

    Thanks!

  • WOW> YOUR VIDEO very clear, does some one crying at that time?

  • In videos of this earthquake, the Japanese people usually aren't saying many words (except "sugoi", which means "strong"); instead, they say "eeehhhhh", or "oooohhhh", or "oi oi oi oi", or things like that.

True to form, since this video was shot by an American, he says "Holy shit!" Which is pretty much what every American says while experiencing something awe-inspiring, or scary, or unbelievable.

  • holy shit is right! This coming from an LA native... I know the sounds all too well..

  • @zerocool310 I am from Los Angeles, California too. We ain't never ever had one like that there...at least not for over a hundred years.. now I know where I do not want to be: In a 9.0 earthquake!

  • thanks for sharing

  • 日本人でも死ぬほど恐かったのに、外国から来た方は、さぞかし恐かったでしょう。

    今後の貴重な資料になります。

  • 地元や・・・

  • Custom reconciles us to everything.

  • how long do does earthquake usually lasts ? it looks so scary... and yes im serious

  • @stepxunit In Japan, quake useually lasts a few (about 3 or 10) seconds.

  • @stepxunit dontknow what deershiit is talking about, an earthquake last about 1 and 4 minutes

  • ive been through one as well. It just feels un human

  • Although not known by many people, in Germany there had been earthquakes too...but this is really scary! I overslept the last "bigger" earthquake in 1992 near Roermond in the Netherlands....it was only a 5.9 earthquake...

May the Japanese people never have to experience such an earthquake once more! And may all the victims of the quake and the following tsunami rest in peace... My prayers are with all of them!

  • Don't worry, that was part of your train ride! :D lol

    im kidding, that was intense.

  • I also experienced one earthquake that was a 5.4 and it is and was one of the most scariest things someone can experience. God Bless Japan!

  • I overslept one earthquake, but 2002 I experinced a 4.5 and I still found it very scary, but something like this... may you be blessed.

  • Dude how did that feel hope ur OK!!

  • Holy Yikes!

  • That's one experience you'll never forget. Was this your first earthquake?

  • Amazing shots, hope you're well
