ai matthews great talent good bloke also song written and produced by my old mate pierre tubbs a great uk soul producer thanks for this post love and peace j vincent edwards
@MrJelkoury yep, al was a big star in britain a tthe time. he was brotans first black dj and he brought some great soul funk to britain. ten years later, he started bit part acting in the 80's and was in superman 3 and then he auditioned and got hte part in Aliens. What a funkier groovier time though
An excellent song and vocal from Al spoiled only by the terminally dreadful TOTP orchestra backing him. Backing vocals weren't too hot neither. The TOTP orchestra just couldn't 'do' Motown/Philly Soul/Disco in the 70s
Ths man is a legend, lives near me here on the costa blanca in spain, war hero in vietnam before his recording and movie work, look for him in superman 3 also "get this man a helmet, Oh it's you. You don't need a helmet" and 007 tomorrow never dies, the skydive sergent, "remember to unclip yo chute before you hit that water" also he was in The Fifth Element. He played one of the military guys. What a dude, I'm gonna go have a drink with him tomorrow. I'm very honored to be a friend of his.
Have a drink for me, he's an old friend of my dad's, I met him once in his kitchen at 17 (though he lived in the house my mum lived in when I was born). Legend indeed! (played Benny Green's father in Grange Hill too :) and a few remember him from Coast to Coast an old Lenny Henry drama.

Al Matthews was also, I think, the first black DJ on BBC Radio 1, a few years after this.
