  • what a great posting. always liked this song.

  • agreed! thank god we have all sorts of digital media now so we can get it anyway

  • thanks for uploading these ....Ive been a Neil fan for 25 yrs and (for whatever reason) havent listened to him much past couple years..now im listening again and wondering WTF ive been ldoin these past 2 yrs...

  • Clearly Neil Young is one of the best songwriters of modern times.

  • my VERY FAVORITE song by him

  • hi does anyone know the name of the group that covered this song a couple years after neil young relesed it. it was an acapella version and the group was from england

  • Matthews Southern Comfort !! It`s the best cover !!

  • Hi yes nice song and the cd is pending from release, hey by the way can you be so kind to check my video out of this song? I play it on guitar tough.

    Thanks

  • Honestly...this is a pretty subpar version of Journey through the Past. The versions on Massey Hall and especially the version from the BBC recordings are much better. Neil was drinking a lot on this harvest tour, so really wasn't at the peak, peak of his game, but his creativity was certainly peaking...ha. Love this album for it's in the moment type of feeling. If you know enough about Neil Young than you know what he was feeling during this period...

  • Smoke117 Yeah that is so right. Long live Massey Hall.

  • @smoke117 - He wasn't drinking on this tour so much as being doped up on pain killers; he'd slipped a disk in his back and the record company still made him go on the road. A 60's vintage Les Paul is not a light guitar !

  • @smeghead1851 It's not terribly important accuracy, but since any decent record company would have heard of "key man" or liability or "lost earnings" insurance, I find it hard to belive they would force an artist to go on the road when they could recover from lost income through a policy claim. It is probably more than likely that Young and HIS management feared Young falling out of the race for buying records if he did not himself tour. Just a thought, pleeze no crazy reaction.

  • This song and the entire movie are released on the latest Archives boxed set. I think discs can be ordered individually rather than buying the entire set.

  • best music too drink too....when your alone

  • so true

  • i would agree but thats sound sad

  • @LifetimeProductionss thats what im doing now

  • there were a few hdcd test pressings of this a while back...he recorded it direct to disk or acetate so no actual master tape exists.

  • I thought this album wasn't released on CD?? Is that not a CD in the video

  • My record is a bit 'scratchy' now. C'mon Shakey, put this cool album on CD

  • American stars n bars has been on cd for years!!!

  • Wow. I Have Been Listening To This On Vinyl For The Last 36 Years. When Did They Issue This On CD? Hopefully They Will Issue American Stars In Bars Soon.

  • Not issued on CD yet, get yourself an Imic and start

your vinyl/tapes/mindisc's to your computer, it's the source!

  • @slackerno1975 he actually does this song on the CD live at Massey Hall 1971

  • @DrHeathenScum Actually, there were test pressings on CD of Time Fades Away for a potential release in 1995. Naturally, Neil decided not to release it. If you look for it, there are CD quality bootlegs out there of Time Fades Away.

  • @DrHeathenScum thank god for napster, youtube, and digital technology.

i was born in '72, never had an album, tape, or cd of this. but thanks to electronic media i consider on the beach, tonight's the night, and journey through the past to be 3 of my favorite albums of all time even though 2 of those albums have never been released to my generation.

god bless neil young, god bless digital technology. god bless y'all who lived it in the day and supported it.

  • @DrHeathenScum vinyl albums might be worth something now.... i'd give u $50 for a vinyl of journey through the past for sure!

  • brilliant

  • Neil's my favourite too. Perhaps other artists like the Beatles like McCartney were more polished in songwriting, but I believe his grittier lyric and music has done better and people can relate to Neil's creativity more than Paul. Both are great but I believe Neil's songs will make him Legendary like the Beatles by the Next Generation.

  • Love it :d)

After the goldrush sound a bit like it,but they are both great .

  • one of Neil Young's best albums...thanks

  • neil is coming to my city in 09 im stoked

  • Great song! I've seen Neil live in Berlin 08 and it was the greatest concert I've ever been on.

  • Neil Young Rocks! Canada Rocks!

  • neil young does anyway...

  • @ Hap

    Canada too ...
