I can only speak for myself. 1. The vampire books seem to be trendy romances. 2. If not trendy romance they are creepy erotica. 3. The whole "goth" thing. 4. Vampires as sex objects. 5. All the vampire mythology of sunlight, crosses, fangs, etc.
I do enjoy Charlie Huston's vampire noir novels. The main character is ruthless and violent and is fighting against similar people. Huston takes a realistic situation and injects vampire characters who are diseased - not "undead".
Looks like we have pretty similar lists, although when I set out to list all the things I wouldn't read i kept thinking that someday I might read one of those things, so that i can do better readers advisory. Although I'm pretty sure I'll never read a book by a political pundit or shock jock. I have read a LK Hamilton book - two, actually - and they were SMUTTY. Wowzers.
Instead of critizing, write a book. Maybe someone will buy it or maybe they won't.
