Hmmm, that sheriff sounds awfully suspicious. He already KNEW that Loughner was unstable and out on the loose. So, instead of monitoring the guy, he LET Loughner roam freely AND attend Gifford's event with the KNOWLEDGE that he might cause harm. Sheriff Dupnik should have to answer why he did not post security at this event where a member of congress was speaking. Even after knowing of threats against congress who support border security. She was 60 minutes away from the border. Where was security for this event sheriff!!!??? People are dead because this man refuses to do his job.
Dupnik has his First Amendment rights, but that doesn't make it appropriate for him to use the podium of a law enforcement briefing as a stump to give us his two cents on whatever he wants. This is a serious abuse of the privileges of his office.
Perhaps he's just been at the job too long. I hope the sheriff has a very happy birthday tomorrow, and seeing as he'll be 74 I hope he then quietly retires so he can go onto Youtube and say whatever he wants in the capacity of a private citizen.
@rupertslander He has NO right to use his Office of Public Trust to do so. Just as if you are in the Armed Services you can be charged under UCMJ if you make a political statement in uniform. If he wants to come out and give his PERSONAL OPINION then he can not affix SHERIFF to it and he must NOT make it seem as though it is the opinion of the Office or Department.
