  • @OtherTwin Ass-kicking charttopper by the very talented Al Matthews!

    Thanks for the upload, Rainbow!

  • I can remember buying this some years ago :)

    A great song!!

  • @MrJelkoury yep, al was a big star in britain a tthe time. he was brotans first black dj and he brought some great soul funk to britain. ten years later, he started bit part acting in the 80's and was in superman 3 and then he auditioned and got hte part in Aliens. What a funkier groovier time though

  • @MrJelkoury it was ten years before he did aliens , a funkier groovier more stoned time.

  • all hes missing is his fat cigar

  • An excellent song and vocal from Al spoiled only by the terminally dreadful TOTP orchestra backing him. Backing vocals weren't too hot neither. The TOTP orchestra just couldn't 'do' Motown/Philly Soul/Disco in the 70s

  • @giftednumber10 I forgot how awful they were, you're right.

  • excellent track al matthews on you go!!!!

  • Ths man is a legend, lives near me here on the costa blanca in spain, war hero in vietnam before his recording and movie work, look for him in superman 3 also "get this man a helmet, Oh it's you. You don't need a helmet" and 007 tomorrow never dies, the skydive sergent, "remember to unclip yo chute before you hit that water" also he was in The Fifth Element. He played one of the military guys. What a dude, I'm gonna go have a drink with him tomorrow. I'm very honored to be a friend of his.

  • @nickjamesedgington That's brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

  • @nickjamesedgington

Have a drink for me, he's an old friend of my dad's, I met him once in his kitchen at 17 (though he lived in the house my mum lived in when I was born). Legend indeed! (played Benny Green's father in Grange Hill too :) and a few remember him from Coast to Coast an old Lenny Henry drama.

Tell him Matthew says hello (son of Roger).

  • Now THAT will help a fella rescue some juicy colonists' daughters from their virginity!

  • DRAKE, VASQUEZ, Hold your fire goddmanit!!!

  • Alright, you heard the man and you know the drill! ASSHOLES AND ELBOWS!

  • Great memories i never get tired of listening to this song :)

  • Al did a dance show called Discovatin' from November 1978 to August 1980 but was axed when R1's broadcasting hours were cut back.

  • stow that shit Matthews! LOL

  • Wow I'd love him to sing to me!

  • Great stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • Al Matthews was also, I think, the first black DJ on BBC Radio 1, a few years after this.
